Update MSAccess Schema With Ado.net Without Using Adodb?
May 10, 2010
Using the ado.net connect schema you can get the schema from a access database. I can use the alter statement to add a field, but I want to update the descrption and default properties. Can the be done without using adodb or adox (com objects)?
I have a piece of software I am converting to ADO.NET from ADODB. In ADODB I can update a recordset by simply.
Dim rs as ADODB.Recordset rs = query("select * from tblSomethere where something = something") rs("something").Value = something.Text rs.Update()
OR IF I WANTED TO ADD
Dim rs as ADODB.Recordset rs.AddNew() rs = query("select * from tblSomethere where something = something") rs("something").Value = something.Text rs.Update()
I am confused about to easily accomplish this. I know I can use an insert or update command but it would be much easier to do something like this. NOTE: The query just returns a filled RecordSet, it just executes the command and connection without me having to do it all over the place.
My regional settings are set to dd/mm/yyyy.I'm trying to update an access table from a datagridview.When datein in the Rate_Per_Period table is #31/10/2009# the update works perfect.When datein has a value of #1/11/2009# the update doesn't work.[code]
I'm trying to insert and update from a table in MSAccess I've declared everything: Connection, DataAdapter and Commands.I didn't use the Command Builder instead I supplied my own Queries.My problem is if I add three rows to my table all the three rows in my database have the same values from the first row. It seems like the parameters are stuck on the values from the first row. [code] I'm using a DataTable with my DataAdapter since I'm dealing with a single table.I'm filling the table with a parametrized query, and updating it with the same dataadapter.I'm adding rows to my datatable and manipulating the table through code. I know that my data is there and every row has it's own values, I can see them when I debug my program.
I need to edit and add records to a shared MSAccess .mdb file residing on a server (actually a shared Public folder during development), preferably through an OleDBAdapter or OleDBConnection. I've been able to connect and read data from the database, but receive an "Operation must use an updateable query." error when trying to invoke the OleDBAdapter.Update({datatable}) method. The Update method works fine if I move the database (and connection) to my local C: drive, but fails when moved to the shared folder. Eventually, the shared .mdb file will need to reside on a server after development.
I have something strange occuring. The following code works 100% when run in VB2008 Express.When compiled and run onthe same system, it generates the above message.The codebasically opens a Access DB and loops thru the db There is a progress bar (also tried a simplelabel) to display progress using AbsolutePosition.
dbInUse.Open("Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0; Data Source=C:SCDBv4DataSCDBData.mdb") rsInUse.Open(OpenCommandSQL, dbInUse, ADODB.CursorTypeEnum.adOpenKeyset, ADODB.LockTypeEnum.adLockOptimistic)
I want to compress an ms access database using vb.net. If the database is open this fails. How can I close the database, compress it, then reopen the database using vb.net code to accomplish this. I've already successfully written the code for compression, but I can't find anything on closing the database while leaving ms access open.
I have a php web service that I can call from a php client. I need to call this web service from a vb.net application. When I try to add a reference to this web service I get this error:The root element of a W3C XML Schema should be <schema>here is the top of my wsdl file:
<?xml version="1.0"?> <!-- partie 1 : Definitions --> <definitions name="raidService"
the schema is created using VS, but when I try creating the schema using XSD.exe, the validation works, am I missing something here, like namespace or anything?
I have an imported sql database using pa as the schema instead of the default dboThe problem is when I go into vs 2008 and create a gridview control, it won't recognize the from table object. I get "invalid object name" unless I go directly into the code and put the database name and schema name in front of it.
I have written a small XML validator, that takes in an XML file and an XML schema and validates the XML files against that schema. It works well, except for an XML file, with this content:
I would like to take data, from a dataset, and parse it out in XML. but, i would want the XML to be based on a particular XSD schema. The dataset is being filled from a database (wich i have no problems doing).
I'm converting a VB6 + ADODB app to VB.NET 2010 and targeting both x86 and x64 I understand that ADO is available in both 32 and 64 bits and that .NET supports it.The VB6 code uses ADODB and ADOX to work with OleDb and Odbc data sources. It also uses the Jet and Replication Objects 2.6 library to compact and copy Access database files (if the uderlying database it's using is Access)I'm wondering if I should consider using OleDbConnection/OdbcConnection in the .NET version of the software or stick with ADO.I've looked at OleDbConnection, OdbcConnection and SqlConnection and can see that porting the old code over would be time consuming and risky.
I went through many ado.net documentation but this doesn't seem to get into my matter somehow. It'll be great if anyone can show me how to execute the following function using ado.net coding:
Are there any commands that make life easy with respect to this? I want to take the column schema of one datatable (.net datatable) and copy it to another new datatable.
I am using microsoft access 2003 and visualbasic.net. I am trying desperately to add a database using the wizard, and it lets me go through with it, testing the connection is good, but when I try to finish it gives me an error: "<customers>Could not retrieve schema information for table or view customers." What am I doing wrong? I've added databases in the past without this problem using the same Access.
i have to create a class that creates an xml file using a schema.i created a "Component class in vb.net and setted his properties with the tag xmlelement("nameofthexmlnode").i did the creation of the xml.Now i have to use the xml schema but i didn't found an easy to use/understand example.i know that i have to serialize the object but i can't still create an xml using a valid schema.
I have an .XSD that is made from a class so that I can pass to a webservice. It got it over to the webservice as an XMLSchema object and now I need to make it into a class so that I can make objects out of it on the webservice side. I know that XSD.exe is the answer but I'll be darned if I can puzzle out exactly how to implement this thing. I need it to do this conversion at run time so I need to put the code for it into my project and all the references I've seen to using XSD.exe talk about calling it from the command line.
My .XSD is below. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <xs:schema attributeFormDefault="unqualified" elementFormDefault="qualified" xmlns:xs="[URL]"> <xs:element name="Field"> [Code] ..... In my project this is living in an XMLSchema object. How do I turn it into a class?
I have some data in my Linq.DataContext.I had succes in converting it to an XSD - Schema, using the following code:
Dim changeset As System.Data.Linq.ChangeSet = c.GetChangeSet() Dim objDic As New Dictionary(Of System.Type, List(Of Object)) If Not changeset Is Nothing AndAlso Not changeset.Inserts Is Nothing AndAlso Not
I import a XML to a Dataset and works fine, import XML with Schema and fine to, but for any estrange reason the primary key that is in the XSD don't appears in the Dataset.
The XML and XSD are generated from a access 2003 table, right button and export.[code]...
I'm a little stuck here and maybe some of you can point me in the right direction ... maybe even get me a solution. Well, I do query a table but before everything I need to get the SQL Query to create the Table (like you get, when you select to option "Create to" in SQL Server Management Studio). For example like this:
There is an old timesheet application being used in my company and i am going to rewrite it in asp.net.There are other tables which can be linked to new Timesheet table like employee table but my main concern here is the Project and Project_Activity table.In the current system, there is a one project and a activity table which are linked to the timesheet table seperatly and user has to spend alot of time on selecting activities code they worked on for specific project.I have came up with the new idea; Project manager will have to fill up a project template and link all the activities code with the one project before starting this project. This way user will have to select the project only and it will automatically bring the associate codes for them.I like to know if this design will work okay? and is it okay to link Project_Activity table with timesheet?
