View 1 RepliesIs their anyway of getting the meta information of a file?[code]I've been searching Google for over an hour and found very little help.
View 2 RepliesI'm making an picture manager for personal use, and was wondering if it's possible to list up more information of an image. For instance, In Windows 7 there is a feature when I left click one time at a picture I get a little thumbnail and some information about the picture, like: Dimensions, ISO-Speed, Camera producer, blitz mode etc.
So my question is; How can this be implemented to Visual Basic 2010?
I am working with the formula for writing information to a text file. I have a program with 4 text box's and 5 radio buttons. I need to the program to write all of the info from the 4 text box's that the user has entered and the radio button that the user has selected.
View 5 RepliesIm making a program that can make diffrent profiles. So it have to save: Username, Password, etc. then be able to read it.But I have no clue how to read diffrent lines, and stuff.I was thinking if ex. the pass was like this:<Pass>Pass here</Pass>I can read what was between those things, but I coulnt get it to work ...
View 14 RepliesI am using VB2005 and trying to put an application together.What it needs to do is retrieve information from a binary file, possibly alter that information, and put it back into a new file.The file is a .wav file with data appened to the end. There is an additional section at the end of the .wav file which stores xml data.I have found that if I open this in a hex editor and make a 1:1 swap on any of the bytes that the application that the file is for can still read the XML.If I tried to add or remove characters from the XML then it would not read. I located a header byte and incremented it to resolve this.
This worked as an excellent bandage to do conversions where the data always needed to be changed to the same thing.What I have been asked to do is build logic that allows for different things to happen depending upon what data is contained within the file.The method that I am currently trying to impliment is:
Read through the file with a system.io.binaryreader
Searche for a bytestream that will signal data is coming
For example:
If System.IO.File.Exists("C: est estread.wav") Then
Dim findit() As Integer = New Integer() {&H3C, &H55, &H73, &H72, &H44, &H65, &H66, &H30, &H31, &H30}
Dim i As Integer[code].....
And then extract all the data till the end of element marker "<" It seemed like there should be a better way and I was looking for some insight. If I proceed with this method, I will have to read the file one time to gather the information and then a second time to write it all out with the header modified for length.This is my first experiene with working with binary files in this way.Also,I've been experiementing with building a string and slapping it back in at the end using the binarywriter.write(string) method.I noticed that it was putting in header characters before the string.These seem to change if I change the length of the string.At one point it was d0 07. Later it became e7 07. Does anyone know of a way to prevent this header from being inserted?
I tried a for each loop to grab all of the characters from the string, convert them to a byte array and deposit the byte array into the file, but the header remained the same. When I write the byte array generated from a system.io.binaryreader I do not get this header.
Im creating a game like CityVille where you create a city and such. The game allows you to name your city and such and because I dont understand how to use the settings thing to save stuff I want to use a text file. I want the textfile to look like this:
city_name: namehere
money: moneyhere
plots: plotshere
population: pophere
smallhouseowned: numberhere
etcetc
How do I make VB read the file and put the information in the right variables?
I need to store specific information about a user in a file of some sort. Something like an old ini file?
I will need to save a file for each customer.
CustomerName
OrderDate
DeliveryDate

All things point to a database but for several reasons I can't use a database.
Basically i am creating a console application that will create and store client information as a .txt file it is going okay but i have come across a slight hick up i want to use something on the lines of this .....
dim lastname as string
Do Until Integer.TryParse(Console.ReadLine(), LastName) = False
Console.WriteLine("Invalid input, Please try again")
Console.Write("LastName:-")
[code].....
this works fine to trap out numbers from letters but the problem i am getting is when the program calls uppon LastName it is recording 0 and wanted to know if there is a way of getting past this ..... so basically i need a way to allow letter but not numbers and symbols and then dispay a pernolised error message but at the same time use Stream writer to save was the answer is in a .txt file.
Whether I am using VB 2008 Express or VS 2010 Beta 1 Visual Basic, I get the same error: "Debugging information for 'EXCEL.EXE" cannot be found or does not match. Cannot find or open the PDB file" I have filled in the Debug Tab information: Start external program: C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice12Excel.exe

