VB 2008 - Sorting And Searching An Array From An External .txt File

In the past, I have learned by reading three or four other people's coding and once I gained understanding of how it worked, I could easily write my coding. I've got I will say this is a school project, so I don't expect anyone to just throw coding at me. I'd like to actually learn this stuff! Also, I HAVE read my book (over and over) and also requested help from the instructor, but as I'd like to meet the deadline on this project, I'm having problems waiting on his availability or lack thereof.

Ok so I have this program that shows data in a treeview and that data is from a datatable.I'm basically looping through the datatable row by row and adding nodes.The data looks something like the following:

I have a thread that is hitting the Database (where these records are stored) every 5 seconds to see if the list is smaller,bigger or changed.If so, I was just recalling the load_form sub but this was taking too long as the lists could potentially be very large. Also, there is a lot of logic that comes into play depending on what user is displaying the records in the treeview.I was wanting to know what would be the fastest way to compare the datatable that was previously used to initially create the nodes in the treeview to a tempdatatable that has the currently updated/added/removed rows and update the treeview accordingly?The only thing I could come up with was basically looping through the tempdatatable and comparing each row to the rows in the original datatable and plucking out the ones that had no match.Then recursively looping through the nodes in the treeview to find the spot that the new node should be added (based on that datarow's values).Or is there a better way to do this and I should scrap this?

sort the listbox that is being populated by data from an exteranl hard drive. The DB's on the Hard drive are contained in folders with a naming format as follows (Jan94 - Dec08)The issue is that on the HD all the folders(yrs) for Apr are listed together and then the rest listed the same way, just sorted based on 1st alpha character. The format I want to show in the list box is as follows:

Program : my game is a frogger port, you make the frog cross the road until you run out of lives. When you die, you are asked to enter your name and the name is appended to the end of file called names.txt, the final score is appended to the end of a file called scores.txt.Using the System.IO functions, i read the contents of each text file, and load the contents into two separate strings (one for names, one for scores. These two long strings are then broken down using Split() command, transferring the pieces into an array. (again 2 arrays - one for names, one for scores). The contents of both arrays are then loaded into 2 listboxes, 1 for scores, 1 for names.
Problem: i can sucessfully load the contents of both files, and display them side by side - but i want to re-arrange the scores so that they are in descending order. While doing this, i need to make sure that the player name matches up with the score - so the order of the names being displayed would have to be changed aswell. After spending many, many hours trying to do it myself i have had to give up - i'm clueless. My first issue is converting the score array into integers so that the array could be sorted, the second problem is then sorting the names so that the scores and names match up.

I'm trying to sort an array based on a structure but whenever I do this, it basically erases all the data in the entire array.I have verified that the array is populated correctly, it is when using array.sort that everything returns blank.

Ok so I know that you can sort by using a bunch of different sorting algorithms but I just am not sure how to start this off. I have written this code and just want to know if you can even sort this.
The program takes the users information in from text boxes from another part of the program and writes the information into a text file. So when the user clicks on this button it will display all the people that have entered in their names. I want to sort their last names alphabetticaly.

I'm trying to get a program running that loads a sequential file such as "records.txt" into a two dimmensional array and searches the "records.txt" for the data that the user enters into a text box. Not quite sure how to go about doing this.

Does anyone has some experience with calling a strings which includes the "Dim blabla As New MySQLCommand(SELECT *... etc." I'm not talking about the connectionstring itself, but the "SELECT" part. Really would like to know how to read it from an external file. I don't care what kind of file. (.text / .xml / ...)

I am learning about the search capability in an array. I wrote a code that stores three names (first & last) and I want to:
- Make the user select a number (from 1-3) by using a (combobox)
- If the user select the proper number then a message will appear that the name is there.
- If not then an error message will appear.
I did all I could by creating this but my main problem is in the (ButtonFind). I went through lots of tutorials and this is what I came up with and I hope that my code is correct.[code]

I have a 2 column database....looks a little something like this:
Column A Column B
972CL 86.20716105
972CL 58.71034089
972CL 64.15368376[code].....
In column A there are 5 different variables (i have shown 3)....My goal code a macro to sort these by column A, calculate the average of the corresponding values in column B and ultimately end up with 5 variables that are the names of column A. e.g
972CL = average of all the 9721CL variables
972V = average of all the 972V variables
A caveat is that i will not know the names of the variables...i'm not sure if this code below is the right way:

sorting list of files in a folder. Below is a snipet of code from a program. The logic is dependant on the files coming in in alphapetical order. I did post about this earlier but I got pulled away and did not get a chance to follow the thread all the way through. The code is complete and it works. However I know it is not guarenteed to pull in alphabetical order so as my final step I wanted to sort the list of files. I thoughr using the array.sort command might work but I am not sure how to use it.
