I'm designing an app that resets permissions on folders so I've made a treeview that uses GetDirectories to populate itself with all folders on a user's computer. The TreeView has the "checkboxes" property set to true so the idea is that users select all of the folders from this treeview that they want to reset permissions on and then click go.
So once they click go I need to loop through all nodes in the treeview and all subnodes etc and test to see if they are checked, then if they are I want to add each node to a list and then in the next routine I would loop through the list and reset the permissions.This is what I am doing at the moment but I keep finding that the objects added to my list are duplicated.For example if I select C:Test and C:TestTest2 in my treeview then I end up with my List looking like this:

I have this seperate class to fill a treeview from my database.There are over 33000 records and when this class runs, it takes almost 1 minute to finish.When i run this query from the server it takes for 5 seconds to retrieve all items.Is there a way to optimize this class?

I have been working with getting a recursive directory list function going and an attempt that I was considering doesn't seem to work.As it doesnt seem to return all folders.
Public aFolderList As New System.Collections.ArrayList()
Sub recurseDirs(ByVal sPath As String)
Dim dirInfo As DirectoryInfo = New DirectoryInfo(sPath)
Dim subDirs As DirectoryInfo

I wrote some code yesterday which shows a directory listing of an FTP server and if you click on a folder it will show that directory and their is a back button. But I dont think it is efficient and I can tell there will be a lot of errors.
Imports SylentUpload.Utilities.FTP
Public Class Form3
Private DirectoryHistory As String = "/"
Private DecryptedUsername As String
Private DecryptedPassword As String
[Code] .....
I have the below code that (not sure exactly where I found it) I am trying to add a recursive rename to all files in the directory. Currently, this code only does a folder at a time, however, I need it to go through all the folders and change all files.
Private Sub StripXfromBeginning(ByVal strip As Integer)
Dim JustFileName As String
Dim attributes As FileAttributes
GetFileArray()
For Each fileNameToProcess In FileList
[Code] .....
I'm hoping to improve the performance of the below as well as return the GUID of each user.
I've converted and modified the code found here for searching through groups recursively to get all the members and their details and adding them to a class collection. However I also need to capture the user's managers details so I'm calling the AD twice for each user. This doesn't seem efficient as many of the users will have the same manager. It would seem logical to get the distinct manager details from the collection class and call only these, then replace them wherever they occur in the collection.
I'd also like to be able to get the user's GUID, I've tried accessing it directly as a property of the collection, but it doesn't return anything.
I'm using vs2005 and .Net 2.0

I am using the following Recursive Directory Copy code, and am having a strange issue. I am using this to copy and directory and all subdirectories and files to removable media (flash drive). Everything copies perfectly fine except for 1 file. this occurs on the same file every time and sometimes the file copies successfully, but other times it does not.The problem file is a 7-zip archive with a .7z file extension.When it does not successfully copy, the file is only 8 bytes on the flash drive.[code]
View 5 RepliesI am trying to write code to save (in a text file) a list of folders/files that are contained in a specified folder. I want the list to be formatted to illustrate the folder tree structure by indenting sub-folders and there related files according to their relationship to the base folder.
I found and incorporated a recursive function for listing file & folders. This works fine for generating the list, but I am having difficulty with code to determine the sub-directory level relative to the base folder. the code that I have included below sort of works.......The problem seeme to be when going from a folder that is multiple levels up? from the base to one that is only one level from the base. Refer to my sample output. This should not be as difficult as I seemed to have made it, but recursion kinda blows my mind.
Code:
' The following function call is in a button handler
GetFilesFolders(txtBaseFolder.Text)
Public Sub GetFilesFolders(ByVal path As String)

I am currently using a recursive function to retrieve all the files/folders within a directory.Sometimes this takes a while. I am wondering if I am able to calculate the total number of files/folders within a directory before retrieving the filenames so that I can implement a progress bar?

I Created my own WebBrowser and now i have 2 questions:
1. Where can i set the directory that will be loaded in a TreeView
2. At Internet Explorer you can create a shortcut like Directory/iexplore.exe -google.nl
The browser goes to [URL] then, is there a way to do this in a VB.Net WebBrowser?
I have a TreeView in my form which suffers from slow build-time (i.e. it takes forever to load as it drills down into all subdirectories). It effectively loads a treeview control and then allows the user to select a node and populate a ListView control with the files within the given directory node. It populates based on the treeView1_NodeMouseClick event.how I can populate the treeview only down to 1 level only and still have my NodeMouseClick event work in its current form?Effectively I want it to populate down to 1 level on load and then down to 1 level upon clicking each node thereafter
Private Sub PopulateFolderTreeView()
Dim rootNode As TreeNode
Dim info As New DirectoryInfo("C:Documents and SettingsOur AccountMy Documents")[code].....
ok I have some code below as an example but I can`t seem to sort this one out, I want to pass the fullpath to the directory so that when I click the node it adds the subfolder to that node at runtime Here is my sub below I know why it`s happening but I don`t know how to fix it

