I am using a not equal operator <> in my sql statement but it doesn't retrieve any record which is not equal to the selected date.

I am writing a library in VB.NET in which I have added, among others, a class originally written in C# but converted into VB.NET. I don't know much about C# so therefore I have used online C# to VB.NET-converters. Now I am stuck with some code which I believe the online-converter was not able to "translate" properly.
When running the code I get the following error:
System.IndexOutOfRangeException was unhandled
Message="IndexOutOfRangeException"

I was dabbling in pure Word VBA here and it occured to me that mixing the 'Set'-lessness of .NET with VBA might be confusing to programmers doing .NET Automation. Beyond that, the ambiguity example for Set here (near the bottom of the page) didn't seem to apply to the reason I had to correct the OPs code to include it. Further amusement came from reading some comments by one of the architects of VB here.

While answering this question I noticed that I got the following dialog while atempting to move the "cursor" while an exception was being handled:
Unable to set the next statement to this location. The attempt to unwind the callstack failed.
Unwinding is not possible in the following scenarios:
Debugging was started via Just-In-Time debugging.
An unwind is in progress
A System.StackOverflowException or System.Threading.ThreadAbortException exception has been thrown.
What exactly is an unwind?
i'm having troubles with a linq-to-sql statement and getting a left outer join to work. here is a sample of two tables i'm trying to join and my code that i've wrote.
Table1 Table2
f1 f2 f3 f4 fID f1 f2 f3 f4
val1 val2 val3 val4 1 val1 val2 val3 val4
[code]....
Instead I'm returning ALL values from table 1. I need to return all values from the left outer join where tbl2.fID is null.
I am tightening up my coding with the Option Strict set to ON. It has now produced alot of errors. An example of this is:
If AllocatedDGV.Rows(i).Cells("RoomNumber").Value = RoomsAvailableDGV.Rows(j).Cells("RoomName").Value Then
It gives me the following error: Option Strict On disallows operands of type Object for operator '='. Use the 'Is' operator to test for object identity.
I need to write an interface to get data to/from our data files.
We have a low level class that holds field values for each record read from the files.
This just holds two values, the value read from the file (DBValue) and the updated value that may need to be written back to the file (CurrentValue).
These values may be any of the standard value types (integer, date etc) or a string.
Either value (DBValue or CurrentValue) may be null if not defined.
I have written the class to manage this data which works fine while option strict is NOT on.
But we have an office policy of having option strict on all the time.
When I put option strict on, my object value comparisons fail with the error: "Option Strict On disallows operands of type Object for operator '='. Use the 'Is' operator to test for object identity."
Question, how should I change the following code to handle option strict on ...
This is all running on Visual Studio 2010

I have two debugging issues and I'm not sure what I did to make them occur:
1) I get an "Unable to set the next statement to this location" error when I try to set a new line.
2) Some of my objects don't return their member variable values. I get a "Cannot evaluate expression because we are stopped in a place where garbage collection is impossible, possibly because the code of the current method may be optimized" error when I hover over them or try to expand the object into tree mode.
These two problems must be related. I did a lot of searching about managed code and just-in time debugging but nothing I tried did the trick (even unmanaged code had these errors).
edit: After some more research it seems that #1 only occurs in one specific function (naturally, a very important and large one). This function is located in a module. Problem #2 occurs in all areas of my project.

I was convinced that If <expression> Then <statement [:statement]> Else [statements] in concrete form of If a = b Then SayHello() Else SayBye() End has sense. I read article on msdn on If-then-else, but I forgot why I was reading, so I concluded, that snippet above means this
If a = b Then HelloIsSaid : IsNotEnded Else ByeIsSaid : IsEnded But I have tested it now, and I see, that Else without statement is nothing more than decoration. It would be pretty good if it had function I described. Do you think its good request? Or do you know any circumstance where this Else has some function?

View 3 RepliesI'm writing something that will examine a function and rewrite that function in another language so basically if inside my function F1, i have this line of code var x=a.b(1) how do i break up the function body into symbols or "tokens"?I've searched around and thought that stuff in System.Reflection.MethodInfo.GetMethodBody would do the trick however that class doesn't seem to be able to have the capabilities to do what i want..dit 2:basically what I'm trying to do is to write a program in c#/vb and when i hit F5 a serializer function will (use reflection and) take the entire program (all the classes in that program) and serialize it into a single javascript file. of course javascript doesn't have the .net library so basically the C#/VB program will limit its use of classes to the .js library (which is a library written in c#/vb emulating the framework of javascript objects)
View 4 Replieshow to use them then before, but am still a little confused with a few aspects. Here goes:
1.) Lets say you have a method that checks for a certain condition(s) and if it fails Throws an exception. Does it have to be in a try/catch block? Meaning can the "Throw" statement exist in a block with no try/catch statement?
2.) Now lets say we have a method that has a try catch block and in it there is a throw statement. When the throw statement is executed does it first try to find an appropriate catch block in the same method or does it immediately go back to the calling method without looking at the catch statements in the current method where the exception was thrown?
3.) I created a custom exception class that inherits from ApplicationException. Next I created a method which has a catch block that catches this type of exception and does some action. Is the System(i.e CLR) smart enough to throw an exception of this type, or does it only throw exceptions from SystemException?
4.) I know that some people are more liberal in their use of exceptions and others use it more sparingly when truly strange stuff happen like the DB going down. I am writing code where I am getting some info back from the database, converting it and then storing it. Sometimes there might be data that comes back from the database and other times the field is empty and the Null value comes back. Therefore in the instances where Null comes back from the database I should not convert the value to anything, since I will get an error. What should I do in this situation? Should I let the CLR throw the exception when it goes to convert the Null value or should I check for the Null value and if it exists not convert?
5.) In general when I throw exceptions, is it sensible to only throw exceptions of the type Application Exception or are there instances where the programmer throws exceptions of the type SystemException?
