VS 2005 Read A File From Embedded Resources?
Mar 13, 2010
I'm having trouble with reading a file from embedded resources.
I'm starting to learn about developing applications for eBay. You can pass queries to eBay in XML format, and receive replies back in the same format.
I have some examples of code to do this. Here's how the sample code loads an xml file, containing the query.
'Get XML Document from Embedded Resources
Dim xmlDoc As New XmlDocument()
Dim current_assembly As Assembly
[Code]....
I can't see any difference between the sample and my attempt.
The Assembly Name and Root Namespace in my project are both set to "Sample," just as in the original.
I've tried things like changing the filename and the namespace, but I still can't get it to work.

the story goes something like this:i have embedded resource file, a vbs script.i have an error when i use writeallbytes and it says dimensional error cannot be converted to bytes something like that so i decided to make a module instead of writeallbytes, what my program does is it writes the content of the script to textbox and after that this data will be written in a script and will be save on drive C: as .vbs.that is perfectly working on my codes

i have added 3 .png files [done.png, failed.png, busy.png] to my project & changed them to "embedded resource" [from this wht i understand is that they will be integrated within the exe hence eliminating the dependency on the actual location it is stored]
i have 1 picturebox on my form whose image i have to change as per the output of something else
this is wht my code looks like :
If text1.text = "Done" then
picturebox1.image = my.resources.done.png
end if
[Code].....
but it gives me error during run time.. am i using the right code ? or is there an alternate method for this ?

I am wanting to use a vnc installer as an embedded resource, and if the computer running the program does not have vnc installed then typing in a password will install vnc. I have tried everything I can think of and running the process from my computer works, however when ran on a different computer i get the error "File not Found". I am sure I am not calling the embedded resource correctly. I am using Process.Start(" ightvnc.exe /S")

I'm having some trouble trying to inherit a control that uses an embedded resource. The trouble is - this control uses me.GetType() instead of GetType(ControlName). Now when I try to use the derived control, it looks for the resources in the derived control's assembly, instead of the base control assembly, and obviously - doesn't find them.

After two days of looking I give up. The basic problem is that at the end of my program I need to be able to write out a text file and then read that same text file back in when the program restarts or reopens. The best and easiest way I have found to read in the file is to place the text file with in the Resources and use this code.
Dim ReadingIN As String = My.Resources.Mytext
So then I want to be able to change that string and then write it back out. Part of the problem is I want to be able to use this from a flash drive or a changing directory.
I have tried but it doesn't work
Dim WritingOut As String = ReadingIN + "Edited text"
Dim DirString As String = My.Resources.Mytext
If System.IO.File.Exists(TemperString) = True Then
[Code].....

I'm writing a console application in Visual Basic 2008 Express. I added several text files to my project as resources. Specifically... I went to my project's "Properties" page and selected the "Resources" tab. I clicked the "Add Resource" dropdown and chose "Add New Text File". I entered some simple text and saved the file as "Welcome.txt". I built the entire solution.n my code, I use console.writeline(My.Resources.Welcome) to display the text

I've copied the files albanyc.ttf and MTCORSVA.TTF into 'Resources' and set the 'Build Action' for both to 'Resource'. A label is set to one or other of these fonts dependent upon what is being displayed. This works fine on this PC but when I copy the program to my laptop it seems to me that neither font is used and the same 'other font' is used in stead of either of the ones I want to use. I tried setting the build action to 'Embedded Resource' but that made no difference and I got an error message when I tried 'Compile' (I kinda expected that, but thought it worth a try). Both CP and laptop have the same OS, Win.7 64bit, the only difference is that the PC has Pro. and the laptop Home P.

I'm having a problem where instead of reading a text file from the location string, I changed it to read the text file from the resource location and it breaks my program. I've also used the insert snippet method to get most of this code, so it is safe to say I don't know what is going on. [code]

I have an application that currently stores PDF files (and others) inside the database as BLOBs. The trouble with this method is that I've now got SQL Server databases in excess of 200 GB! I've finally figured out a way to still enable full-text search without needing to store the PDF files as BLOBs (yay! Adobe's iFilter isn't great.), but I'm having trouble designing the method for a client to get access to the files stored on the server's file system.
I want to place the files in a restricted directory on the server, so I can't simply pass a UNC path to the client and let them open the file from there either in a browser or using Process.Start(filename). I understand how that would work, but if that directory has user access granted, all sorts of security holes open up, right? So, what I'm thinking about is a way to have a SQL Server account that has read/write access to/from the protected file system directory. That way (in my mind), the SQL Server can take a file as it's loaded in through the import client (as a series of byte chunks) and write the file to that area of the filesystem. Then, when a file is requested, the SQL Server can bulk load the file into a varbinary(max) field and do whatever I want with it.
1. How can SQL Server take a stream of bytes and write them to a specified location on its local file system? (This is assuming that I want the import utility to be able to be run on a client machine and not require it to be run on the server itself.)
2. Is there any way to stream a varbinary(max) file to a web page out of SQL? I'm using a lot of PDF files that will have Fast Web View enabled, so if I can stream the bytes to a web page, the user will be able to see the first few pages of the document while the rest is loading. I thought about having the SQL Server read (bulk load) the file from the protected area and write it to an unprotected area just long enough to point a web browser to that location, then wiping the file, but that brings me back to #1 above and would THEN require me to be able to issue a delete command from SQL.

How would i read a textfile that is in My.Resources and put the whole document in a textbox for the user to see?
I figured i would need a IO.StreamReader and a IO.StringReader but cant figure out too much what to do with these.
I figured i could create a loop until it has read to the end of the document but there is no check called HasLineAvailable or something.
