At the moment we have a single column in thew users table which is named 'Access_Level', this field holds an int value (1 to 4) which is then use to determine users access to certain areas of the application. This worked fine when the system was small, but the system is growing rapidly now so I think it is a good time to update the user access and possibly introduce roles.

Membership Provider For MS Access In VB?
Aug 13, 2010Over the past few weeks I've been attempting to convert the readily available C# code for the Membership Provider etc whilst working with MS Access. I'm fairly experienced with VB unlike C# and have ran AccessMembershipProvider.cs, AccessConnectionHelper.cs and so on through 3 different converters. All of which have given a varying degree of errors, all of which I've fixed, either by ever so slightly re-writing the logic or in the Cryptographic case finding a working translation.
This evening I have fixed all of the errors from all of the now converted VB files (which I was pretty pleased about as you can imagine), I then created a simple login page to test this out, added a new user to the system and tried to login to find out I'm being told the username or password is wrong.Just to clarify, the converters all had an error or two or even more in some cases which I've bypassed but now I can't login - at all!!Finally I've written reams of code over the years and am really stumped on this one, has knowone actually successfully converted these files from C# to VB and actually got it working?? I'm not looking for someone to send me there hard work but I am almost at the point of not wanting to bother with it anymore and I just can't believe that it's not out there to download.

Jan 1, 2012I have a website with login and register forms using custom HDI Membership provider where Users can login or register new account.
Now I have a desktop software and trying to have two forms for login and register where my users can able to login or register for user convenience and not by going to the website and make them register online.So, I have these to know in order to go further.
1) Can I use HDI membership provider as I have used it in my web application?As previously I have done and I faced many problems and still didn't get clarified here
2) If No, how do I make use in order to make use the same HDI Membership.Finally I need to use the same database for my desktop software as well as my web application with all the possibilities (i.e. I need to validate each parameter of my membership class).I am able to register the user but it is not using the Membership and I'm unable to know why it is not picking up the membership provider from the app.config file.

However i want to only bring back users with certain profile information, that will be users whos profile information matches the selected value in a dropdownlist on the same page. I am using profile provider to record just one extra piece of user information.Can i change or override the GetAllUsers method for this? Adding an extra parameter so its GetAllUsers by Profile. Membership has a FindUsersByName method, i want to do something similar with users by Profile.

VS 2010 ASP.NET Membership Role In Windows Application?
Oct 4, 2010i already create new connectionstring in app.config that point to myDB i already create aspnet membership table in myDB using aspnet_regsql i already create new custom provider and set the connection string there.. what i like to ask:
1. why when the app start, it create new folder app_data which contain aspnetDB.mdf eventhough i already create new connection string ?
2. why when i'm using Membership.CreateUser method, it succesfully inserted in myDB.aspnet_Users table but when i'm using Roles.CreateRole method it doesn't inserted in myDB.aspnet_Roles table?
PS: i'm using .net 4.0, sql2008, vs2010

The isuserinrole returns false and the group is not shown in getrolesforuser. However, getrolesforuser returns all of the built in windows groups as well as custom admin user groups created by our anti virus software (SOPHOS). This tells me that .net doesn't seem to have any issue with reading our active directory but I don't understand why my custom group is not being recognised.

Application That Has Multiple Front Ends Developed Using Windows Forms / WPF / ASP / Compact Framework Mobile Forms
Apr 9, 2010I have the requirement to create an application that has multiple front ends developed using Windows Forms, WPF, ASP and Compact Framework Mobile Forms.I would like to be able to create a series of obejct representing the business logic and have this logic accessible from the various front ends available. My first thought was to use remoting as I'd like to be able to pass the business objects back and forth between client and server but the compact framework doesn't support remoting and also transferring a full framework business object to a compact framework business object doesn't seem possible.My next thought was to use web services but again the passing of business objects seems to be very hard to accomplish. Without doing this I would have to create individual web methods for each business operation.
Finally my next option is to use sockets and write the whole client/server logic within some classes and expose them to the UI/Business layer. My only problem with this is it is not scaleable should the number of clients increase dramatically whereas using remoting or web services I can host the solution via ASP.Net.Does anybody have an ideas on the best way forward for this or even have any input on how they would write an application that required a windows form, wpf, asp website and mobile device GUI all of which want to use the same business logic?

Aug 2, 2011I have a windows forms application written in VB.NET which scrapes information from serveral web pages (who doesn't right)? Anyway, I am having problem with one particular site where partway through the page navigation my application hangs. When I press pause (or break) in the debugger, it stops on a call to System.Windows.Forms.Application.DoEvents.
Resuming execution shows that it really is stuck on this line (it does not reach the next line of code). It also hangs about the same point each time I run it (at least its consistent). Since System.Windows.Forms.Application.DoEvents yields to other threads on the same processor and then resumes execution of the current thread, I think the problem is that some other thread is not behaving well (not returning from some event handling code). I thought Windows 7 was pre-emptive, which makes me
doubt that theory but I really don't know.

The program scrapes somewhere between 12 and 14 pages before it gets stuck on the call to DoEvents. Does anyone have a clue why this would happen? Why would any call to DoEvents hang?

This web application is only used by the employees who work for the company. But later we decided to host this web application on outside server. So the user (from this company only.) can able to login anywhere in the world. First I thought creating the web application using 'windows' authentication thinking we may be using it as an intranet web application. But now my manager asked me to use both 'Forms' and as well as 'Windows' for using this application and this web application will be hosted on outside server. I really don't catch his point of using both types of authentication.

I have this code and I hope that this is correct. I build a dll component from the class file that contains this code and I am trying to use it as a reference in windows forms application. I have allready made this forms application and added the ddl to the reference but I do not know how to use it in there. I would like to activate (insert value 1) inputA & inputB using checkbox and that the outputQ is displayed in textbox (1 or 0). Do I have to use a vb interface to do this? .net 2010 Windows Forms Application Hanging?
Oct 12, 2010I have a windows forms app (32 bit) written in VB2010 which occassionally hangs in windows when minimised to the task bar You click on the icon on the taskbar and it will not come back up on the screen
No other modal forms are open in the application when the hang occurs Other programs respond OK
I ran Process Explorer against when it was Hung but do not know how to interpret the stack page, or even if it is helpful STack page with my application selected and Threads tab selected with CSwitch Delta column sorted descending. Then double clicking the top entry (my application .exe)
Note: This is running on an x64 machine, but also hangs on x32 machines
