View 3 RepliesI created a VBA project in Excel. I would like to figure out how to transfer the data back in forth to make a more presentable and user-friendly program in VB Studio.Basically, I need my form in VB to input data to into an excel workbook.data, where the calculations are preformed. Then I need to copy the finished excel data cells workbook.results and paste them into an end result form in VB. I have tried looking at threads and cannot come up with a solution. There is no data saved each time the program runs, so I don't have a database.

View 2 RepliesI am trying to store data to access by VB 2008 express. basically, I have 13 check boxes to let the users to choose. when they finish checking the boxes, they will click the button "submit" to submit it. VB will store this as a new row in the database.
However, my insertcommand is shown as invalid. so I need your help to figure out my errors. I put the codes in my reply below to be clear.
I am trying to retrieve the data from EXCEL 2003 spreadsheet from row 8 onwards because from Row 1 to Row 7 the row is merged columns from A1 to K1, A2 to K2, A3 to K3, A4 to K4, A5 to K5, A6 to K6, A7 to K7.
View 28 RepliesI am trying to retrieve an excel chart (created out of .net), which i have earlier copied to the clipboard.As long as I work with type bitmap I can copy/retrieve it as follows:
Code:' copy to clipboard (in .net)charts.CopyPicture(Office.XlPictureAppearance.xlScreen, Office.XlCopyPictureFormat.xlBitmap)
' retrieve it againimgImage=Clipboard.GetDataObject.GetData(DataFormats.Bitmap)
Unfortunately, the quality of the bitmap is rather bad, thus I would like to copy it as a Metafile. The copying works, but the retrieving will only return Nothing.
Code:' copy to clipboard (in .net)charts.CopyPicture(Office.XlPictureAppearance.xlScreen, Office.XlCopyPictureFormat.xlPicture)
' retrieve it againimgImage=Clipboard.GetDataObject.GetData(DataFormats.MetaFilePict) ' returns Nothing!
I have checked if the object is available in the clipboard using GetDataPresent and it shows that there is a metafile available. Still, it returns nothing.On a side note: Is there a way to avoid using the clipboard? After all I am creating the charts in .NET and I need them there as well. Could I access the image of the chartobject directly?
i grow familiar with statements queries of SQL. Now, i have to start writting a store produce and function in SQL Management studio express.

In my application I want the user to enter information that can be stored in BOTH an SQL database and and Excel spreadsheet. I tried research but can't find the code to include or import Excel
into my project.I've seen examples like:
Dim excelApp As New Excel.Application
Dim excelWB As New Excel.Workbook
etc....
but VB doesn't recognize it as a shared namespace. Is it possible to load a spreadsheet into a VB project with express edition?
I want to insert worksheet object on a VBA form for AutoCad. I had done it before. But now I can not recall which object was used for this.

am trying to load data from an excel worksheet & its really giving me headache. A particular column contains both string and numeric data. its picking only the numeric data & loading the string data as blank entries. I tried checking what may be wrong, i think i saw a documentation that says Excel scans the first 8 rows of a column & determines it data type.plz, how can i load everything on the sheet (i can get everything as string, but i dont want to lose any entry)

I am creating an Excel Add-In using Visual Studio 2010. I would like to run some code when users clicks a combination of keys.Here is the code I have got
Public Class CC
Private Sub ThisAddIn_Startup() Handles Me.Startup
EnableShortCut()
End Sub
Sub A1()
[Code]...
The Add-In when installed shows an error on clicking the short cuts. It says the specific macro cannot be found.The code under the Sub EnableShortCut() works well when it is in an excel vba module. The same won't work when it is added to an Excel Add-In created with Visual Studio.
I've cracked the reading Outlook emails from a specific folder in a VB 2008 program but now I need to append my parsed data to end of an existing Excel Spreadsheet. where I can look for some code samples of now to do this?
View 3 Repliesi am using vb .net and importing excel sheet to ms access. i am doing this work very well. but i want that when a user select the excel file to import, than user must asked for the data types that he want for the different fields, by default when user imports the excel file it assign the text data type to text filed such as name and number data type to numeric field such as roll_no. but i want that user select the data type according to his need.
code that i use is to import file is given below:
Imports System.Data.OleDb
Imports excel = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel
Public Class Form2

