How do I convert a text into password? i.e. While logging into windows, we are entering our password character by character. how each characters are converted into * ? I dont know how to do this?

View 8 RepliesI have an application that currently operates based on a static password that is hard coded into the application. I would like to somehow have the application look in a text file, say: C:passtest.txt for a password. The text file will have nothing but the 1 password in it, it is just to make the changing of the password easier than having to recompile it everytime.
This is in VB.net. Also, there is no required user name for the application, just 1 textbox (TextBox1) that asks for the password.
I suppose the application (upon startup) should read the text file, grab the password, and save it into a string variable called "password".

That also doesn't work.And the most odd thing about all this, is that the passwordtextbox is getting is value from pass_desincriptada.
How would i put * in a password box when text is written in it but only when text is written in it and i want the *'s to be as many as how many characters are entered so if the pass was test it would be 4 *'s

View 5 RepliesI'm trying to create a small program, which I think will be helpful to others(in here). My aim is to convert the English text shown in screen to Malayalam. English-to-Malayalam conversion is not a problem. But the problem is, how to extract the text from the screen. In most of the converter/translator, the text needs to be copied or written down in the translator tool. But my program will cut off that part. That is, simply move the program window (having a rectangle hollow portion) to the English word that needs to be converted. And upon pressing a button (or autodetect), the English word is converted to Malayalam.
So, my question is how to extract the English text(or words) from the screen (which is seen through the hollow portion of the window.

I am building a vb.net application with VS2010. The aim of the application is to change sln. files from VS2005/2008 versions into VS2010.I am using a Form with 2 text boxes and 2 buttons. When I click the 1st button it reveals the sln file in the text box. Then i have a 'convert' button that I want to use to 'convert' the file that appears in the first text box. I'm trying to create a password change form for my company's vendors. There are a couple of scenarios I could encounter doing this:
1 - User enters invalid current password
2 - New passwords do not match
3 - User's account is locked
4 - User cannot authenticate because password is expired
It's case 4 that I'm struggling with, because their is no way for me to take the password the user entered and verify it against active directory without getting an error.
I am implementing a system where the user can Reset their password if they have forgotten it.Once it is reset I want to give them the option of changing the password so that it will be something more memorable to them.The password is hashed and if i enter in the correct old password and new password the password does change.If I enter in the wrong old password and new password the password doesnt change.Is there a way to match the old password with the old password field in code behind so I can throw up an error to the user to tell them what is wrong? I can change the PasswordChar property to an asterisk no problem and even copying and pasting symbols inserted into Word seemed to work - just couldn't find a symbol that looked like a bullet point!
Can this actually be achieved for a standalone exe, or is it something unique to web forms? Surely copying and pasting symbols from Word isn't actually the answer?
