Sql Server - SQLException Obtaining More Information?

Jun 14, 2012

Currently working with converting SQLException error messages into messages that are more useful for the end user. My largest issue has been finding the information I'm looking for.For instance, error code 8114 is

"Error converting data type [Type1] to [Type2]" And error code 8152 is "String or binary data would be truncated"

Using ADO.NET in VB.NET with SQLServer, is there a simple way to figure out which columns are affected by these errors?

Asp.net - Saving Text Data From SQL Server To File Directory Using Asp

Mar 15, 2010

A variety of files (pdf, images, etc.) are stored in a ntext field on a MS SQL Server. I am not sure what type is in this field, other than it shows question marks and undefined characters, I am assuming they are binary type.

The script is supposed to iterate through the rows and extract and save these files to a temp directory. "filename" and "contenttype" are given, and "data" is whatever is in the ntext field.

I have tried several solutions:

1) data.SaveToFile "/temp/"&filename, 2

Error: Object required: '????????????????????'

???

2) File.WriteAllBytes "/temp/"&filename, data

Error: Object required: 'File'

I have no idea how to import this, or the Server for MapPath. (Cue: what a noob!)

3)
Const adTypeBinary = 1
Const adSaveCreateOverWrite = 2
Dim BinaryStream

[Code]....

This works, but the file should be saving to the server instead of popping up save-as dialog. I am not sure if there is a way to save the response to file.

Save Data To A Text File On A Remote Server?

Mar 13, 2011

I'd like to save data to a text file on a remote server I have. There are no security issues here, just the method.

Dim FILE_NAME As String = "123.456.789.012/variables.txt"
If System.IO.File.Exists(FILE_NAME) = True Then
Dim objWriter As New System.IO.StreamWriter(FILE_NAME)

[Code].....

I know it's not the most secure way of doing things, but the end data has to be in the txt format, otherwise I'd have used MySQL.

Import Text File To SQL Server 2008 Database In Real Time

Jan 31, 2012

I have a machine which creates a new log file at the beginning of the day(12am) and updates the log file whenever there is any changes until the end of the day. How do I import the data in real time (30 sec, 1min or whenever there is any changes) to my SQL server database? Will SQL Server 2008 be able to access the active log file? If not will it be easier if I let my machine create a new log file whenever there is any updates? But if it is so, how do I import so many log files with different names in real time. (I must be able to scale the solution up to multiple machines).

1 List all of the data from Teams.txt in a Listbox. Include suitable headings.

2 List all of the data from Results.txt in the Listbox (use the same Listbox as in 1 above).Include suitable headings. Note that you cannot assume that the file contains onlyresults for the first 3 weeks of the season. Your program should be able to process a results file with more or fewer results.

3 List all of the data from Results.txt in the Listbox. However, in this case the actual team names should be output (your program will need to get this data from Teams.txt. The data should be formatted so that it is aligned correctly. Include suitable headings.

The output might look as follows:

Obtaining Data From Proprietary USB / HID Device?

Jan 22, 2011

What is the best way to go about retrieving data from a proprietary hardware device that interfaces via HID USB? The particular device I need the data from is a blood-pressure/heartbeat measurement & monitoring device. The hardware came with software that downloads the data from the device and places that data into a (passworded/encrypted) MS Access database that I cannot connect to using programmatic methods, at least not without having the (admin's) password. The software provided produces reports, but the formatting renders them virtually useless (well, completely useless) for the needs of our company.

The device manufacturer provides to it's customers no API or any other technical information for accessing the data produced by their product; so, this pretty much leaves me stuck trying to figure out how to obtain the data via custom application in order to reclaim the initial justification for the expense associated with the hardware, which by the way has already been purchased.I don't need code snippits specifically, though examples would be nice; what I really need is to know is how to best approach this project, from a general design and programming stand-point.

[VS2008] Text File Data To Insert Into A Database For Report

Dec 11, 2010

I have a text file data to insert into a database for report

ITEM01,Toy
ITEM02,Card

Let me briefly list down the steps i took to achieve my result.

1) Insert data into Database using text file
2) Display the records from the NEW Database(Item2) using DataGridView
3) Using datagridview, i use to checkboxes to determine the selectedRow
4) Once the selectedRow are selected. I press on Delete Button

Delete Button - Update the Item2 Table field 'Deleted' to 1 - Delete the ItemID by using datagridview selectedrow cell value Which means in 1 loop, i process two database transaction.. Is there something wrong? How do i shorten the process to just delete the item without querying two database.

Dim enums = From en In typeName.GetEnumNames

VS 2010 - Storing Text Data In File For Program Use

Jun 28, 2011

Here is what I would like to do:
- Store string data from a 'sign in' form into a text file. This text file must be one that is saved even after the user exits the program. The text file must also be one that will stay with the program even after it is published (executable).
- Be able to write to/read from the file for purposes of displaying some or all of that data on a form.

I use an Application Setting to do this - of type 'Specialized String Collection'. I tried this, but for some reason I could not get it to work. It was a good idea, but I need to be able to SEE the data that has been saved, and with a setting it seems like that is not easily done. I've decided that I either need to use a simple text file or a 1-table database for this. I would prefer just a text file, but in either case, it needs to be part of the .exe when published.

I have added a text file to my project, but I am not sure if it will be "included" in the project when I publish it. The path of the file I've added is in 'My Documents', but in my code, I will have to specify the path in order to use Streamwriter. How will this affect the program when I publish it? I felt the need to make a new thread because on my last one we had been mainly talking about settings, and I've decided that isn't the best option for me.

Switch Network SQL Server 2008 R2 Database To A Mobile SQL Server CE *.sdf File

Nov 2, 2011

I have developed a VB.NET program using a strongly typed dataset. This dataset has its connection to a SQL Server 2008 R2. The software should now be additionally used offline. The database should be exported to a *.sdf database. If no connection to the SQL server is produced, the software have to try to connect to the *.sdf database.I would like to achieve:

1. Export the data in the SQL Server 2008 R2 database to a local *.sdf file.

2. This *.sdf file has to work as an alternate connection string in the strongly typed dataset.

So the file still exist but it empty. It happens when my program runs this line of code.

Threaded Sub-Procedure Within A Module Not Obtaining Correct Data From Other Form?

Example:

I am obviously getting some sort of cross-thread issue here but have no idea how to correct this. I usually just setup single threads so this is my first time playing with ThreadPool & already lost at step 1!
