Pass Additional Data In A ViewBag To EditorTemplate From Partial?

Mar 1, 2012

I have a partial view[code]...

In this partial view I create new ViewDataDictionary to pass additional data to my editor. In the editor I access ViewBag.Classes and its value is null. However, when I debug I can see that the ViewBag contains "Classes" key. Here a screen dump:

Why is this happening to me and what can I do to pass this value from a partial to editor template?

.net - Additional Partial Classes For A Form?

Sep 3, 2010

We have a big Form class that we like to split into peaces using partial class approach That could be done by manually modifying a project file, and adding MainFormPN.vb entry

<Compile Include="MainForm.vb">
<SubType>Form</SubType>
</Compile>
<Compile Include="MainForm.Designer.vb">

[code]....

The issue with this approach is when double click on this item in VS2008 IDE it shows new empty form, not MainForm UI. It looks like VS2008 does not support multiple partial classes for a Forms.

Pass Additional Parameters To Predicate?

Aug 20, 2010

My issue is to Find exact one Calendar object from a List Of(Calendar) by passing a particular date. I got to know about the predicate but not sure about passing parameter to it.

colorcode is List Of (Calendar) and calendar class has a property called DtmDate with which I want to compare and return the desired object. Dim a As Calendar = colourcode.Find(AddressOf New Calendar.FindByDate)

I got the predicate samples from Google and reached till now. But not sure how to pass my parameter i.e. date to it.

Asp.net Mvc - Isn't EditorTemplate Firing?

Nov 25, 2010

Here's the item from the View @Html.EditorFor(Function(model) model.BirthDate)

Here's the code from the EditorTemplate (simplified)

@ModelType Date?
<span>
@Html.TextBox("", Model)
</span>

[Code]...

Ok, so after some digging, I found that if I add <UIHint("Date")> to my BuddyClass, then the template works.

So my "new" question would be... why wouldn't it pick this up by default?

Adding Additional Rows Of Data?

Jul 2, 2009

I'm am very new to Vb.net, I have coded in VBA.I have created a form that will open Microsoft Excel, add header text to the columns, and insert the text from a few of the controls located on my form ("not finished adding controls") when I click the Submit button.

My problem is that when I enter different data into those controls and click the submit button again, I get a new Excel Workbook with the new data.I need the new data the be submitted to the .Activecell.Offset(1,0) of the already open workbook.Ultimate Goal of Submit button is to open new Excel workbook, Enter multiple rows of data via Visual Basic Form.

Asp.net Mvc 3 - Late Binding Issue With MVC3 ViewBag?

Feb 18, 2011

I'm trying out MVC Scaffolding in a VB.NET MVC3 project and running into an issue with late binding with Option Strict set on (and I want it on).

This works in C#:

public ActionResult Create()
{
ViewBag.PossibleTeams = context.Teams;

[code].....

causes the compiler error Option Strict On disallows late binding. I took a look at the documentation here: [URL] but it wasn't very helpful.

I notice that a new empty application in C# uses the ViewBag in the HomeController but the VB.NET version uses ViewData, so maybe this is a VB.NET limitation.

Partial Entity Class With Shared Extension Not Associated With 'other' Partial Class In Client Using RIA Services?

Apr 21, 2011

I have extended an Entity Framework 4 entity class with a calculated property in a partial class. This member is not available on the client to which the entities are exposed via WCF RIA Services.when using C# appears to be changing the extension of the partial class file from .cs to .shared.cs. I tried this with my VB.Net solution (.vb to .shared.vb) and got a long list of errors. I believe what happened is that the partial class lost its association with the entity on the client - it inherited from object rather than EntityObject.

My best guess is that this is related to the way that VB.Net handles namespaces.Each project has a 'Root Namespace' which is prepended to anything that is defined within a code file. C# has a 'Default Namespace'which is the namespace into which new types are placed by default - via a namespace statement within the file.The partial class is probably having the client namespace prepended to it which puts it into a different namespace than the entity with which it is associated on the server.Is there any means of extending an entity in such a way that those extensions are available on the client via WCF RIA Services and VB.Net?

Form Authentication Ticket To Store Additional User Data?

Aug 16, 2011

I am trying to implement login page using Form Authentication in ASP.net using vb code.I follow the steps in How To Implement Forms-Based Authentication in Your ASP.NET Application by Using Visual Basic .NET. I created a function in login page :

Private Function ValidateUser(ByVal strUsername As String, ByVal strPassword As String) As Boolean
and call it in btnLogIn_Click
Protected Sub btnLogIn_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnLogIn.Click[code].....

Things works fine and i can get the username display in label.However,I need to get more user data like UserName, Fullname and RoleCode. Also, i would to display the user's fullname to instead of usename in welcome message. I was told this can be done using FormsAuthenticationTicket method to store addictional user data in the "my user data" section. Do i need to create a user data class to store the user data and then use it in the FormAuthenticationTicket? If yes, how should i do it?

Pass Data To Dialog - Manipulate And Pass Back?

Jan 15, 2010

Just started VB programming this week and have found a wealth of information about what I'm trying to do. Problem is, some of it is more complete than others.Here's what I'm trying to do:In Form1 (my main form), I want to instantiate a class that contains a couple of properties (speed setpoint and position setpoint). When I click a button, I want to pass this data to Form2 and populate two textboxes on Form2 with the properties of this object. I want to manipulate the property values on Form2 and click an OK button which closes the dialog and returns the manipulated data, updating the property values of the object. Here's the algorithm I'm following:1) On Form1, instantiate the class2) On Form1's "Pass Data" button click event handler, instantiate a Form2 object and invoke the ShowDialog method, passing the object as a parameter.

3) On Form2, overload the ShowDialog method to accept the object as a parameter and modify the method so that it returns the manipulated class data.4) On Form2, in the ShowDialog method, populate the textboxes with the class data that was passed in.Here's where I get stuck. If I press the OK button on Form2 (DialogResult.OK), it returns me to Form1, but what hook do I have in Form1 to receive the manipulated class data that the ShowDialog method is returning?Here's an example of what I'm thinking about:

Code:
Public Class Form1
Dim clsController1 As New MotionController

[code].....

I'm sure it's probably a very elementary question, but every explanation I've found seems to be incomplete.

Pass Data Between Two Winform Applications?

I have two VB projects in one VS2010 solution. The first program brings in about 60 integers every few seconds from my PC's serial port. The second program, published via Click-Once and running on my customer's PC, needs to see that new data every two to five seconds.

Is there a simple and reliable way to accomplish this, staying with VB? WCF is way over my head.
