Using MySQL Query Results As Variables?

Mar 15, 2012

I am finding it exceptionally difficult to pass an sql query result (string) into a variable. No matter what I try, I can't seem to get anything but boolean output from my reader function.I need to obtain staff "account type" from my staff table and then define that account type in a variable.

Assign The Results Of An SQL Query To Multiple Variables In .NET?

Mar 30, 2012

This is my first attempt at writing a program that accesses a database from scratch, rather than simply modifying my company's existing programs. It's also my first time using VB.Net 2010, as our other programs are written in VB6 and VB.NET 2003. We're using SQL Server 2000 but should be upgrading to 2008 soon, if that's relevant.I can successfully connect to the database and pull data via query and assign, for instance, the results to a combobox, such as here:

How do I execute a query so as to assign each field of the returned row to individual variables?

VS 2008 - Adding Results From MySQL Query To Array?

Jul 12, 2010

I seem to be having a heck of a time trying to figure out how to add the results from a mySQL query to an array in vb.net. Right now, I only understand that you have to define the dimension of the array, however this is shy of impossible since the dimension of the array will change due to different results from the query. What is the proper way to take my results and put them in an array?

Establish A Connection To MySQL Via VB & Display Simple Query Results On A Form?

Dec 12, 2010

I have a project in Visual Studio 2008 and there is a working data connection to a MySQL database. In other words, I can query the db directly from Visual Studio and it will display the results.

I've tried a couple of approaches that I found online for writing a connection string and accessing the db, but no luck yet.

All I'm trying to do is code a button to query the db and then reset the text property of a label/textbox to display the results based upon another label/textbox value.

The pseudo-code I am imagining is something like this:

Private Sub query_submit_button_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles query_submit_button.Click
result_textbox.Text = SELECT field FROM table WHERE otherfield = key_textbox.Text
End Sub

I didn't see any related questions posted on SO - forgive me if I missed one that already exists and this is a dupe.

What is the correct way to accomplish this?

EDIT
Using MySQL 5.1

Delete A User In A Mysql Server Based On Search Results?

Sep 8, 2011

I have a datagrid control with a list of names that it retrieves from a MySql database. I can search through them until i have one result. I want to be able to Display a groupbox control when the number of results is equal to 1. Also, in the groupbox i have a button that when clicked will delete this user from the server and their information from the mysql table called "employee". when the user is deleted i'll display a confirmation message in a messagebox, and reload the table with the updated list. so far the only two problems i have are showing the groupbox when the results are equal to 1 and deleting the user from the sql server based on the name of the search result

Private Sub TextBox1_KeyUp(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles TextBox1.KeyUp
'Search Function.

.net - Passing @(at Sign)-variables To MySQL?

Nov 11, 2011

I am fairly new to VB.NET so I research alot when I run into bugs. Problem is I cannot find a solution to this, or anything remotely dealing with it. I am developing software to connect to a remote mysql server, run a query, and come back with a dataset. I have run this query against the server through a mysql prompt and have received a result successfully. But when i try to run this query from my app, I get an object reference error.

Through debugging I have found that the @ character used for variables in sql strings, is causing the problem in my code, but i cannot find a way to pass this query to the server without visual studio throwing errors. Every answer to the use of variables that I have found, suggests specifically stipulating the variable values in my code, which I do not want to do.

Formatting SQL Query Results?

If this is in the wrong section, I have a program that queries a database and puts the info in a specific format in a txt file. Now my problem comes w/ how to format the date.

Should I format the date in the SQL query OR is there a way to take the result from the query and format sometime before it is writen to the txt file? I'm not exactly sure how to do either. Would I need a subquery to get the desired date format?

VS 2010 Class / Properties And Variables W/ MySQL

May 3, 2012

Ok so my boss told me that I can't use DataSet's and dataadapter and such like this because it isnt good for scalability. So, I must change the way I have my 28,000 records binded to my form. The problem is, I'm only 3 months in with VB.NET and I don't know of any other way to accomplish what I need to do. I was reading somewhere that I can use a Class as my "Order" and I can bind the variables/properties to the form and with this, I can navigate through records while having controls on each important part of the "Order". Unfortunately, I don't know what I'm doing, this is as far as [code]Any guidance as to what I am to do from here in order to pull the data from my database and bind to the property, then to a text box/combo box, and a way that I can use my binding navigator to go through the many records.

Asp.net - No Results From Oracle Query In VB ASPX?

Jul 10, 2009

Why would a VB/ASPX page not return results for a query which runs fine with other Oracle clients? (Same username) The following code should first output the query and then execute it outputting a single exclamation point per record. However, it outputs the query (as it should), but does not return any rows (nor error). If I copy the query to SQL Plus (or other editor) as the same user, the query returns results.

Why might my code not output any results?

Dim MyQuery As String = "...some query..."
Dim Factory As DbProviderFactory = DbProviderFactories.GetFactory("System.Data.OracleClient")
Dim myConn As DbConnection = Factory.CreateConnection
Dim myCommand As DbCommand = Factory.CreateCommand
