I'm making a custom control suited for handling passwords. I have created a control that inherits from a text box and I have implemented a lot of things so far. But what i want to do now is create a system so that when a user types It will display his last character typed for a X amount of time.Is there a way to turn only selected characters into password characters and still be able to get the password text from the Text property ?

Code:
Imports System.DirectoryServices
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
ChangePassword("mydomain.local", "MyUsername", "ValidTestedCurrentPassword", "IAmNew Password!123")
End Sub
[code]....
I am using the above code to allow a user to change the AD password via an application, this is just a sample of the problem code.The error it is generating is that the password is not complex enough, and it does not matter what I put in the new password, it always reports "The password does not meet the password policy requirements. Check the minimum password length, password complexity and password history requirements. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800708C5)" I have tried it as user@domain domainuser I have then tested on one of the domain computers the same password and it changed there without issue.So I can only assume the error message is incorrect.I have tried several combination's of samples on line and they all seem to point back to this as the proper method, I feel certain I am overlooking something.

I'm trying to create a password change form for my company's vendors. There are a couple of scenarios I could encounter doing this:
1 - User enters invalid current password
2 - New passwords do not match
3 - User's account is locked
4 - User cannot authenticate because password is expired
It's case 4 that I'm struggling with, because their is no way for me to take the password the user entered and verify it against active directory without getting an error.

I have an application that currently operates based on a static password that is hard coded into the application. I would like to somehow have the application look in a text file, say: C:passtest.txt for a password. The text file will have nothing but the 1 password in it, it is just to make the changing of the password easier than having to recompile it everytime.
This is in VB.net. Also, there is no required user name for the application, just 1 textbox (TextBox1) that asks for the password.
I suppose the application (upon startup) should read the text file, grab the password, and save it into a string variable called "password".

I want to implement a password text box that will behave like the one we see in Windows 7 (ie, when there is no user input, then it will display a string 'Enter password', and when the user press any key, this string is cleared). I tried all the events like 'TextChanged', KeyPress', etc., but failed to get the result.

I'm making a console app that uses your name and then asks for a password and displays the text. So the start is like this
18:36:01 [Info] Program is started.
18:36:01 [Info] Please enter your name.
NAME GOES HERE AND THEN ENTER TO PROCEED
18:36:04 [Info] Hello Xoslize, Please enter the password.
Password Goes Here and then Enter to Proceed
Some Text Goes Here
How do I do that? I mean the enter to type text, etc. Btw, how about using color on every word?

How do you get a textbox being using for password entry to display the black circle that you often see in web forms, on the iphone etc etc?
I can change the PasswordChar property to an asterisk no problem and even copying and pasting symbols inserted into Word seemed to work - just couldn't find a symbol that looked like a bullet point!
Can this actually be achieved for a standalone exe, or is it something unique to web forms? Surely copying and pasting symbols from Word isn't actually the answer?

'tbxLogin.ResetText()
tbxLogin.ForeColor = Color.Gray
'tbxLogin.TextAlign = HorizontalAlignment.Center