I have a treeview, a button and a textbox. When you click button1 a folderbrowserdialog opens and after choosing the folder the path to the folder and anything in it is show in the textbox and with this
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Dim sDirs() As String

adapted from Major treeview/list view head ache I managed to make the treeview display the folder and the sub folders... but it isn't very hierarchial. Check attached pictures. Image1 shows how it is and image2 shows how I want it to be. Can anyone tell me how to get it to look like image 2?...Image2 was made in Windows Explorer. Image1 is a screenshot of the runing program that I am trying to make. I have been googling around but no luck so far. Practically I think what I shoul be asking is how to create child nodes of subfolders. The program is going to copy whatever the user checks in the treeview into another folder chosen by the user. I am using Visual Basic 2008 Express.
is there a tool that can display the directory tree on a form like a treeview?
View 3 RepliesI have something that is working for the most part, but I'm having some trouble with restricted-access folders.
The code I'm using is as follows:
Imports System.IO
Public Class frmMain
Private Sub frmMain_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
For Each drive In DriveInfo.GetDrives
[Code] .....
For testing purposes I replaced this section...
If drive.IsReady Then
PopulateTree(drive.ToString, TreeView1.Nodes(i))
End If
...with this...
If drive.toString = "L:"
PopulateTree(drive.ToString, TreeView1.Nodes(i))
End If
And it worked fine for that drive. The L: is a removable USB drive by the way.
However, with the original code I get debug errors on some folders because they are access-restricted. Is there any way to ignore those particular folders and show the rest?
I need to have tree view display a Folder View of a directory. I also Need to be able to create/rename folders in this view. Potentially even copy files to the newly created/renamed folders.
View 6 RepliesDoes anyone know if there is a way of populating a treeview from active directory so that it can do the following:Loads a list of servers --> Double Click the Server(Expand) --> Then i can select users --> then the department they are in --> then select the user so i can manage the user. i.e change there password[code]
View 1 RepliesThis is driving me crazzyy. I need a simple way to display all of the folders and subfolders of an FTP directory in a treeview, similar to the layout of Windows Explorer. Here's the code I have:

The code is total crap... causes my app to hang. Pretty sure infinite recursion is the cause.
I have a problems with my application..
1. collapse and expand treeview when i click plus sign (+) on treeview, treeview didn't expand subfolder but when i click image, treeview expand it.
2. showing path that i check on treeview when i check the treeview then i'm click the button, then return path that i check
This is my code..

View 1 RepliesUsing automapper i am mapping my ViewModel to my business object, however i want to map to an existing object instance and only map the properties on my view model. e.g.
ProductModel has id,name,code
ProductBusiness has id,name,code,dateadded
Function Add(ByVal model As ProducModel) As ActionResult
[code]....
i want to somehow pass in the existing business object instance and only map the 3 properties that are on both objects, dateadded should stay the same as it was in the database.
I have a form with a button that says "Open CSV".I want to be able to click that button. Then browse for a .CSV file, and after I select the file, populate a combobox with all of the headers of the .CSV.I would then be mapping these headers to fields in my database, then import the .CSV data into my database.
View 3 RepliesThe issue I'm currently having is mapping multiple GUI fields to object properties (i.e. Presentation layer to Business Logic Layer mapping). To be more specific, this is in VB.Net 2.0 WinForms. The nature of the solution requires us to have 4 columns which exhibit the same type of behavior on our GUI - each column consisting of 11 textboxes (we'll just use this small sample size, as the problem extends beyond 11 textboxes).
What I am currently doing is setting the tag of each textbox in all four columns to a value like so:
Textbox1.tag = "name"
Textbox2.tag = "type"
Textbox3.tag = "speed"
[Code]...
As you can see this can get very bad, rather quickly. Currently we're setting 43 some odd properties that can be mapped to -- thus that select statement is extremely long -- many of which are embedded in multiple methods to try and attempt DRY (I've watered down the code to essentially a conceptual implementation).
Question is: how can I refactor this? I've attempted using a dictionaries/hashes to a certain extent, but it either became overly complex, or just plain didn't make an implementation sense as it convoluted the problem even more.
I've followed the instructions found at the letter (albeit also adding the parameters to pass a username and password), but have had no success connecting to a network drive that requires authentication to access.
View 8 RepliesI have a very long list of points I would like to plot on any state in the US. I would prefer to plot each point with just a dot. All I have is an address that includes the street address, city and state and possibly the zip code. Ideally, I would like to place the resuts in a VB Picture box. I understand there is a Google interface but have found in my research the examples to be lacking exactly what I need.
