VS 2005 Tell If Pixel In Bitmap At Position Is Transparent?
Dec 19, 2009
I have a bunch of PNG images in my project's resources. I need to find out whether the pixel at any X,Y is transparent or not. Testing the alpha of the color returned by GetPixel doesn't work, and I can't test it against the transparency key because Bitmap objects only have a MakeTransparent method, for some strange reason. Is there a way to tell?

how can i create a monochrome bitmap from a semi transparent bitmap in vb.net? the bmp is for a transparency mask image for an icon i'm trying to create with the CreateIconIndirect API function.
i'm using vb2008 .Net3.5, but i would prefer an answer that would also work in vb2005

during the development of my project, i've fall in the need to change the position of some forms, pixel by pixel using a timer.Now, i've checked that the movement is very fluid when form is not very heavy, when it contains few elements, but when it has a lot of elements inside, the movement becames nervous and not fluid, the movement becomes jerky.

I've got a function that's supposed to extract and return a 32x32px bitmap from a larger bitmap which has a set of 32x32 tiles inside it.
Here's the code I have now, but it's wrong since the Tile.GFX_Pos properties are telling it where in the destination image to draw, not where in the source image to draw from.
Overloads Shared Function TileGFX(ByVal SrcGFX As Bitmap, ByVal Tile As TileDef) As System.Drawing.Bitmap
Try
[Code]....
So since this doesn't work, what I'm wondering is if anyone knows a good way to select where in the SrcGFX bitmap to blit from, instead of (as currently and incorrectly) selecting where in the destination bitmap to blit to.

I am trying to make an application that can do effects to images but the problem is when I use large photos its takes a very very long time. I am reading it per pixel with bitmap's GetPixel and SetPixel methods. Is there anyway to make this process faster without using C# or C++?

I have a small 10px by 10px image, and I want to use VB.NET to find out if that image is (an exact) part of a larger image.I thought a method of doing this would be to lock the bits of the larger image into memory and then loop through each pixel in the image and for each pixel, I could take the 10px by 10px section which is down and to the right of that pixel.. and then compare it to my smaller image.
This is the code I have so far:
'Lockbits of larger image to memory
Dim bmp As New Bitmap(Image.FromFile(System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory() & "picture.bmp"))
Dim pxF As PixelFormat = PixelFormat.Format24bppRgb
[code]....
when I'm looping through the 10 by 10 section and I find the R G B bytes for each pixel, how do I store this in my rawImage array so I can convert it to a back bitmap and compare it with my original small 10by10 image?

I've been looking around on the internet for something to do this, but I have not found anything straightforward. Can anyone help? I just want to draw an image that pretty much "Highlights" an area in a bitmap. Anyone know how to do that?

In Vb6 you could make a private type by doing the following:
Private Type PointAPI
X As Integer
y As Integer
End Type
Vb.Net doesn't support this. I need it to store the x and y position of a certain pixel. I know i could just declare an x and y variable but i would rather use something like:
xyCentre.X = 5
xyCentre.Y = 10

I have a form with two overlapping images. The images are exactly the same size and location on the form. The upper image is a GIF and is set to transparent. I have set the lower image as a parent of the upper as follows:
Me.PictureBox4.Parent =
Me.PictureBox1
The transparency works fine but for some reason the upper image moves to the lower right of the parent image when I run the program.

Apologies as this has probably been answered a million different times a million different ways already. I'm trying to control the mouse. I wish to move the mouse to a given pixel position (x, y) and cause a click. I don't want this to be limited within a form, as I want to control another application. I'm using VB 2005.

I would like to load a GIF file, and start with the first pixel and check to see if that pixel color is closer to Black, Red, Green or Yellow, then take what ever color it closest matched to and output that color as a number, 0, 1, 2 or 3. So just for a small example a 5x4 GIF would be converted to something like this: 0112223322220111332?

I want to add some text to a photo (held in a bitmap) but rather than write over the photo itself I want to add a small black bar to the bottom of the image and write some white text in it.
e.g. a 640 x 480 photo becomes 640 x 510 with the black bar at the bottom.

