VS 2005 Compile File As Resource In .exe
May 24, 2011
is it possible to take a compiled help file and add this as a resource to an application and have it compile into the .exe? I know you can do this with graphics, The reason I ask is because the customer wants just an exe to distribute - not a whole install program.

I have added a resource file in App_GlobalResources called FileList.resx. Now I access the contents within the code by using My.Resources.FileList.astro1 etc. It works fine if I set the Build Action of resource file to Embedded. However in this case the resource file is not available after compile and I can't change it later. If I set the Build Action to Content I get an error : Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture or the neutral culture. Make sure "WAP.FileList .resources" was correctly embedded or linked into assembly "WAP" at compile time, or that all the satellite assemblies required are loadable and fully signed.

When I load my solution and compile it after first starting the IDE, everything works as expected. After changing source and recompiling, I get the following compile error:
Error 11 Unable to copy file "objDebugCAMDRS.Library.dll" to "binCAMDRS.Library.dll". The process cannot access the file 'binCAMDRS.Library.dll' because it is being used by another process. CAMDRS.Library.
After closing Visual Studio 2005 and reopening the solution I can compile again successfully. This is an old solution that has been fine for a long time. I just recently changed computers and reinstalled everything.I am running win XP Pro sp2, Visual Studio 2005 sp1.

I have a resource file that I include in my shared code library that has all of my re-usable classes in it (all the resources go into their own namespace). Now, what is the best practice regarding resources... should I include them in the same DLL, or should I have a seperate resource DLL and/or are there any benefits from seperating them out into their own file.

I've been building tools for ArcGIS. Part of ArcGIS is toolboxes which is basically a collection of tools bundled together. I know how to make toolboxes, but the code I have runs within Arc itself - ie. currently it only runs when you actually start Arc up and run a tool which makes the toolbox.
In theory the code should be able to run outside of Arc and ideally I want it to run at compile time. I know you can run executables as pre and post build events when building the installer so I was thinking I could make it build the toolbox as part of one of these. Catch is, the executable code would need to have access to the compiled files of my project (it needs a link to each tool to build the toolbox) so I can't make the executable in a seperate project. The current project is a class library. Is there a way to run code within my project when building the installer?

I'm using Visual Studio 2005 (college only has 2005 so..) and I have a very important program to write for college. My problem is, every time I try to compile I get the error: "Error while trying to run project: Could not load file or assembly "Program" or one of its dependencies. The given assembly name or codebase was invalid." We're talking a very simple program - I've only been learning for a few weeks.

Explanation of Build verse Publish Compile in simple english. I have my first appication I want to now deploy. I have been reading about Clickonce and it looks like a nice solution for my project. I actually tried it already but I recieved an error message "forbidden" I think there is an issue with my hosting site? Anyway I have been reading and am a bit confused to these different terms. Is build what I would use if I want to add-in a set-up / installer package with program with an exe file, sort of like the traditional way of handing someone a disk and they install it on there machine? Publish appears to what is used for the click once, but I dont think thats the only thing. I can publish to a disk? It looks like I can publish to my own computer until i figure out my website issue and test the program from there?

I am creating a dll that a third party application runs. When I create a dll from scratch and not a base dll that they gave to me, the code does not automatically compile when I click the f5 (run debugging). Is there a setting that is project specific that would cause this behavior?I use the "start external program" option for debugging.

Ok, the basic situation: Due to a few mixed up starts, a project ends up with not one, but three separate databases, each containing a portion of the overall project data. All three databases are the same, it's just that, say 10% of the project was run into the first, then a new DB was made due to a code update and 15% of the project was run into the new one, then another code change required another new database for the rest of the project. Again, the pertinent tables are all exactly the same across all three databases.
Now, assume I wanted to take all three of those databases - bearing in mind that they can't just be compiled into a single databases due to Primary Key issues and so on - and run a single query that would look through all three of them, select a given set of data from each, then compile those three sets into one single result and return it to the reporting page I'm working on.

I have created a resource directory loaded with 10 mp3 files in it and added it to the resources tab. The problem I am having is when the program is compiled and installed, it does not add the resource directory to the hard drive. I know that resources can be added into the applications files in the publish tab but cannot seem to figure out how to get it listed or added in there.I also took each mp3 and set the build action to Embedded Resource... That didnt help much though. The resource directory i want to include in the deployement is in my bin/debug/resources in the solution explorer.

I'm trying VB.Net for the first time, and I must say, after spending two hours pulling my hair out (literally!) and trying one thing after another, I am severely disheartened. I just want to compile a simple .vb file.
I used notepad to create a helloworld file. Then my problems started. The book I'm using told me to use a command prompt, and enter:
vbc helloworld.vb
No dice, though. The vbc command was kicked out by the command prompt. I installed Microsoft Visual Basic 2008, and tried again. No dice. Double checked to make sure I had all my updates - check, but still nothing. So I just went ahead and double clicked the the helloworld.vb file. It displayed the text, but still didn't compile, and it wouldn't even allow me to debug it.

My senior project is a program that converts the "Pseudo Code" to a "C++ code" , I finished from the Parsing part and everything is going good with me ..
The C++ code will be saved into a file with ( .CPP) extension , copy this code and open it in (Borland C++ pogram as an example ) so the user will Run it easy with C++ Compiler ?!
The idea is that the user can also test the result of the converted code
