Form Authentication Ticket To Store Additional User Data?
Aug 16, 2011
I am trying to implement login page using Form Authentication in ASP.net using vb code.I follow the steps in How To Implement Forms-Based Authentication in Your ASP.NET Application by Using Visual Basic .NET. I created a function in login page :
Private Function ValidateUser(ByVal strUsername As String, ByVal strPassword As String) As Boolean
and call it in btnLogIn_Click
Protected Sub btnLogIn_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnLogIn.Click[code].....
Things works fine and i can get the username display in label. However,I need to get more user data like UserName, Fullname and RoleCode. Also, i would to display the user's fullname to instead of usename in welcome message. I was told this can be done using FormsAuthenticationTicket method to store addictional user data in the "my user data" section. Do i need to create a user data class to store the user data and then use it in the FormAuthenticationTicket? If yes, how should i do it?
The company require an application that displays coffee usage information for the managers of CostaB Coffee. Sample data has been provided for last years (2011) monthly usage amounts in kilos and is as follows: 400.5, 450, 475.5, 336.5, 457, 325, 220.5, 276, 300, 320.5, 400.5 and 415.
Requirements: The main form will allow the user to enter and store monthly amounts in an appropriate data structure. It will enable the users to calculate the total usage for the 12 month period and average monthly usage. A further requirement for the application is for the users to be able to display the monthly totals in ascending (smallest to highest) and descending (highest to lowest) order of the monthly usage amounts. Utilise appropriate formatting for input/output and include appropriate error trapping and data validation in the application.
I'm making a login form in VB.NET, and I have a table in mysql called user. What I want to do is before a user can login the Administrator column of the user table must be TRUE and the DELETED column must be FALSE. I've tried everything I know but all non admin users are still able to login... Heres how the user table looks like:
I am coding a program that will allow the user to input 5 payrolls for Store 1, Store 2, and Store 3. The total of the 5 payrolls are then added together and shown in the respective Store's labels. A total label is also there to add up all the totals into one number. The numbers in the label must be in currency form. My problem is the numbers don't add correctly when I hit calculate. The first two numbers add together, but then after that the number just seems to subtract a random amount.
So far I have this --
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click Me.Close() End Sub
I want to store additional information about a listview item using a custom class, but I can't seem to get it to work.I'm currently using this code to accomplish something similar using a listbox item.I just want to do the same thing with a listview.
Public Class myListboxItem Public id As String Public rootFolder As String[code]....
I forgot to add "Inherits ListViewItem" to my class.I'll update the code listed here to serve as an example for others.
I'm creating a desktop application in visual basic using an online mysql database, i have the login script done but how would i save the users id into a session and then use there information for there profile page?
Since some of my users log on as non-administrators, (without administrator priveleges), where would you reccomend I store their programs data files. For example, the program Test Prog would store user data in: [code]The problems is permissions file access when they are not signed on as the administrator and they need read write access to their data files. Also is there a universal system directory name I could use so it would be the same on all users computers, like %Documents% or something?
I would like to develop a program to create a report after reviewing a facility's processes (Quality Issues). The reports are to be created using Microsoft Word 2010.
I'm OK with developing the forms and controls to access the form and the user inputs.
What I need guidance on is the best way to save the input information from the user forms (over 100 total) as it relates to that facility, and to retrieve the info in case clarification is needed. Also, each user may have several facilities to review.
I want to store some information of the form in such a way that if the user quit/exit the application it stores the information. When user runs the application next time the information should be available to him. It also involve the restart of the computer. The application is in vb.net 3.5 framework. The one way that i can think of using flat files and encrypted data, but i can not do this. I do not to store any kind of data on client side and I can not store this information on server side. The problem is of getting client machine information and storing it on server.
I am currently developing an application that will require each end user to specify a rather large set of tabular data specific to his/her own preferences. Each time the user starts the application, it will load this set of data.
what is the best way to store this data locally on the end user's local machine? Should I use XML, Access mdb, flat text files?
I use AES encryption in my vb.net 2008 windows forms apps to ....
1. Store user passwords in sql server express database in encrypted form
2. decrypt the encrypted Sql server express connection string password on the fly when connecting to SQl Server over a vpn or direct to web based sql server database
3. decrypt the encrypted ftp site password on the fly when my application connects to my ftp site to upload client's database backups
The issue I have is that the secret key for the encryption / decryption is hard coded within the encryption/decryption functions. So anybody who decompiled my application would be able to generate the same encryption, as they would have the encryption secret key How can you hide the encryption secret key so that if anybody decompiled my app they could not reproduce the decryption function
To improve performance, when one has many files to readwrite it is better to save them in smallergroup in different folders. Is there a magic number over which it is better to start splitting the folder? for example below "10.000" (invented number) files can be stored in one single folder, while above that it is better to start storing files in multiple folders.
