Put Graphics Into A Variable?

Mar 11, 2010

I am relatively experienced with vb.net. I am currently creating a program that outputs an image, but the image being outputted consists of text and other graphical elements.

So the text element would look like:

graphics.DrawString(text, variable, variable, variable, variable)

My problem is that I cannot create more than one set of each element that I am creating. And then put that into the code that creates the image.

Is there a way of creating this line of code and then putting it into say a variable and then putting the variable into the code where the image is created?

'Graphics' Not Part Of System.eventargs?

Feb 15, 2011

I am researching ways to use vbTab and Tab stops to create a report in VB 10. I found some code that demostates the tab methods. When I plug the code into Visual Studio 10, I get 'graphics' not part of System.eventsargs, referring to the g.graphics.drawstring command. I have tried several different imports statements with no success.

System Displays The Graphics So Slow?

Sep 24, 2011

my system is fully designed but everytime I click a button that will to another form (which is also fully designed) the response of my system is to slow. Can you suggest anything to make it faster? I'm afraid that it will catch the attention of the panelist (I have a defense, 2 weeks from now). Here's the image which I've screen shot. Everytime I click a button it will take up to 3 seconds. Thats the sequence.

Interface And Graphics :: Program Generated Variable Length Form?

May 10, 2011

I have an existing vb.net application which uses a home grown database. The database has over 60,000 unique multi-field records in it.The user can search in each field using drill-down to find a record, and then can add that record to a separate database.(60,000 collectibles described in a master database. User can drill down by category, manufacturer, year produced, etc. to find a record and then add it to their own 'collection', 'wanted', 'have for sale', or 'spares' database for record keeping.)

Instead of having them drill down, I would like for them to be able to perform a search and have all of the results (any amount of matches from 1 to 60,000+) appear on a scrolling form with a checkbox next to each so that they can simply check any that they want and do a mass add to their list databases.

The part I cannot figure out is how to have vb.net (2008) create a variable length scrolling form with the results, and how to identify the checkboxes (generated by the system for search matches) to see which, if any, have been checked by the user.

Floodfill With A System.Drawing.Graphics() Object

Jun 7, 2011

I need to make a basic drawing program in VB that can do three things:

"Draw" with a brush of some sort
Clear the screen
Perform a flood-fill (paintbucket action)

I decided to do the first two tasks first, and got them to work, but the third task completely eludes me. Every way I try seems to pile on exceptions, and every flood-fill algorithm I find seems to require a bitmap, rather than a Graphics() object. Is there any way to accomplish a flood-fill using a Graphics object, or must I restart the project using a bitmap?

Interface And Graphics :: Menu Navigation For Large System?

May 26, 2010

We are in the final stages of releasing a new in-house written system within our company. We have opted to create a single system/project containing multiple programs (like a mini ERP system). We are stuck on the navigation mechanism which will allow the user to load the appropriate forms. I am personally not a fan of the Tree View control because I think it is unfriendly to users. I have been looking on the web for some inspiration and I am interested in the design of the OPEN BRAVO ERP system. Before we dive in though, I wanted to get other programmers opinions. What do you find works best in VB 2008?

.net - Invoking Interface Method Using System.Object Type Variable

Jan 6, 2011

I have an interface ITest with a method GetResult(). I have a class Test which implements ITest and thereby defines private method GetResult().

Next I create an instance of Test in a different class. The code is as below:

Module NewClass
Public Sub New()
Dim i As ITest = New Test()

[Code]....

I am migrating existing code from VB 6 to VB.NET and hence I'm not supposed to change the access modifier of GetResult. Leaving it Private will throw InvalidCastException Unable to cast object of type 'System.Object' to type 'ITest'

Object type variable o is used in many places and hence I don't want to change that. And yes, Test implements ITest.GetMember with a different name.

Rendering Graphics Efficiently - DirectX - Graphics Card And Use Of DirectDraw Or OpenGL

Sep 23, 2011

We have a GIS application that has some performance issues. It creates and sends an image to a web browser. We start with a Bing Maps imager, add complex polygons (complete with transparent fill), save the finished image as a PNG, and send it to the browser.

The idea has come up that we could possibly install a graphics card and use DirectX or OpenGL to improve performance. I believe this would be the case even though we ultimately generate an image instead of sending the data the the screen. I believe our processes could still make use of the API and the hardware acceleration it provides. Our process is not unlike what CGI film makers do to render individuals frames of a film, though we simply render a single image and send it, as opposed to the hundreds of thousands of images needed for a single CGI film.

So my question is: would a powerful graphics card and use of DirectDraw or OpenGL provide us a worthwhile performance boost? It can take us 20-30 seconds to render a more complex map. Which is a long time to wait on a web page...
