How do I set button1.image to the image resource named in a string?

Is there an easier way to do this?

I want to have a string that contains the name of a particular button, and then use that string to access a particular button.
1) Dim button_string as string = "cmd_A1"
2) Dim current_button as button = [the button named in button_string]
3) current_button.text = "♖"
How do I do step 2?

How can you save a user input string to a resource? I want the user name that the user enters to be saved to a resource so that another form can use it. Or if using a module would work better, how would I do that?

I need to refer to some strings using an "indirect string" in the registry. It should be in this form:

MSDN: "If the resource value is zero or greater, the number becomes the index of the string in the binary file. If the number is negative, it becomes a resource ID."How can I find out either of these numbers for my resources that only have names in VB? I also need the ID/index for the exe's icon.
Suppose if the user selects an image which is bigger than the size of the button, then i want it to autosize the image so that it fits the button I am providing an OpenFileDialog to the user to select the image for the button
View 4 RepliesI'm developing a windows application using vb.net (VS 2005 and windows XP) I've set images (transparent png files) to buttons.I do it importing images into the resources of the project I could do it for most of the buttons of this project, but today I noticed new images I set, not showing in run time. In the development form I can see all images on buttons, but when I run the application, buttons with new images are missing. This happens to the new images I import and set as button images. I tried few times new images I set are not showing.

I have created a program that has 5 radio buttons and each button is named after a city. When clicking these buttons a picture of a landmark of that city comes up. However, I would like to enable my "clear" button.I have found a couple of examples such as;

Scenario: FormA has a DataGridView with a DataTable as it's DataSource. The DefaultView of the DataTable is set to a particular filter, say "UnitFreight < 2.00". The user selects multiple rows then selects a context menu item to open up form2. Form2 does a bunch of stuff and in this example it will change the UnitFreight value in the selected rows on form1 to say 2.27. It also raises an event in form1 to adjust attribute cells such as UnitPrice.
The issue is that doing the above example puts the selected rows out of the range of the applied filter and I believe this is the issue because I end up getting a "Column named UnitPrice cannot be found" error. This is happening during the update of those attribute columns. I'm guessing the row has been filtered out so there's no column to be found. If I do the update without the filter applied it works fine. So my question is, what's the best approach to updating the data in this situation. I've started converting the updates to work against the DataTable directly instead of the DataGridView.

Now, how can I get images in this MemoryStream-way from a DLL resource?
The basic problem: If I use simply the "bitmap.UriSource = whatever uri" way and load many images in sequence like an animation it builds up the memory. I tried with the above memorystream way and it worked perfectly fine, but then I store my images in a dll and I don't know how to do this trick. If anybody knows how to read many images from a managed dll without building up the memory
Is this possible? I dont want to include a folder of all the images.I want to be able to take an image from the resource and export it to a file.

I cannot seem to get my image resources to load into PictureBox1.I can see all the images I added as resources in the solution explorer.They are a series of PNG files with names associated with countries.I am at the beginning stages of randomly changing the image that is displayed in PictureBox1, but I cannot even get the first image to load.Here is my code so far. When I click on Button2 I can see that my array returns a random country, but no image loads.I even tried typing in several of the countries names as well as the country name followed by png (e.g. chine.png) and again no image loads.

I found out the problem and it seems to be two of the images are not loading even though i have saved them in my application folder.. But when i save them in the resource folder the program runs but does not displays the images stored in the resource folder.

Dim test = My.Resources.MyImage
Dim logo = Image.GetInstance(test)
This an error though:
'GetInstance' cannot be called with these arguments
It appears as though it expects a path, and is getting a System.Drawing.Bitmap type.
Is there any way that I can add a project resource image to my PDF?
