Turn Validation Off When Pressing X (Close)

Feb 25, 2012

I have a form with numerous textboxes and I use the validating event to validate these items.

If I want to close that form with the X button in the upper right corner of that window validation may not occur. For example a user is filling in data and he inputs something incorrect in a field, but he then quickly wants to close the window by pushing X in the upper right corner. At the moment validation goes off and show a dialogbox that incorrect data is enterred when I press X. How can I turn validation off when pressing X, so that the window closes immediately without validation?

Two Objects That Are Raising Some Events - Pressing A Button - Raise A Custom Event, Then Execute A Method And Then Close The Form

Mar 30, 2011

Problem that you may have when dealing with two objects that are raising some events. Here, to make it obvious, I am closing the form, but the problem can be experienced with any other 2 classes event. First, what is the problem !

Let suppose that by pressing a button, you want to raise a custom event, then execute a method and then close the form

In that case, you may use a code similar to this

Event BeepIt()

Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
RaiseEvent BeepIt()

Forms :: Skip Validation Of Active Control When Form's Close Button Is Clicked

Aug 12, 2009

Is there any way to skip a the validating event of the active control when the close button of the form is clicked. It is very annoying when user wants to close the form, but due to the validate event of the active control, it asks for the valid input. The user is forced to give valid input to close the form. I have searched a lot for this on net but no any proper solution could be found.

Turn Off And Turn On Background Music In Program

Feb 17, 2012

Right now I can add background music in my program by using this code

My.Computer.Audio.Play(My.Resources.Music_3, AudioPlayMode.Background)

I can also turn it off and change the music by using this code

My.Computer.Audio.Stop()
My.Computer.Audio.Play(My.Resources.Another_Music, AudioPlayMode.BackgroundLoop)

Is it possible to pause the music then if I resume the music it will just continue the flow? I mean if I pause the background music in 33 seconds and the music has 50 seconds and I resume it will just continue playing in 33,34,35 etc.. seconds?

RTF Close - Add A Close Button To Menu Strip That Will Just Close The Currently Opened File

Jan 16, 2009

I'm currently in the process of building a text editor type program, and have run into a brick wall. I haven't done VB in years, so I may just need a little reminder on some things. I have coded everything so far as far as opening files, saving them, changing fonts, colors, etc. However, I'm looking to add a Close button to my menu strip that will just close the currently opened file, and not the entire program, while also ask the user if he/she would like to save before closing the file, and then if they select yes, it will show the save dialog, and if not, it will go ahead and close the currently opened item.

Close() Puts Forms Into Crazy Open/Close Loop?

Mar 4, 2011

In a program I'm working on, I want a "Loading..." dialog to close when it can't log in to a site using the username and password provided by the user. Basically, I have the code set up right because the function it is supposed to carry out when that occurs does work, but for some reason it ends up in some really weird stuff happening. In the Loading form, I have it set to do "Form1.Show()" and then "Me.Close()", assuming it would simply show the login form and then close the Loading form. However, when this happens, the Loading form closes, and then for only an instant Form1 shows, and then the Loading form shows and Form1 closes. This happens forever until I stop the debugging, and I can't seem to figure out why. Am I using the wrong method? What exactly does Me.Close() do anyways? All I want to do is close the form and open another

Forms :: When Me.close() Doesn't Close Form

Mar 2, 2009

I have a situation where me.close() doesn't close the form. I have a form with a button with the code seen below. What happens when the button is clicked is the new form shows, but the original form(calling form) is still there. When I go into debug mode, I can see the me.close() execute, but nothing happens (calling form stays open). When I close the second form both forms close. If I comment out the call for the second form to open the first form closes without problem.

I think it means that the button is being pressed when I hit spacebar and enter because there is a blue border in the button. When I click a button the focus remains on the button. Pressing Alt Or Tab Caused Redraw?

May 30, 2011

I'm trying to do a little remake of the old game Achtung! Die Kurve, which is a snake-like game, but with multiple players trying to corner eachother until one remains. Don't play it, it's way to addictive, thats why I'm doing the remake now, I want to play it with up to 8 players instead of 6.

Now here's the problem: to draw the snake, I just use the GDI+ and make it draw a 3x3 rectangle on the form background. It works fine, until you resize or minimize/maximize or something like that, which causes a complete repaint of the form. This is not a problem... but when I press ALT or TAB, the form repaints.

And even stranger: it only happens the first time I hit each button. I can make it happen twice by hitting ALT and then TAB or vice versa, after that, nothing. I really don't get it, and its driving me crazy. I dont want a game with a splash screen saying 'First hit alt, then tab to start the game. Not at the same time that makes you leave the game.'
