View 3 RepliesI have an mvc intranet application using windows authentication. It currently has one controller with three actions.
The first action (index) should be available to everyone, this is no problem. The second and the third actions should only be available to users in a specific DOMAIN. However the tag only gives me 2 options: Roles or Users. I tried using Users and setting it to 'DOMAIN*' and 'DOMAIN?' but that doesn't work.
My company uses ActiveDirectory, and naturally the IT department wants to maintain control over it and not give control to other users. I'm developing an ASP.NET app (for internal use only) using an SQL Server 2008 database.My question is, how can I BEST use the .NET namespaces and SQL Server to manage access to the app within the organization at the application (or possibly DB) level? I would like the user to be authorized based on their network username as provided by ActiveDirectory.On a side note, I would also like to access their AD contact information.
From my understanding I can use the ActiveDirectoryMembershipProvider class or Domain Services in the System.DirectoryServices namespace. There's also LDAP which apparently is another possibility. I'm having a hard time making sense of it all, and much less which is the best option and how to implement it. Can anyone provide me with some direction and possibly some simple sample code?

2 timers
2 labels
1st label is "Clock" this pulls the time from the users current time zone/local time
2nd label is "UTCClock" Which would be UTC time
Now I have this for the first label: clock.Text = Format(TimeOfDay, "hh:mm:ss tt")
Which would give the users current time zone/local time. As for the UTC.. how would I add in for the UTC time from where the user is located at? I did some searches.. but couldnt find what I was looking for.. IM pretty sure its not as easy as getting the users current time zone/local time.. So im assuming that Theres a "bit more" code into getting UTC time..
On windows authentication (intranet web application). When the session is about to timeout, the client should be presented with a POP-UP that asks to click OK to extend the session or else cancel to timeout the session. Which is the better way to accomplish this task. By Using Ajax Call or By handling it in the code behind file when the session (userid) is nothing.

Everything works with the exception of if my program has launched the other program, my program become non-responsive. Meaning I am not able to look at that window again. Not that one really needs too, because when time is up my program closes the program it opened, then closes itself. I just want to be able to see my program when the other program is running. how to do this and perhaps drop me some links, that would be wonderful. This is what I have coded, but like I stated there are no code errors.

View 5 RepliesI am writing a program that accepts a user name and password (the password must show up as *s). The user gets three tries to enter the correct information before the program is closed. So far I have the password showing up as the password in clear text the first time and in *s the next two times. The authentication also fails even when I use the correct user name and password which are password and user for now.

I need to authenticate a user against LDAP/AD (windows 2008 r2) so I can leverage the domains password rules etc... I found code that will allow me to validate a users ID and Password entered into a form (using System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry) but my problem is if the user enters an invalid password more that AD is configured to allow, the account gets locked out. Is there anyway around this?
View 5 RepliesI have an app that, depending on what day it is, exports a few reports from accsess, then emails them using gmail.the app works from my machine - xp pro, test machine - Vista Ultimate, but neither of the machines that it is supposed to be working on remotely. All user names passwords, authentication method etc are correct as i don't believe they would work on a local or virtual machine otherwise.Remote machines are running Vista, they use the Gmail account that is programed in, the firewalls are off. error returned is simply "Failure sending mail"machine is of course connected to the internet and normally able to send and receive mail. code used (or at least a big chunk of ) below

I am trying to set up a new internal system for my client currently, they insisted on integrating the login with AD, which makes sense, and i have managed that with no problem. However what i also want to do, after authentication, is to store some user details / attributes as session variables. I have the following code to aithenticate the user:

Things works fine and i can get the username display in label.However,I need to get more user data like UserName, Fullname and RoleCode. Also, i would to display the user's fullname to instead of usename in welcome message. I was told this can be done using FormsAuthenticationTicket method to store addictional user data in the "my user data" section. Do i need to create a user data class to store the user data and then use it in the FormAuthenticationTicket? If yes, how should i do it?
I have an ASP.NET application with a SQL Server back end. I am storing all my dates in UTC format and doing the appropriate conversions to the local time zone of the browser viewing it. One of the pages asks for a start date and end date (no times).
I am taking the start date and setting the time to 00:00:00 hours (midnight) and I'm taking the End time and adding a time of 23:59:59, so that the date range covers the whole day. Now what I'm trying to do is do a SQL query to do a search for records in this date range. The problem is, the data in SQL is in UTC time and the user is typing their dates and times in their local date and times. My quickest solution was to convert the date and time to UTC, then search the records. However, by doing this, I am to believe ASP.NET converts the given time and date to UTC based on the server time zone. How can I convert a date and time to UTC time based on the time zone of the user?

User is not associated with trusted connection."By some googling I get the idea that I am using Windows authentication mode. So how can I change it to mix mode authentication? I am developing Client/Server application in Visual Basic 2005 with back-end SQL Server 2005 Database.I have lot a users to access to this application.I have a problem with accessing same record by two users on different machines at the same time.For example: Two user fetches the same record display on the machine.Now both have same data on the machine. The first user modified and saved the record and after some times another saved the data without modified or modifed some other columns. Now the last user who modifed the record contains the old data.