I have tried this question several times, sometimes a little in the face of MS VB teams but with no constructive answers. Perhaps with too much rant. I suspect that VB.NET does not allow me to do what I can easly do in VB5.0. The VB team should easily be able to supply the information I need, but have not yet answered the questions. I want to do a lot of work on very large bitmaps (20 Mp or more; 80Mb or more ARGB) using arrays for access. This I used to do in VB5.0 using the SAFEARRAY and BITMAP STRUCTURES. NOT the corresponding .NET CLASSES. But I now need to use an SDK requiring .NET. However, through lack of wisdom, the VB team dropped 5 critical resources on the move to VB.NET - VarPtr, VarPtrArray, the 2 structures and CopyMemory. The SAFEARRAY CLASS seems to lack a set method for array data and the BITMAP CLASS seems to lack both get and set methods for data. On building a .NET solution using VB.NET, c#.NET and C++.NET projects I could not locate the set and get methods. Interop could not upgrade my VB5.0 to VB2005 - presumably on account of these 5 problems. I was surprised that even C++ suffered too. .NET hurts. So, first off, two critcal simple questions: A) Bearing in mind that much of the .NET is tinsel-wrapped APIs, does a pointer to an array still point to a defining SAFEARRAY STRUCTURE of the original format (NOT of course to a first element of an array). If that is so, I am lucky for I can then fill and use (perhaps) my own SAFEARRAY STRUCTURE by memory manipulation in C++. B) If the same applies to a bitmap pointer I can then perhaps do the same with BITMAP STRUCTURES. If that can be done I can hopefully work in a .NET solution containing C++ (for the pointer and mmory work) and VB2005 (for the rest of the work). I can then 1) in VB define two empty byte-arrays GLOBAL in VB.NET- Pic1() and Pic2(). They do not need to be dimensioned. SAFE FROM GC 2) in VB define two GLOBAL SAFEARRAYS to match the arrays, one with one and another with 2 dims matching the bitmap in size. SAFE FROM GC 3) move ByRef the 4 objects to VC++. STILL SAFE FROM GC, LEFT EXACTLY WHERE THEY WERE. 3) copy the BITMAP data pointers to the data pointers of the SAFEARRAYS. DOES NOT MOVE ANYTHING. 4) copy the addresses of the SAFEARRAYS to the corresponding arrays STILL DOES NOT MOVE ANYTHING, BUT JOB DONE. And then I will be able to process the images in seconds rather than minutes after moving only 4 4-byte numbers. I would welcome alternative sequences, provided they DO NOT involve put and set pixels or array elements on the trivial side and do not involve moving 80Mb of image data between "safe" and "unsafe" memory on the Herculian side. Else, as the Pic() ans Safearrays MUST point somehow to structures, WHAT EXACTLY ARE THEY, AND WHERE? I want to access them. If I can't overcome these 5 silly MS blunders I'll just have to build two uncoupled projects - one in VB5.0 and the other in VB/VC++ .NET. I'm not going to get involved myself with tinsel and gladwrap workarounds.

there is 1 problem that i keep trying to sort out but cant quite do it, this is in a form is there a way to make the background to it transparent? thus see all the pictureboxes, buttons, labels,etc. inside the form but not the form itself? the only things i can think of is opacity and visible however those just don't show anything in the form at all. if I try change the backcolor to transparent it ends up with an error as to what i can understand(correct me if i'm wrong) only controls and childs can have transparent backgrounds.

There is no BackStyle property in Visual Basic 2005 ... But I read in MSDN that changing the BackColor of label control will make the background of label control Transparent ... So we'll be able to see through the label control ... I changed the BackColor property to Transparent but it didn't work for me ... BackColor changed to Transparent ... But still I ain't able to see the image behind the label control ... (PictureBox) ... Background color of label still remained the background color of Form i.e. Control color ...

How can I find out the pixel colour of a certain point on a web browser. For instance,WebBrowser1.getPixelColor(0,0) would get the rgb colour value of pixel 0, 0.It doesn't have to be rgb it might be hsl or whatever.The web browser is showing a local web page that is hosted on a network. If there is an error then the screen goes all grey. What I want to do is, if this does happen, display an alert message like - "An error has occurred
