In v2003 setting the form property 'ShowInTaskbar' to FALSE would hide the form from the task bar but also hide the form if I did a 'ALT-TAB'. This is not the case in v2005. WHY and how can I hide the form for 'ALT-TAB'. The form has to be border-less.

I have a new application, and for some unknown reason, it's hidden behind other opened applications. It is shown when launched on desktop only if desktop is empty. How do I force my application to be in front of desktop ?

View 1 RepliesBeen a long time since my last thread but here we go.I'm using VS.NET 2010 Prof Beta at the moment and I'm trying to list all Nic Cards and their settings into a text box. I succeeded with a script from the web (which had an error in the first place) and some adjustments to it.
It lists all hidden devices too (as to be shown in Device manager: Show hidden devices) I worked my way around it and let it jump to next if it doesn't have a IP address, but I find this a bit clumsy and want to really skip them if they are hidden and not just the way I did this now.
Plus it still does show the same NiC (different name, same MAC#) in the list because it has an IP, but in Device manager this one is hidden.[code...]
I have a windows form that I bind to a datatable via a binding source. The binding is done in code at run time. Eg;Me.txtCode.DataBindings.Add(New System.Windows.Forms.Binding("Text", bsForm, "ToolCode", True)) (bsForm is the binding source)This works well except if the form control is hidden (I have a couple controls on the form that hold Record ID and Version numbers that the user doesn't need to see). Databinding doesn't seem to work reliably for hidden controls.

I am using a Windows Dialog form in my VB 2008 project. I bring up the dialog form no problem with the following

But there is one problem. If I call up the dialog form again, the form controls have the text values that were typed in during the previous instantiation and a class which is part of the form was not disposed. So it looks like the form is being "hidden" and not closed. I tried to use the code form.dispose but it didn't work.
I am creating a program that uses text files to recall data and store them in a variable. My intention is to make this text file hidden so it will be harder to find and for other people to edit the data inside. I'm looking for a code that enables me to write to the file without unhiding it.

We have an application that has a main form with a map on it. Right now the paradigm is to have forms that are displayed using menu items to display information to the user. Most of these forms are modal forms, but a couple are non-modal forms that interact with the map. For some of the forms, it really would make for a better user experience if we could dock them in the main form of the app and allow the user to see both the form and the map. For instance. We could have a list of map features in a docked window, and select one of the items on the list and have the map zoom to that feature. Or do the reverse: let the users select a map item and have a docked window that shows details of the feature. Sounds great, but I wonder about what sort of gotchas we may encounter. In particular, what if we have two windows docked at the same time? Could we get tangled up in our event code?

So I try to add a new inherited form to the project, but it says "Warning: No build assemblies contain components to inherit from. Build the current application, or click Browse and select a previously built assembly from another application". My base class is declared public and my exe has been built. I don't understand. Can you only do form inheritance in a dll?

Now, as you see, on the form 1 load event, the streamwriter writes "Physics" to the text file. When the button on form 2 is clicked, the streamwriter writes "English" to the same file. As an end result, I expected BOTH "Physics" and "English" to be in the text file but the final result is only "English" in the text file. What do I have to do so that the textfile continuously stores these lines?

I want all my form to be inherits from one of my class e.g.ParentClass but indeed the windows forms already inherits windows.forms.form class. what I have tried is that, I inherit "windows.forms.form" in "ParentClass" and all forms inherits my "ParentClass". View 2 RepliesI was working on one of my forms, not doing anything crazy or out of the ordinary, just adding a control to the form. When all of a sudden vb became real sluggish and barely responsive, so I closed VS and restarted the computer. Got back into my project and now I can't open any form. Opening a form gives me <b>failed to parse method 'InitializeComponent'. The parser reported the following error 'Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.'. Please look in the task lisk for potential errors.</b>.Error list sometimes contains 102 errors, and sometime just one that says I have exceeded the maximum number of errors. When it contains 102, every single one of the errors is <b> [Object/Form] is ambiguous in the namespace [Project] </b>.
I can't open any designers right now, every single one of them gives the failed to parse method error. If I rename, lets say frmAbout to frmAbout1, then I can see that form.There is only one of everything in Solution Explorer, no duplicates. There are no duplicates in the folder either. I can open the code for each form/object and see it just fine, and looks fine too. Code is not duplicated or anything.

I have 2 forms. The first form has a label on it. The second form has a combo box, a text box, and a button on it. In the second form, when I select the label name that I want to edit, I type in what I want to change the label name to in the textbox and I click the button. Now this goes through flawlessly except I want the combobox item to change to the NEW label name. I've been able to do that but when I close the form in run-time and open it up again, the previous label name appears once again. Is it possible to make the combobox add the new label name and KEEP it in its collection?
View 9 RepliesThe functionality of the application is not that difficult. The challenge is in the displaying of the forms. I have not started coding yet. When I run the application, the screen should be in the land scape format irrelevant of which computer or laptop you are using and how costly it is. The form should be displayed 90 degrees rotated in counter clock wise direction. How is that possible? Attached is the screen shot of what I want.
