I have the following code which is working, which I believe is actually validating the username and password. My hicccup now that Else statement. How do I write the codes for the If......Else part, like if the username is correct and the password is wrong then the msg should be "The Password is incorrect" or vise versa, or if both are incorrect then it should also generate a message.

Username And Password Validation?

Jun 12, 2011

I have a form just like the login form in VB.Net. The usernames are prepopulated on a combobox with datas from the SQL DB backend, and the text box for the password entry is empty. My code is working but what I need help is, for the code to validate the username and password entered against that stored on the SQL DB backend. Like when the user selectes a wrong username but the password entered is correct, there shld be a messagebox like "The username selected is wrong", or if the username is correct and the password entered is wrong then the msg is "The password entered is not correct, please type you password using the right case".

Try
conn.Open()
Dim SelectStm As String = "SELECT * FROM tblStaff WHERE UserName = @UserName AND Password = @Password"
Dim objCmd As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand(SelectStm, conn)

VS 2005 Validation On A Password

Aug 1, 2010

I am new using VB2005 and I need some assistance with the following:I have a created a program that connects to a Access database, the user has to have a user name and password to be able to access the application. So far that is working correctly it validates to make sure that the user and password does exist in the logon table.As you know sometimes people forget their passoword and the administrator has to reset it. I have setup a default password when ask to be reset it which is "Support".If someone logs in using their logon and the temporary passoword (Support) the system is going to promt the user to change it.I would like for the validation of the temporary password not for just anyone to use someone elses logon and just type "Support" and promt them to change it. how can i make sure that the password has been reset.[code]

ASP.NET 4 Password Recovery Validation Failing In IE Only?

Mar 30, 2011

I'm using the ASP.NET Membership provider and using the Password Recovery control to reset the user password if they forget it. On the whole it all works fine, but with one catch when it comes to validation.I have expanded the PasswordRecovery control out to use the template feature to customise the appearance, which is all fine. I have set the user lookup error handler using:

OnUserLookupError="PasswordRecovery1_UserLookupError"

in the opening tag and if I load up the page, type in some junk name and click submit this fires as expected, in all browsers. The snippet of VB code makes an error div visible and sets some text.However, if upon loading the page for the first time I type a duff name into the username box and hit the enter key to submit the form, in Internet Explorer (version 8), the UserLookupError event fails to trigger. It triggers just fine in Chrome or Firefox, just not in IE. I know it's not a focus issue on the form, as I can see the form is being submitted.If I click the submit button first, then following that hit the enter key it does fire, it's just that first time it doesn't, and only in IE.Also to add that if I set breakpoints in the VB code to check to see if the page is being submitted, I can see the Page_Load event fire when I hit the enter key, but not the sub PasswordRecovery1_UserLookupError.

Password Validation For Complexity Requirments?

Aug 25, 2009

For fun I decided to make a password changer tool. The app pulls the local admin account from the registry so I can change it. This is nice because I don't have to select the account from the list, it just pulls it from the registry. So Here is my issues. I want to be able to have the code verify the password meets complexity requirements before it is changed. For example I don't want to be able to put any old password in like "password". I have searched and searched but to no avail. I am not asking for someone to write the code fro me

I have security set up on it so that someone in sales can't enter the module for purchasing, etc... I authenticate the user by having them type in their network password and check it against the AD server with this function:

Checking AD Password - Create A Password Change Form For My Company's Vendors

Jan 15, 2012

I'm trying to create a password change form for my company's vendors. There are a couple of scenarios I could encounter doing this:

1 - User enters invalid current password
2 - New passwords do not match
3 - User's account is locked
4 - User cannot authenticate because password is expired

It's case 4 that I'm struggling with, because their is no way for me to take the password the user entered and verify it against active directory without getting an error.

Password Characters - Get A Textbox Being Using For Password Entry To Display The Black Circle

Feb 10, 2009

How do you get a textbox being using for password entry to display the black circle that you often see in web forms, on the iphone etc etc?

I can change the PasswordChar property to an asterisk no problem and even copying and pasting symbols inserted into Word seemed to work - just couldn't find a symbol that looked like a bullet point!

Can this actually be achieved for a standalone exe, or is it something unique to web forms? Surely copying and pasting symbols from Word isn't actually the answer?

Doing A Lot Of Input Validation In .NET?

Jan 12, 2010

I have a form set up where users can enter their booking for a room at my college. I want to validate the user input to avoid SQL injection (my program uses a MS Access database) and also stop numbers and synbols in their name, etc.I can do the validation fine, but there is to be a lot of validation and then methods executed only if all validation tests come back as true. I did have something like this:

If txtName.Text = "" Then
frmBookErr.SetError(txtName, "Name field cannot be left blank.")
fail = 1
Else

[code]....

And then check the fail variable, but it obviously gets overridden later in the form if one of the validation tests come back as true.

Getting Unique Key Validation?

Jun 21, 2009

I'm a non developer user of VB. I'm using a simple form to input data to a database. have some text boxes bound to data and use a Binding navigator. I want to be able to handle or catch the error when a non unique ID is added. I have tried to include an error handler in several places but the exception is generated anyway. For example I select to add a new record the change the id to a duplicate value and navigate to the previous record and get the error. I want to check or validate the value before it generates the error to avoid the program crashing if someone includes a duplicate id.

GUI Communication And Validation?

Apr 27, 2011

I;m making an application (who ins't xD), anyways, I'm using some encapsulation objects to transport stuff to the BLL. i was wondering (and might be sound stupid, I know) what you guys think is better practice:Either use Objects for transporting lots of stuff (like a BLL object to transport all its attributes) Or-handle around Strings through the GUI and only create objects when strictly needed.

Another question that just popped my mind: I'm using a Validation class in the BLL in order to validate stuff like "This particular object is already mapped, error" or "This is not well formed", and throw exceptions, instead of boolean values, since I'm at BLL level. Do you guys use a Validation class or perform the validation from the object itself? The old "who's responsible" problem.
