I have buttons generated through code (dynamically). I have to associate an event (the same) to them. I use AddHandler button.click, AddressOf mysub. The issue is that mysub gets a string (mysub(string)), but AddressOf doesn't accept a parameter inside the routine. How can I do this? Using also an alternative to AddressOf.
EDIT:

I am not the one who developed this tool, it's the previous programmer and they gave the project to me to update it however, when I try to run the application in my local computer I am getting this error: Argument not specified for parameter 'XLSFile' of 'Public Sub New(XMLFile As String, XLSFile As String)'.
The error points to the code below in bold letter:

I have a function that takes a String as a parameter And in it I have variables, so if I call it it's like
Dim Text As String = MyStringConverter("Hello Mr. " & Name & " " & Surname "!")
Is there a robust way to get a constructor with string parameter by reflection?I have no choice, but instantiate a class without knowing if the constructor belongs to it, a base class, or come intermediate class in the inheritance chain.

We have a legacy component that has been converted from VB6 to VB.Net.The VB component was called from an ASPX page using Request("param") to pass optional parameters to function calls. That means the value is null/nothing if the parameter is not present. The parameters were then added to an ADODB call of a store procedure using Parameters.Append.When used from VB6 missing, Request("param") values were coerced into empty strings when passed to the VB6 component. This meant that the ADODB call was satisfied (for required parameters). When the code was ported to VB.Net, the null Request("param") values are now passed as null values (VB nothing?) and Parameters.Append skips adding the value if it is nothing. This caused the stored procedure calls to break as a required param was missing.
If we change the component's function parameters to be optional and have paramname as string = "" defaults, will a null/nothing value be converted to an empty string, or is null/nothing treated differently to a parameter being simply missing?
I have a TreeView, which contains nodes. When a user clicks on a node, corresponding CrystalReport document should be created and displayed. For example, names of my nodes are: "PeriodReport1", "PeriodReport2", "PeriodReport3". My CrystalReport documents are named same: "PeriodReport1", "PeriodReport2", "PeriodReport3".How can I create and display right type of crystal reports document? I could do something like this:
select case reportName
case "PeriodReport1"

I have an update query and I'm receiving the error "Failed to convert parameter value from a String to a Int32."
I'm assuming this is because of a format issue... I'm using Text and Date formats. I've tried a few things but I'm not sure exactly what is causing this error.[code]...
i am trying to save data from unbound datagridview to sql database.Failed to convert parameter value from a String to a Int32. The following is my

View 1 RepliesI'd like to see what is about to be sent to the SQL Server from my SqlCommand before SQLCmd.ExecuteNonQuery() runs.
I'm trying to debug because I am receiving the following error:
System.FormatException: Failed to convert parameter value from a String to a Int32.
Normally, I would use SQL Server Profiler to view what is being sent to SQL Server, but my statement is not making it that far. Is there a way to determine what it is trying to convert? I am having problems determining which parameter is causing the error.
how to implement Nullable Parameter of type string in vb.net
Function:

I have traditionally coded empty strings like this "", but for a couple of years now, I have been using String.Empty.I also normally never use optional parameters, but I'm refactoring a solution that's tied into my ERP, and I don't want to break anything. One of the changes was to add a parameter to proc, which pushes a new parameter into the method from which it is called. I coded it like this:
Optional BackReferenceID As String = String.Empty
But I got a syntax error "Constant expression is required." I guess String.Empty is non-deterministic??? Anyway, it seems like a bug. The workaround is of course to use double quotes.
My application uses a third party API. This API uses a few functions that returns a value by reference as one of the function parameters. Problem is according to their documentation, the value I am trying to get out of this function is a string pointer.
So if that made no sense, heres an example of the syntax of the function as shown in their documentation:
long ExampleFunction(long ID, long PropNum, char* name, long MaxStringLength)
Input Parameters: ID, PropNum
Output Parameters: name, MaxStringLength
Thats pretty much all the info I've got. Obviously they are not using VB.Net, looks like C to me. I want to get the name output parameter and work with it, but once I get this value, I cant change anything. I know this is because its a pointer (reference type?) but I am still at a loss as to what to do.
What function in VB.NET simply takes a string parameter and runs a command? It would work just like the OK button in the Start -> Run dialog.[code]

I'm reading a text file that has ZPL language for sending strings to a Zebra printer. Each line has one parameter that is replaced with a value. However, the line posted below has multiple parameters that need to be replaced with values.
'''''Line from text file

I can replace one parameter with one value using string.replace, but how would I continue to process the rest of the string? Would I replace the first parameter then reevaluate the string again to find another parameter until no more parameters are found?

View 1 RepliesI've got this Function:
Public Class QueryStringUtil
Public Shared Function GetQueryStringValue(Of T As Structure)(ByVal queryStringVariable As String) As T
Dim queryStringObject As Nullable(Of T) = Nothing
If queryStringVariable <> Nothing Then
If HttpContext.Current.Request.QueryString(queryStringVariable) IsNot Nothing Then
queryStringObject = CTypeDynamic(Of T)(queryStringVariable)
End If
End If
Return queryStringObject
End Function
End Class
When I try to call it like this:
Dim intTest As Integer = QueryStringUtil.GetQueryStringValue(Of Integer)("stuff")
Dim stringTest As String = QueryStringUtil.GetQueryStringValue(Of String)("stuff")
Dim datetimeTest As DateTime = QueryStringUtil.GetQueryStringValue(Of DateTime)("stuff")
stringTest gives me the error:
'String' does not satisfy the 'Structure' constraint for type parameter 'T'.
I want our other developers to not worry about having to convert a class to a structure or some stuff like that when they call this function. I just want them to be able to put a standard type in the (Of T) and have it work. I don't mind writing in extra calculations to achieve that. The other problem is I also need the function to be able to return an actual null value, so I kind of need the queryStringObject as Nullable(Of T). Which means I have to have T as Structure otherwise it tells me that won't work. So looks like if I change what T is I need to run some calculation to delcare the var as nullable or not.
I tried overloading this method so that one returns T and one returns Nullable(Of T) like so:
Public Shared Function GetQueryStringValue(Of T As Class)(ByVal queryStringVariable As String) As T
Public Shared Function GetQueryStringValue(Of T As Structure)(ByVal queryStringVariable As String) As Nullable(Of T)
And naturally it's telling me it can't do that since they just differ by return types. Is there anyway to overload this? I really don't want to have two functions.
my users to view, send (via email), export SSRS reports. I have set up date parameter boxes with calendar drop down and they are able to send via email a URL link that would either display the report via ReportViewer or send a link that would let then view the report in Excel or PDF. This is working just fine. Now I just added another report with a procedure prompt using a text box. Report works fine when I run it in SSRS. If I enter say carotid stent, it displays all records that have the word "carotid stent" in the procedure name field. Now, when I added code using VS 2005 to accommodate this new parameter, here's my code -
ProcedureName = txtProcedureName.Text
msg.Body = "Please click on the URL link to view the report - " + Chr(13) + Chr(10) + "http://SERVERNAME/ReportServer/Pages/ReportViewer.aspx?%2fReports%2f" + ReportName +

Background Information:
Table: Customer
Fields: CustomerID, Title, Forename, surname, street, town, country, postal code, home phone, mobile phone, work phone, email.
All the data types in this are Strings with the exception of CustomerID.
Table: Country
Fields: CountryID, Country
CountryID = Integer, Country = String
There is a relationship between country.country and customer.country. I have made country a combo box with the contents of country inside it. This problem is resolved if I remove country as an input - but I need it in!
