The query I have set is the following: [code] lastdate (string object) is a date (inside double quote) provided in the code. The code does not generate error but I get a screen which asks the date as input despite the fact that it has already been provided in the code. [code]

VS 2005 Parameterized Query Update?

May 15, 2009

As you may have seen in my other post, I have to switch over an all text SQL statement based database interaction program to using parameterized queries instead.I remember doing it this way in college but I don't seem to be able to recall one part of it. The program I wrote back then and some code samples here both point to doing the code as I did so far:

m_strSQL = "UPDATE [OWNER DATA] SET [FIRST NAME] = @strFName"
m_strSQL &= ",[LAST NAME] = @strLName"
Dim upCMD As New OleDb.OleDbCommand(m_strSQL, m_Connection)
upCMD.Parameters.Add("@strFName", OleDb.OleDbType.Char, 30, "[First Name]")

[Code]...

it ran the SQL statement and that's that. Can I just do that with a parameterized query too without using the adapter.update()? And for bonus points, why the heck did I use that command in my old college program cuz I sure don't know?

Specify "%' In A WHERE Clause Of A Table Adapter Query?

May 4, 2010

I'm adding queries to a wizard generated Table Adapter with WHERE condition that involes the "%" wildcard:

SELECT * FROM Customers WHERE Country = @Country AND CustomerID LIKE @CustomerID

--If I add % after @CustomerID, I get an error message that the --query can't be parsed but if I run the query as above it returns all --the rolls irrespective the value I supplied for the CustomerID column.Only performance counts!

Syntax Error Referencing A Table Adapter Query

Jul 28, 2009

Using VS-2008, VB and SQL 2005 Developer:

I'm using Queries within the TableAdapter to grab certain data record field validations, most of them are using the Scalar Query to see if a certain condition returns a record or not.

I have one check I need to do that SUMs three fields and have tried it with both a Scalar and Regular Select, both return the results fine, my problem is creating the right syntax in the VB code to check the returned values.

Here's the Query Code in the Adapter (called GetInvoiceSum) and I pass it the cJobNum

SELECT sum(taxable) as taxable, sum(material+labor) AS subtotal, sum(tax) AS tax from ticket where jobnum = @cJobnum Here is the Code in the VB app - it gives me errors on the declaration and I've tried various types DataRow, DataSet, etc....not sure what I'm missing here and am very new at this....

Dim nSumTicket As DataSet = Me.TicketTableAdapter.GetInvoiceSum(cJobnum)

Table Adapter FIll Causing Error With Combo Box (Query)?

Jun 2, 2009

I have the following query that executes when my form loads. It's the rowsource for my combo box. The query is fine and populates the combo perfect, however, when i click into the combo box I cannot click out of it or even close the form. I have tried taking out the line of code that fills the form via table adapter on load and it works fine (opening the form unbound by the main table). Has anyone run into this before? I have another combo box on the form setup the exact same way and this is not happening. I've experimented with different datatypes etc....

code to populate combo box:

Public Shared Function LoadCallSource() As String
Dim sConnectionString As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=C:Documents and Settingsdiw07My DocumentsDaily Backupsphone memo backend.mdb"

[code]....

If I take out the line

Me.MemoTableAdapter.Fill(Me.Table_Memo.Tables("Memo"), intMemoID)

The Combo boxes do not act up or "Lock"

IDE :: VS 2005 IDE Does Not Recognize The Table Adapter In Code?

Mar 23, 2009

I copy/paste one datagridview from one form to another (different solutions) using two instances of VS 2005.The target form has the datagridview with all settings, including the DataSet and tableAdapter used by the original form. The datagridview also has all old settings. Everything is fine, it works as expected, with one drawback: every time I make any change in the target form surface, VS tells me that the dataset and the tableadapter are not defined and no longer loads the form in design mode giving errors mention that the dataset and the tableadapter are not defined. To be able to view the form surface in Design Mode, I have to edit the form.Designer.vb file and replace the references to the dataset and tableadapter as follows

Parameterized Query : Works With Execute Query But Not In Code?

Oct 22, 2009

I have created a parameterized query in my tableadapter. Here is the SQL:

SELECT CalcinerID, Comments, CorrectiveActions, CrucibleOxideWt, CrucibleWeight, DCPressure, DCTemperature,
Date, DischargePressure, FeedPressure, FiredCrucibleOxideWt, GmSampleWt, LIMSNumber, LotNumber, MaterialType,
OperatorID, QualLabOperator, QualLabTimeStamp, RecordID, ToteBinNumber [code]....

When I use the Execute Query button in the Tableadapter Query Builder, the query works fine; I get all the rows I expect. However, when I run this in my code, the query behaves like an equality statement (i.e. Lotnumber = @Lotnumber) rather than a LIKE statement (Lotnumber LIKE '%' + @Lotnumber + '%').Here is the code that is not behaving correctly. Note that I have a textbox, LotSearchTextbox, where I enter the portion of the Lotnumber that I want to use as the filter. I also have a button, LotSearchButton:

Private Sub LotSearchButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles LotSearchButton.Click
Try
Dim SomeNumber As Integer = Me.LotCalcinerO2TableAdapter.FillByLotNumber(Me.CalcinerDBDataSet.LotCalcinerO2,[code].....

why the query works in the Query Builder but not in the code?

SQL - Parameterized Query Not Working

Apr 15, 2012

statement = "SELECT OrderID, (SELECT VendName FROM Vendors WHERE Vendors.VendorID = Orders.VendorID) " &
",OrderDt, RcvdDt, OrderTotal " &
"FROM Orders " &
"WHERE VendName=? " &
"ORDER BY OrderDt DESC"
Dim cmd As New OleDbCommand(statement, connection)
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("VendName", txtVendorFilter.Text)
Dim reader As OleDbDataReader = cmd.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior.Default)

I was trying to do this before by simply concatenating the textbox value right into the SQL and I was getting a "No values given for required parameters", and read that that I should use parameterized queries instead. So I tried this and it doesn't give me any errors, but the reader never has anything in it. I've never used parameterized queries before, so I'm a bit lost as to why this isn't working. I've changed the above code to account for OLEDB from what I briefly read on how it should work, and it's giving me the "no values given for required parameters" again.

VS 2010 - Automated Insert SQL Query Parameterized?

Jul 13, 2011

I wrote this little function to allow me to pass an ArrayList of Strings and then based on the table passed to pre-build a SQLCommand like so
INSERT INTO table` (`column`,`column`) VALUES (`value1`,`value2`);

The function for this is here:
Public Function _SQLInsertBuilder(ByVal values As ArrayList, ByVal Table As String) As String
Dim commandString As String
Dim columns As ArrayList = GetTables(Table)
commandString = "INSERT INTO `" & Table & "` ("
For Each column As String In columns
[Code] .....

Now I know that much like mysql_real_escape_string() VB.NET has a Parameter ability to make querys safer. How could I parameterize the values during the build of the string.

Why Does Sql Command Work As String But Not As A Parameterized Query

Jul 22, 2011

[code]Myself and a coworker have stared at this quite a lot and we can't figure out why it's not working. The problem is in the value for @ID (since it still works when I leave the other one parameterized). The funny thing is, Just a few lines of code above it I have a different query that sets a parameterized value for the same ID, using the the same choices list that the For Each loop is getting the match variable from.Choices is a list of longs, and when I use choices(0) to parameterize ID in a query, it works. But now down here in this loop I have the new match long, and it doesn't want to make it work for me.

I created an INSERT query for a table in the dataset designer which is working.
