Mar 6, 2009I'd like to make a custom control that allows the end user to format the text, similar to an HTML or RichText control. The idea is that it will be static like a label, but allow end user to specify certain tags around words to make them bold, italic, underline, hyperlink, etc, either at design time or runtime. My question more specifically is how to best approach this. My intention is to use GDI+ methods, like DrawString, etc. But my concern is the inefficiency of having to parse the text each Paint cycle to determine which tags are present in order to use the correct font style, etc. I'm not really asking HOW to do this, but more of a hint on which architectural approach to take on this. Maybe there is already some examples of this out there?

Oct 26, 2009OK, for those that saw my previous one, this one is different than that, much different.The program I'm making is basically an offline, open source Po, which will allow for people to create their own Databases of Pon, even custom ones, without any hex editing as long as they use the program to create the files. developing a custom format for my program, the ".pid" format, which stands for "Pokex Information Data-File". Yes, I know it's for Poon, but it's a program I promised to end with, and I'm also kinda doing this for myself (Still being a fan of the game series.)w, the file format is done something like this:

Oct 20, 2009The file format has already been explained to me, and I can easily view it in notepad to understand it. It's basically a text file with a fancy extension and what not. The only problem is that I need to read it and pull a certain span of data from it.Here's the basic format:

This is the first 10 lines, which is useless data for me. However, right after the first 10 lines, is a span of an unknown quantity of lines that I do need that are formatted like so:grassC:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesHalo Custom itiondatalevelsestlood_creekitmapslood_creek groundThe first line is the name of a bitmap assigned to the ID, while the second line is the path to the bitmap.Finally, after the unknown span of lines, there are two lines that go in this order:01Which I can safely assume at this point that the list no longer needs to be read.What I need to do is be able to open this file, skip over the first 10 lines which are completely useless, and then pull out the unknown gap of lines, and then stop reading when the line is '0', or at the end of the list.

Write Custom HTML Document To File?
May 2, 2011What is the best way to write data from a hierarchical set of objects to a file? The highest order parent has 1000's of children all with children (DOM style). Trying to traverse the tree and creating one big string which is then written to a file is throwing an out-of-memory exception while creating the string.
Details I've created a set of classes that make up an HTML document. There was control that I needed that the pre-packaged HtmlElement and HtmlDocument didn't give. The Document Object Model is maintained throughout, with some similar methods and properties and such. I'm using the custom classes to create a very large HTML document. When I say large, I mean on the order of over 2000 printed pages. It's doubtful that they will all be printed, but some will be.
My base HTMLElement object, from which all other objects are derived, contains an OuterHTML property which, as expected, gets the full HTML of the calling object and the HTML of all child elements. After the code which generates the report runs, I have my HTMLDocument object containing the entire report which needs to be written to a file. Here is where I keep running into problems.
If I call OuterHTML on the HTMLDocument object, I get an out of memory exception.
Other reports have saved fine, but this is by far the largest report I've thrown at my HTMLElement object. My assumption is that the property call is generating too much text.
I am basically just creating a new .HTML file, opening it for reading, and writing in all of the text. Like:
File.WriteAllText(FileName, HtmlDoc.OuterHTML)

C# - Custom XML Serialization, Write Custom Root Element?

I'm invoking the serialization by calling xmlserializer.Serialize(writer,Me) so I'm sure that has something to do with it.I've tried putting XMLRoot onto the class, but I think as vb is compiling this partial class with its aspx page, it's either overwriting this property or ignoring it entirely.I'd like to just tell it to either throw away everything it has and use a different root element.

and I want to edit the value 4375 in line 02 (pos. 4-7) to be 4376.I know I can read it with a streamreader, and write to the end or entire file with streamwriter, but how can i read and write at the same time?
Downloading the entire file to a string and then recreating is NOT an option.

May 17, 2011I want to write a line into a text/.cfg file. The line is = name "ishtiak". I need a sapce between name & "ishtiak". The text "ishtiak" is loading from a textbox called textbox1. I dont want in the text box my name like this "ishtiak" it will be without "" like this ishtiak
but in the text file it will add "" before & after my name.
So the question is
1. How to add space between name & "ishtiak"? like this = name "ishtiak"
2. My textbox text will be ishtiak,but it will be written like this "ishtiak"

VS 2005 Using VB Through SQL To Read/write To/from File System?
May 21, 2009I have an application that currently stores PDF files (and others) inside the database as BLOBs. The trouble with this method is that I've now got SQL Server databases in excess of 200 GB! I've finally figured out a way to still enable full-text search without needing to store the PDF files as BLOBs (yay! Adobe's iFilter isn't great.), but I'm having trouble designing the method for a client to get access to the files stored on the server's file system.
I want to place the files in a restricted directory on the server, so I can't simply pass a UNC path to the client and let them open the file from there either in a browser or using Process.Start(filename). I understand how that would work, but if that directory has user access granted, all sorts of security holes open up, right?So, what I'm thinking about is a way to have a SQL Server account that has read/write access to/from the protected file system directory. That way (in my mind), the SQL Server can take a file as it's loaded in through the import client (as a series of byte chunks) and write the file to that area of the filesystem. Then, when a file is requested, the SQL Server can bulk load the file into a varbinary(max) field and do whatever I want with it.
1. How can SQL Server take a stream of bytes and write them to a specified location on its local file system? (This is assuming that I want the import utility to be able to be run on a client machine and not require it to be run on the server itself.)
2. Is there any way to stream a varbinary(max) file to a web page out of SQL? I'm using a lot of PDF files that will have Fast Web View enabled, so if I can stream the bytes to a web page, the user will be able to see the first few pages of the document while the rest is loading. I thought about having the SQL Server read (bulk load) the file from the protected area and write it to an unprotected area just long enough to point a web browser to that location, then wiping the file, but that brings me back to #1 above and would THEN require me to be able to issue a delete command from SQL.

Nov 30, 2009I am trying to do a custom date format in VB.net using Format. The data coming in is "2009-10-03 00:00:00.000" and I want it to be "OCT 03 2009 12:00AM". I am using Format(object, "MON DD YYYY HH:MIAM") and am getting screwy results ... "2006-09-17 00:00:00.000" becomes "9ON DD YYYY 00:9IA9".

Part of my program takes images corresponding to other data from a certain area, chosen by the user, and moves them to another folder, for later use. I want to store the path for the image next to the other data, storing the path as a string. When no image is chosen, the variable for the path is simply "no image".

Jan 17, 2009I'm trying to write a program that will open a solidworks file in EDrawings and print it and so far the only way I can find to do that with an edrawings ActiveX Control displayed on my form.Does anyone know if it's possible to print drawings via EDrawings 2009 without the ActiveX Control having to be displayed on the form as that is drastically slowing down my program?
