The problem is that it reduces the window size so that you can only see the title bar and min/max/close buttons. Also, even that does not stay on top of other windows.
I have used this function before on a windows 7 machine (instead of xp which this one is on) and it worked fine.

looking at some applications like excel and other ms office programs got me wondering: how do you create an area where windows open in but don't appear as separate windows on the windows bar? Basically my question is, is there any way to create a window workspace where new windows are opened but don't appear as an entire new window?

Update: the form 1 would have a image button that opens a form thats form would act like a window. like the ones you use when you open up a folder on your desktop. but it would minmize into the form 1 as an image button caching its info so you can pop it back up.

View 8 RepliesAm devloping an application with multiple forms, which reside on top of a main form. i.e the main application window. The 'child' forms do not need to be linked in any way as they do not pass information to the parent form, as all the parent form does is act as main window.Now I would like to know what is the correct way for the 'main window' form acting as a container for the other forms? So that all the smaller secondary forms stay focused on top of the main application form, that when the main window is minimized, so these forms should do also etc..
I have read other posts and they mention, leaving all the forms standard i.e. IsMdiContainer = False and then using form.showDialog() to call the secondary forms. This did not work for me as what happens is that as soon as I give focus to the main app form, the secondary form disappears underneath.I tired making the main app form IsMdiContainer = True and when it loads calling:
frmMemberForm.MdiParent = Me
Now this works, because I can click off the form and minimize the app etc and the frmMemberForm doesn't disappear. However if i close the MemberForm and reopen it, it looses this property and once again when it looses focus, it will disappear.
I am making a exe application and i am using mysql as my database. So the thing is, when i change to a new computer, i need to change the file path for the database connection string to that computer.

My code is basically a file parser/editor and it handles most files fine as they hold a handful of records concerning family members. However there are a few files that crash when trying to deal with them. Here is the problem.Each family member record creates 3 tabs that hold an average of 3 group boxes each. Each group box holds an average of 3 text boxes.So each member record creates 3x3x3 = 27 text boxes and some files get up to 289 family members which = 7803 text boxes.
The problem is the rare file with 400+ member records = 10,800 text boxes which causes a crash due to using up all the window handles. Each member has a separate tab page (with 3 subpages) but really only a dozen or so member pages are visible in the GUI with scroll arrows to move through them so I was thinking of somehow making the GUI a scrollable window so the tabs get built, displayed and disposed as the user scrolls left and right through the member tabs.
The files are parsed into a 3d list DataList(x,y,z) where x is the page number, y is the group box number and z is the text box number. So all the data is available. The code then traverses MyList and builds GuiList(x,y) where x is the page number and y is the groupbox number with all the textbox.text linked to MyList(x,y,z) locations so all text changes are reflected in the MyList.
I already have a memberCount variable and I am thinking of building, say, the first 30 member tabs with the middle 10 being visible in the GUI. If the selected tab > 20, then dispose of the first 10 tabs and create tabs 30-40.I am thinking I will keep all the member tab pages so I don't have to deal with inserts and indexing problems but just dispose all the group boxes and text boxes for tab pages out of view. I already have a deep clone sub that clones members when the user wants to add a new family member and I am thinking I will have to add something similar when a tabpage is passed in for disposal, it traverses and disposes each text box, then disposes the group box for each group box on the tab page.Additionally, another routine will rebuild the group boxes from the data held in MyList(x,y,z) when a tabpage(x) is passed in.

I have a vb.net application which dials another computer and send message to it with the help of cdrvlibnet.dll . I want to deploy this in another computer. I tried following steps.
1. Added a new project with type as deployment project
2. then build the project
3. took the setup.msi to another machine and installed it.

1. The icon which created in the desktop and start menu is not running the exe, but pointing to desktop only.
I'm currently using MS Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition. My .NET Framework version is 3.5. I made an application in VS 2008 and it worked perfectly. However, when I ran it at my friend's place (who's got .NET Framework 1.1), it didn't run. Now, I know that the framework incompatibility is the issue.So, what I ask is, how do I code the application so as to make it run on Framework 1.1 as well while still using VS 2008?

View 2 RepliesI made the setup project for mt VB.NET Application, but when I take it to another computer for installation, the wizard does not show any window for specifying the path. It just asks to accept the license agreement and then starts installing/copying files. Later after installation and rebooting I see the shortcut but it does not start the program/application. It just goes to a folder.