how to save information into a text file from runtime VB2005. However, I wish to be able to write the information into any kind of form of file that cannot be simply opened and read by anyone (such as text file can be). Is there anyway that VB2005 can do this?
View 2 RepliesI'm using Visual Basic express 2008.The application I am working on is the first major project I have ever undertook with visual basics. The application is a launcher for a private server for world of warcraft.I have a menu bar that pulls the file path of the wow.exe and puts it in a hidden textbox, I then have another option that saves this text to c:wowexe.txt. All of this works GREAT!
How can I read the .txt file to end and return the information stored in the .txt file to this line of code.
Dim RetVal
RetVal = Shell("This is where I need the data from the .txt file to be seen", 1)
If your wondering why I don't just type in the path of the .exe, it's simple, not everyone installs World of Warcraft on the C drive.
I am writing a program that uses several textboxes that a user will fill in and then click the add button to add the data into the datagrid. There is no backend database or anything. Just seeing the data in the program only.
What I want to do is then export this data from the datagrid into a file, preferably excel.
I've done copying textbox data into txt files but I can't find a method to copy datagrid data into a file.
I am making trying to make a program that can read the file information directly from a specified file, but I am having a lot of difficulty reading things like file comments.An example of this can be found in windows XP when you alternate / right click on any file and click on properties. You'll get a lot of extra information.Now I have a few questions about this.
1.Can this information even be read in VB.NET
2.If so how
3.If not do I need to create some kind of data file to store the file information
Here is what I did so far

View 11 Replieson my form i have a button and five textboxes... when i click the button it takes me to a website. on this website is a list of five items. i want to take these five items and place them in the 5 textboxes. up to now what i have been doing is highlighting the first item in the list on the website, right clicking and using the copy feature, then going back to the vb form and pasting the first item in textbox1... then go back to the website and highlight item two... return to the form and paste in textbox2.. then the same procedure for the next three items
is there a way to highlight all five items from the website, right click, select copy and then paste the information into the 5 textboxes on the form... one in each of the textboxes provided without doing it one at a time
I've been trying to get information from a Access DB that I have added into VB 2010, the code is as follows:

I am writing an app which gets information from a website. Basically I load the webpage into a webbrowser control and parse the document text for what I need.
My problem is: I have a German version of windows. The webpage returned has the German version of the webpage. I require the English version but there is no way of specifying the language in the URL, so it must be picking up the default language of my operating system. How can I override this, is there a property of the Webbrowser control which I can set?
I want to extract some information from a web site (Bloomberg). This side has a search textbox with a onKeyUp event that, as far as I can understand, uses AJAX to create a table. Is it possible to insert some text in the textbox and then get the table created with AJAX? Given the source code of the page with the tabled already AJAXed (If you understand what I want to say here), I can easily retrieve the table. I just need to get the source code with the table already on it.

View 5 RepliesI need to navigate to a webpage and copy a string of information from it within the shortest possible timeframe. The site has the following written on it:This is the string that you need to apply to your algorithm.
Generated String: 61*76*83*47*69*88*
I want to copy the string from the webbrowser control and place it into a string called "GenString"
I have declared a variable for all the controls of my form (Dim result As String) and when i close the form (me.close()) and open it again, the value of the result var don't go to nothing (""). Why is that happening? Close is actually the unload of the form. Shouldn't it delete all the information of the variables?
View 2 RepliesI have been trying to find a way to extract information from a website WITHOUT a webbrowser control. I do not want to use the webbrowser because it is too laggy.
so this is what i've tried:
Dim browser As System.Net.WebClient = New System.Net.WebClient
browser.BaseAddress = ("website here")
Dim info As String = browser.DownloadString(browser.BaseAddress)
[Code]....
as you can see, what i've tried is to download the websites source code then find with an index value the information i want. However, how do i get specific information from the website without having to find the information by its index location?
In short, is it possible to use GetElementById without having to use webbrowser1?
I have this XML, and I want to know how I can go to one of the tags and make its contents into a variable.
Here is the xml:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<Mediainfo version="0.7.34">
<File>
[Code]....
But it only showed be how to go to the first tags. In this xml, it is in a few tags, (<MediaInfo> <File> and <Track>) I don't know how to go past those tags to get to the tags that I want to get to, plus, how would it work when there is a few things that have <Track> as a tag? Could I use the whole thing <track type="Whatecer"> to get there?
I just have no clue on how to do this, can anyone please help me out to get to each tag? I am pretty sure I will be able to make it into a variable my self.

View 18 RepliesI'm developing a Windows application that runs on a terminal server and users connect to it via remote desktop. Standard stuff. However, I would like to know something about the user and I was wondering if there's a way to get some information about the client that the user connects from (his local machine).
