VS 2005 Setwindowpos For Top Most Window Making Window Size Zero?
Oct 5, 2011
I have the following function that should make the window always on top of other applications.
Private Declare Function SetWindowPos Lib "user32" _
(ByVal handle As Long, ByVal hWndInsertAfter As Long, ByVal x As Long, ByVal y As Long, _
ByVal cx As Long, ByVal cy As Long, ByVal wFlags As Long) As Long
[Code]....
The problem is that it reduces the window size so that you can only see the title bar and min/max/close buttons. Also, even that does not stay on top of other windows.
I have used this function before on a windows 7 machine (instead of xp which this one is on) and it worked fine.

I am using the SetWindowPos to set a window to the front to capture it (not a window of my own application). However, this works from time to time & that is what worries me.
My declaration:

This does work, if just, let's say have forms open, but it doesn't when I minimize everything & get to the desktop (with that taskbar button). It also returns 1400 error a lot, even with running as administrator.
1. I have an array of windows handles (list of window handles) which are windows I want to minimize when I call the ShowWindow API. But when I call it it sometimes minimizes other windows which aren't the windows I had before. I'm guessing that window handles are changed when other windows are being opened, is there is any option to detect a window in other way? like identity or something like that?
2. I'm trying to change a window size by using the SetWindowPos, but the problem is that I'm using this API while I'm dragging a window which causes the window to change the size for a sec and then go back to the same size, how can I change the window size while I'm dragging it?
3. When a left mouse button is up I want to maximize a window, but when I'm using the ShowWindow API right after the left mose button is up it causes the window to maximize for a sec and then go back I could fix that adding a delay:[code...]
4. Another question, can anyone give me an example on how to put a window right behind other window? (I guess changing something in the Z order?) I already got the two windows handles.
im using vb.net to open IE and go to a website... i can figure out how to size the window, but not change the windows location on the screen... how can i make the IE window position always 0,0

I want to take a snapshot of the foreground window without using print screen key. So far the only think i can do with the foreground window is get its title but If i can get the size and location then I can get cordinates on where to set capture with graphics.copyfromscreen.
looking at some applications like excel and other ms office programs got me wondering: how do you create an area where windows open in but don't appear as separate windows on the windows bar? Basically my question is, is there any way to create a window workspace where new windows are opened but don't appear as an entire new window?

I am using the following function and code to try to get the size of a client window in vb.net, I don't think I have any issues with my Rect structure. Why do I get this error: 'Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow.'
Private Declare Function GetClientRect Lib "user32" (ByVal _ hwnd As IntPtr, ByVal lpRect As Rect) As Boolean Dim lobbywindow As Long = windowhwnd Dim lobbyrect As New Rect GetClientRect(lobbywindow, lobbyrect)

make a window with a window. hit coded button/ and or image coded for a button. make visible. you can drag it around and make it work like you were using a window.
Update: the form 1 would have a image button that opens a form thats form would act like a window. like the ones you use when you open up a folder on your desktop. but it would minmize into the form 1 as an image button caching its info so you can pop it back up.
I am making an app that hides the topmost window, but when i do this, it leaves no current window selected. how can i make the highest unselected window selected?
When I start working on a Project I like to change the size of the Properties Window. (I like to make it taller than it is by default). But each time I start a new Project the Properties Window goes back to the original shape/location. Is there a way that I can customize the layout of that window so that the shape is retained across sessions?
I am starting a Console (3rd party application) with a New Process in vb.net. I simply want to size the window when it loads. All the APIs have not worked, SetWindowPos, MoveWindow, etc... need to work in all versions of Windows. Anybody have solid code that does this?
I'm a new user of Visual Studio 2008. While I am a fan of Tabbed Browsing, I am in no way a fan of Tabbed Programming, so I have my "Window Layout" set to "Multiple Documents".However, I have been horrified to find that the default window size for any form or module opened is about 9/10ths of the work space. When I resize the window and close it, it opens back up again to 9/10ths of the work space. This is going to very seriously impact my work flow. There has to be some kind of mistake. I've looked for a way to set the default window size, but to no avail. I've searched the web for 3rd party plugins that would let me have more control over the IDE, but also to no avail. Is there some way to set the default window size in Visual Studio 2008? It would seem remarkably amateurish to not provide this extremely basic functionality.
I want to make my own little chat room window. [url] But I want to do a post or something to log-in. Not just filling out the form values one by one. I've looked at some sources, but I'm overly confused. Anyone have some direction to help guide me, or even some examples?
I have a rectangle that I dynamically draw in a Window. Said Window has a background with it's opacity set to 0.4. I'd like to make the area inside the rectangle completely transparent (see what's behind the window).
Here is the code of my Window : <Window x:Class="TakeAScreenzone" xmlns="[URL]" xmlns:x="[URL]" Title="PloofTAS" Height="355" Width="539" Topmost="True" [Code] .....
Is there a way to programmatically change the font size of a console window? I know that you can right click on the window's button in the taskbar and click on properties.... but is there a way to do it on a per-application, per-use basis, and do it programmatically?
This is a program in vb.net, but I'm planning to use an outside process by using system.diagnostics.process.start("C:Otherprogram.exe") Now what I want to do is to resize the default size of window of outside process, can I do that?So that only the things that will be needed by the user can be seen?

What I am doing is making a Media Player, but I am making it to be some sort like BS Player.
The Video part of the player is on its own with no border and then there is going to be a separate Form for the controls. (I might need help with that later) But the first thing that I have to do is make the window movable and re-sizable by dragging the Media Player (WMP). WMP is taking up the whole screen of the Form so there is no where to click on the original Form. If possible, I would like it to show contents while dragging, ignoring the Windows Appearance and Performance. If that can't be done or is to much work, I will settle for just the border of the Form being showed while moved.
For re-sizing, the media player has to stay the same size as the form, but it also has to stay the same Ratio of the video. So as long as I can specify the current height and width of the window and also get then get the width while the window is being re-sized, I can get the height that the window needs to be by using this formula.
Window.y / Window.x * Sized Window.x = New Window.y .
I know that may sound complicated or maybe I am making it harder then it actually is, this is just how I know how to do it. I will explain what each variable in the Formula means.
Window.y is the current height of the window
Window.x is the current width of the window
Sized Window.x is the width of the window while it is being re-sized
New Window.y is the final height for the new size of the window
Am devloping an application with multiple forms, which reside on top of a main form. i.e the main application window. The 'child' forms do not need to be linked in any way as they do not pass information to the parent form, as all the parent form does is act as main window. Now I would like to know what is the correct way for the 'main window' form acting as a container for the other forms? So that all the smaller secondary forms stay focused on top of the main application form, that when the main window is minimized, so these forms should do also etc..
I have read other posts and they mention, leaving all the forms standard i.e. IsMdiContainer = False and then using form.showDialog() to call the secondary forms. This did not work for me as what happens is that as soon as I give focus to the main app form, the secondary form disappears underneath.I tired making the main app form IsMdiContainer = True and when it loads calling:
frmMemberForm.MdiParent = Me
Now this works, because I can click off the form and minimize the app etc and the frmMemberForm doesn't disappear. However if i close the MemberForm and reopen it, it looses this property and once again when it looses focus, it will disappear.
No matter what I've done, I can't make my application window the size and position saved in the registry. Below is the code at the end of my Form1_Load: [code]