I am attempting to create a worksheet in an existing excel spreadsheet from visual basic 2008 but it does not create it. My code is below.
Dim strFilename = "C: est.xls"
Dim SQL2 = "CREATE TABLE" & _
" [" & strFileName &
";].[Sheet2] ;"
[code]....
The idea is that I have certain values stored in textboxes/listboxes and thus can I store the information in a spread sheet. And if I change the value in the spreadsheet can it also change the value in the application? I had one idea which was to make both store data in a txt file and read from that, but I'm not quite sure how to do that either.
View 1 RepliesI'm using the 2008 express edition. Now, I created an application that will allow the user to choose transaction in the combobox.text and input its price and quantity using an textbox.text. When the user click button1, it will be push in the datagrid/datable I created. And when the user click the button2, it must be save to excel file. The only thing I need is how to save the data from datagrid/datatable to excel. This is my code.
Imports System.Data
Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Imports Excel = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel
[Code]....
I am converting several VBA projects to Windows form applications. The only problem I have is that some of the functionality of Excel is essential to the application, such as R1C1 formulas. I do not want to instantiate the Excel application or access saved worksheets. All of the data is retrieved by querying Oracle databases. 2-Dimensional arrays are not an option because the columns contain differing datatypes, and DataGridViews are too slow to work with.
I thought simply dimming a Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet object would be enough, but the program kept failing and upon inspecting the object's elements in debug mode, I found that every value says this:
{"Unable to cast COM object of type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.WorksheetClass' to interface type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel._Worksheet'. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID '{000208D8-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}' failed due to the following error: No such interface supported (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004002 (E_NOINTERFACE))."}
I like the PHP way of doing things but, it seems I am stuck with using a Collection of Object's to store/retrieve the data I need. I have my Collection loaded with my Objects's and the code to iterate through the collection, my problem is I am unable to retrieve the "key" as it would be called in PHP (I believe in this case it is actually the name of the object).
Consider the following example:
Dim xDoc As XPathDocument = New XPathDocument(fName)
Dim xNav As XPathNavigator = xDoc.CreateNavigator()
Dim sender As XPathNodeIterator
[CODE]...
As you can see, I am navigating an XML document, and creating an Object with some Key/Value pairs. The Object would look something like this if it were in JSON:
{"name":"John Smith","address1":"123 Anywhere St.","city":"This City","state":"FL"}
When I iterate though the Collection I can only get the value of the object, but I need the Key, in this instance I want "name","address1","city","state" to be stored in a variable for each iteration.
If you have to store and retrieve data from a database is a string not the most effcient way? What is best?
How does this work in a real world scenario.
For example: I have a customer ie first name and last name and the CustomerID is autoincremented when initially added to the database. Now, the user could lookup and find the customer by their ID but we all know that's not practical. They don't know 231223 is John Adams, they know John Adams or Adams John.
So how do you handle this? Access is the database I am using but I think this would apply to any database.
I need to store/retrieve a bit from a data table of 3.268.760 bits long.
Using w As New BinaryWriter(File.Open("test.bin", FileMode.Create))
for x = 1 to 3268760
For i = 1 To 3268760[code]....
the w.write(?) stores a boolean value meaning 0/1 for false/true values, but Vb.net seems to use an whole byte to store this data which is too expensive for my table (3.268.760^2).Is there a pratical way to store/retrive single bits from a file using vb.net? (meaning as little as possible conversion to other types).
I would like to ask how I can select an Excel worksheet via code in vb. I looked but I only came across something like the below:
Private Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, _
ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click
Dim objSheets As Excel.Sheets
[code]....
with the line: objSheet = objSheets(1), but because the tabs can be in any order, using the index isn't really helpful to me. Is there a way to select a worksheet by name in VB 2008?
Perhaps something like the : objSheets("MyWorksheet").select
that is something akin to the Excel vba code?
This is my first time posting in a forum like this, so please excuse me if I accidentally break any thread rules (btw, where can i find these?). I am very new to Visual Basic and have been trying to teach myself as I create this program. I have experience with macros in excel so I do understand some of the coding, but definitely nowhere near being proficient. I am using Visual Basic 2008 Step by Step (Michael Halvorson) to teach myself.
I am trying to create some code in my program that will allow the user to open an excel file and then return the number of rows and columns in the worksheet. There will only be 1 worksheet in the workbook (since this is just a small part of a larger program I am writing). I already tested the code that will open the file in another program and it worked fine; the thing that is catching me is the row and column counts. I'm a bit stuck here and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. Here is the code as follows: Code: I have another sub for a quit button which I chose to leave out. The last line for the MessageBox is causing me problems.
I amusing VB.net to count the number of HPageBreaks in an Excel worksheet...here is the code I'm currently using:[code]Sometimes it returns the proper count...but most of the time it returns "0" and I have no clue as to why.
