Uploading Data From Excel Into A Table
Jun 12, 2011
I am trying to build a function where it calls a dialog box to select an excel file to upload. Once the file is selected then read all data from worksheet 1 except for the header row and insert them into a table while omitting duplicates.
In the excel file, I have 4 columns of data I need to insert into a table called tblParcel which already contains some data from previous transactions. Since there might be overlapping of data, I need a function where it would omit duplicate data when inserting them into the table. I need to do this without the usage of SQL Import and Export feature.

I was using ContentType="application/vnd.ms-excel" on my web site to display a datatable in an excel workbook on the client. It worked great. Now that I have upgraded to Office 2007 and vb.net 2010, I get a warning saying that the file is in a different format than specified by the file extension (.xls). I googled new ways of exporting data to excel, but have yet to find a good example. I usedMicrosoft.Office.Interop.Excel which worked great, except I read that you are not supposed to use this on a web server.

I am trying to export an excel file directory into an Oracle table as opposed to looping through the range and executing a lot of insert statements. I would think that there are better ways to accomplish this in .NET but I can't seem to find any other answer besides convert excel to csv & load it using Sql Loader or External Table. Does anyone know a cleaner & more efficient way that looping through the ranges creating & executing insert statements?

My company is making thousands of products now, every one of them have several test report in excel files. I am thinking about putting all of them into a microsoft sql database,
1. Is it wise to do so? I think a sql database is a lot easier to manage.
2. Can I save or convert the excel file as one data in a table? How could I do it? I only see a image type for data type. Surely I expect to retrieve the excel file through ASP.Net website if necessary.oh, some additional info, every excel file is not big, but it contains pictures inside sometimes.

I have a VB.NET application that creates a dataview from sql table and exports it as an excel file. Now, the data is inserted value by value. Instead, I want to insert the data from the dataview as a bulk insert on to the excel file. The data insert should happen from the third row, as I need to use the first two rows for column insert and data formating (which is done later in the program using excel macro.).Heres the code I wish to upgrade :
Dim strConn As String = "Data Source = LV-SQL2; Initial Catalog = TC_MASTER; user id = SQL2JOB; password = ******** "
Dim strSql1 As String = "Select Customer_id_1, file_name from customer_list_DA order by customer_id_1"
Dim da1 As New SqlDataAdapter(strSql1, strConn)

I am using Visual Studio 2005. I am using a data reader to read an Excel spreadsheet and want to update a SQL Express table. The datatypes in this table mimic a software application I will eventually be passing data to and are listed in the comments in my code. No matter what I do or change, this will not run. I even populated my spreadsheet with zeros and this will not run. I have found many suggestions on the web and tried changing things but nothing seems to work. I also don't know specifically which variable is causing the error or the proper way to make sure there are no blanks in this spreadsheet. The error says "conversion from string "" to 'Double' is not valid Here is my code:
Public Sub btnUpload_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnUpload.Click
'Connect to the Excel spreadsheet
Dim xConnStr As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" & _
"Data Source=" & txtFileName.Text & ";" & _

I want to use the http:[url....API function to upload a picture onto ImageShack and then obtain the image_link. The only problem is, how do you place an image with its file name with the form-data along with the API key? This is what is stumping me in trying to implement the function.By the way, OpenDialog is already implemented to select the file to upload.
Update: I tried adapting the existing code to use the Unified API and it still does not work. If anyone knows what's wrong in the code, just make the modifications... Otherwise,

Imports System.Xml.Serialization
Imports System.Xml.XPath[code]......

I have an asp:table which I want to exported to excel. One of my fields are alpha numeric and when exported to excel the leading 0s are stripped off. After going through this thread: Validation (CSS 2.0): 'mso-number-format' is not a known CSS property name I would like to use the css method "mso-number-format:@;.But the css is not exported to excel. I just tried to test it with simpler css things like bold font etc but its not getting carried over. I can see that if I surround my asp:Label with tags this change gets carried over to the excel but not the css bold . Other solutions in other thread does not work for me as ="00111" shows up as desired in excel but in the web form it shows up as ="00111" which is not what i want.
