i want to read/write to some files.Specifically my application searches text files but i also want it to search binary files. The problem is : how will i know when the file is binary and not text ? Also how will i get the hexademical contents of a binary file ?[URL]

Im trying to read and write to a file in binary.to give an example of what im trying to do i have posted a picture below.the string is 12 bytes long and each four bytes has a float.the one in red is set at 1 and green and blue are 0 giving the read as the overall color. i have been trying to get this well i tried once and gave up but its been awhile.i have this so far but it doesnt work. this is kinda what i got to read the bytes out but its messed for i have been trying everything i could think of

So, I gathered a File class is provided, but looking at its methods list in the Help page, I see no method for writing individual bytes (and the Write methods seem to close the file after writing).
How can I write a byte array into a file, keep it open and repeat this as necessary?
What do you think what is faster:
1. writing 1000 records in a binary file on a server? or
2. passing the same 1000 records in a database on a server?
and
1. search a specific record in a binary file? or
2. search the same specific record in a database file?

View 9 RepliesI am trying to use the following stmt in VB and I am getting an error: Open (objFiles(lngLoop)) For Binary Lock Read Write As #hndZip_File On the "Open" word I am getting "Open is not declared. File I/O functionality is available in the Microsoft Visual Basic namespace." On the "For Binary Lock Read Write As #hndZip_File" I am getting "End of statement expected" I originally thought I had to add "Imports Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileIO" but this did not do anything.

-Open file as binary
-Start with position 57 and read the following characters until a 0 is found, print the whole name
Inside the binary file, all the files' names end with 0 (which should not be printed), example:
B000000.dat0
eft.dat0
G000000000.b70
For the above examples, the names that should be printed are B000000.dat, eft.dat, G000000000.b7 respectively. The code I wrote is below. The problem is that i am not sure how to read the name until the 0 is found since the names are variable in length and so are the extensions(dat, b7). Also some names have 0 in them which makes things difficult.

I want to develop an application which can Write, Save, Read text files(or html files) What I want the application to do is. When I open my application I can write stuffs and then it will save it to my hosting/server. Then, the application will read the text which I already save.. So far, I can only make the application read it by using WebBrowser control and navigating it to a specified URL. The first line is displayed in textboxA while the rest of the lines are displayed in textboxB. How do I accomplish this? Am I able to use the peek method for textboxB but somehow tell it to skip the first line? Now textboxB is obviously a multiline textbox and I want the user to be able to type something into another textbox (textboxC), press a button, and it will be displayed in textboxA. How do I make the text in textboxC get displayed on the first line of textboxA and move all the other lines down the list?

View 12 Repliesi am using visual studio 2005 on win 7 with office 2007. i have developed win application. i am using microsoft activex spreadsheet component in my program. so it automatically creates reference to AxInterop.OWC11.dll When i run program in debug mode (open program and click RUN in toolbar it works) but if i run directly .exe (go to bin elease doubleclick .exe) it give error at loading point of that component. It says "Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory has been corrupted." An unhandled exception occurrs.