I want to create a local data store for a login form and but I dont want to use MS access or SQL so what should I use? I thought about using induivual files like config files except they get kinda dificult after a while so then I thought about using XML which may work but I have found no really useful tutorials on this, if someone has a good tutorial?[code...]
I am writing a program that accepts a user name and password (the password must show up as *s). The user gets three tries to enter the correct information before the program is closed. So far I have the password showing up as the password in clear text the first time and in *s the next two times. The authentication also fails even when I use the correct user name and password which are password and user for now.
Public Class frmPassword Private Sub btnOK_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnOK.Click Static intCounter As Integer = 0 intCounter = intCounter + 1
I need to authenticate a user against LDAP/AD (windows 2008 r2) so I can leverage the domains password rules etc... I found code that will allow me to validate a users ID and Password entered into a form (using System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry) but my problem is if the user enters an invalid password more that AD is configured to allow, the account gets locked out. Is there anyway around this?
I have an app that, depending on what day it is, exports a few reports from accsess, then emails them using gmail.the app works from my machine - xp pro, test machine - Vista Ultimate, but neither of the machines that it is supposed to be working on remotely. All user names passwords, authentication method etc are correct as i don't believe they would work on a local or virtual machine otherwise.Remote machines are running Vista, they use the Gmail account that is programed in, the firewalls are off. error returned is simply "Failure sending mail"machine is of course connected to the internet and normally able to send and receive mail. code used (or at least a big chunk of ) below
Emaildays: 'now that we have the access reports exported, lets send them Dim Emails As New System.Net.Mail.MailMessage(My.Settings.frominfo,
I am trying to set up a new internal system for my client currently, they insisted on integrating the login with AD, which makes sense, and i have managed that with no problem. However what i also want to do, after authentication, is to store some user details / attributes as session variables. I have the following code to aithenticate the user:
'this function authenticates against AD - very simple and works nicely. Function AuthenticateUser(path As String, user As String, pass As String) As Boolean Dim de As New DirectoryEntry(path, user, pass, AuthenticationTypes.Secure)
[code]....
which works nicely, and once the function returns me a True, i set Session("LoggedIn") as True.what i need to do is (hopefully within the above function) save the user's name, and 2 other custom atributes from within the user's AD profile. How would i access those (hypothetically)
I'm am very new to Vb.net, I have coded in VBA.I have created a form that will open Microsoft Excel, add header text to the columns, and insert the text from a few of the controls located on my form ("not finished adding controls") when I click the Submit button.
My problem is that when I enter different data into those controls and click the submit button again, I get a new Excel Workbook with the new data.I need the new data the be submitted to the .Activecell.Offset(1,0) of the already open workbook.Ultimate Goal of Submit button is to open new Excel workbook, Enter multiple rows of data via Visual Basic Form.
I want to show tblProductComponents and have only the PercentValue the only value that can be updated. But, I also want to show the component information as well.I can do this in a view but then I lose the update ability using the tableadapter.
We have a big Form class that we like to split into peaces using partial class approach That could be done by manually modifying a project file, and adding MainFormPN.vb entry
The issue with this approach is when double click on this item in VS2008 IDE it shows new empty form, not MainForm UI. It looks like VS2008 does not support multiple partial classes for a Forms.
In this partial view I create new ViewDataDictionary to pass additional data to my editor. In the editor I access ViewBag.Classes and its value is null. However, when I debug I can see that the ViewBag contains "Classes" key. Here a screen dump:
Why is this happening to me and what can I do to pass this value from a partial to editor template?
i have a Checkedlistbox in a windows form, and have defined 5 values in it.Also the form holds a datagrid in it. i have manually defined 2 columns in it.Now i would like to populate datagrid with some data according to the check list values selection. When any selection was done in the checkedlistbox, some data need to added to the gird.in case if i am ticking further selection, i need the datagrid to be inserted with additional values with the prior populated data.
being a beginner, i am not able to get any idea to get this worked.
I have the following code being used, it is really useless for me as I can't get much info using it, is there any other way I can save the info when a user logs in to store it for the whole time until the program closes?
