View 9 RepliesI wanted to ask you something which is bugging me for a while. I work an IT dept at a local bank and I got instructions to make an application which should retrieve some financial info from a financial banking stats page.
The webpage can be accessed through [URL].. and the info can be seen in the web browser but I cannot extract them because the info is not available in the source code of the page.It seems it's generating the info dynamically using a jsquery.js file.
I was wondering if it's possible to make an app which uses some cache or something (I guess the the page is saved temporary somewhere on the disk for the current session) to retrieve that data in vb.net?
Basically i am trying to create a programme, which needs to have some authorisation.
When the application starts up, it starts straight into the login screen.
I want the Username and Password textboxes to read the database and if they match then progress to the next form but if they dont match then a message box will appear.
I also want to create groups of people so if a certain group of people log in they go to a certain form and if the another group of people log in i want them to go to a different form.
Also i want the password box to be * instead of visable text.
dbProvider = "PROVIDER=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;"
dbSource = "Data Source = D:/Users.mdb"
con.ConnectionString = dbProvider & dbSource
[Code]....
I've been working with VB6, 2003, 2005 and 2010 and I've always hardcoded my database passwords. Recently we ran into a problem where we would like to change all our db passwords for audit purposes. The problem is passwords for different dbs have been hardcoded in all our programs. How can I create programs going forward without hard coding the passwords in? I think I should be using a config file of some sort, but not sure how or where to start.
View 1 RepliesThere's some code I have hidden via the Outline-Hide selection method, and the hidden code shows as a box with 3 dots. I saw that if you put some code in the #region - #end region area the hidden code box can be renamed, but region-end region cannot be used inside a property, so is there any other method to rename the hidden code in a property?
View 4 RepliesAny way to import passwords into all program downloads. For example, if I wish to give a certain user a password I can somehow insert it into a program, and it updates all the programs which have been downloaded. It just saves editing the code, then releasing another update to include new passwords for people to use. Maybe if there's someway to auto update when an update is available, it would work. Here is the coding for a password. I just need to find a way with will mass update everybody's program when I want to add a new password for another person.
Private Sub ButtonX2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Verify.Click
My.Settings.Password = TextBoxX3.Text
My.Settings.Save()
Incorrect.Visible = True

Im doing a lil coding project in vb .net, i wrote up my login script and can can successful connect to a mysql database (not talking about the wordpress one) and pull login data from a table(called logins, fields are just username and password) to use for logging into my application. When i looked at the password fields in the wordpress database all the passwords are like encrypted and are random characters.
So the problem is im not sure of what type of encryption it is, and how I can utilize it for my login form in my vb project. I havn't tried coding this since i was certain if it was possible.
I want to make 5 attachment options in that 4 out of the 5 are hidden.but when he clicks "more attachment" link it will show the other 4.Im using ASP.NET with VB?
View 2 RepliesRight now I am using this code on client side.

The values for the hidden fields are already set. I want these value to open a window, in which the fields will be already filled using the values passed by this page. This code is working fine on Internet Explorer, but not on other browsers. Moreover, when I don't pass any value and just open the required window, it works on all browsers.
Is it possible to edit the Windows Form Designer generated code in VS2008?

vb
Query = "SELECT * INTO [test] FROM [tblAccounts] WHERE 1=2"
comm = New OleDbCommand(Query, conn)

I am trying to run this command as a hidden window. But it still displays it fine. This works for any other application but because it's running a dll I believe it isn't meant for that.

View 2 RepliesI am upgrading from Access 2003 to Access 2007. I found this page on the MSDN library http:[url]....Some of my code uses some of these properties that according to this page are "hidden" in 2007. So exactly what does "hidden" mean? Does this mean I can still set these properties in code or does this mean that Microsoft has not fully removed them but their functionality is dormant in Access 2007?

View 9 RepliesI am using a Windows Dialog form in my VB 2008 project. I bring up the dialog form no problem with the following
Dim resultNewInc As DialogResult
resultNewInc = frmDialog.ShowDialog()
If resultNewInc = DialogResult.OK Then
...some code here ...
End If
And in the Dialog Form, the OK button has code
Me.DialogResult = System.Windows.Forms.DialogResult.OK
Me.Close()
But there is one problem. If I call up the dialog form again, the form controls have the text values that were typed in during the previous instantiation and a class which is part of the form was not disposed. So it looks like the form is being "hidden" and not closed. I tried to use the code form.dispose but it didn't work.
How would i create and make a folder hidden from user?

View 5 RepliesI have created a security program that monitors the keystokeswebsitesprocesses... I want to FIRST ask if this is a legal question; for, my purpose in this program is security reasons (eg. following up on employees to make sure that they are doing what they are paid to do. They all know this is running, and have been warned not to go to sites and enter information they do not want reviewed).
Second, I want this program to be hidden so that techy persons cannot go into task manager and end the process, then go on to some porn site! How could I make this app hidden, or at the very least make it 'un-end-able' from the task manager?
I know its a very basic problem but what is the best way to store passwords and usernames in visual basic 2008? View 8 RepliesI'm trying to write a program right now for my computer science class for a program where you insert text into a text box, (the text being a password), and then click a submit button. The goal of the assignment is to have a program that looks at the user given password and see if it matches the const password (or one of the three const passwords in my case). If it doesn't, it is supposed to loop back so you can re-input the password. Also, If you enter the correct password, the loop ends and you are to get a msgbox (or, in my case three different ones), and then the application closes. We are to write the code so that if the password is wrong "x" (insert 3 as the number I have chosen), a MsgBox will pop up with a message saying
something along the lines of "you have gotten the password wrong to many times.", and then the application is supposed to close. I don't think I could rant on much more, I've done a good (or in my eyes terrible) job of summarizing the assignment.
[Code]...
My problem (aside from, I don't know, a problem with my code itself) is that when It reaches the loop, it goes through all the code again, but I'm unable to change the user given password, and so it just pops up the three failed password entry MsgBoxes (the code for which is temporarily removed), then the failed to many times MsgBox, OR one of the successful message boxes. What I'm wondering is if anyone can help me fix my code so that it functions as desired.
I have a similar problem posted in the forum similar to this : started learning VB. I am not able to get my example code to work to access an Access database through automation. The author of my book suggested that I might not have the correct Jet 4.0 engine. The specs I have are: MSJet40.dll, Dated 7/14/2009, Prod Ver 4.00.9756.0.
View 3 RepliesI am using VB.NET 2010. I have a Windows 2008 Web Server, where about 80 user accounts are activated. It is NO Active Directory Environment!!! This is a server, where Windows SharePoint Services are hosted. So, once a year, I have to give all users a new password. (I have to give it, because of some security thinkings of the owner of this Page). So, changing the password for each person is a very long activity. How can I do this by a VB.NET Program? - When I am logged on as an Administrator to this server?
View 15 RepliesThe following webpage talks about using impersonation in code (ASP.NET)[url]... I am thinking about creating a class for the code, then the application can call impersonateValidUser and undoimpersonation.
I am concerned about putting usernames and passwords in my code as surely anyone will be able to see them using a tool like ILDASM. What is the best way to hide these passwords?
The article has a section titled: Impersonate the IIS Authenticated Account or User. I thought about creating an impersonated user in the Web.Config, but this would mean that the entire application is run as the inpersonated user. I only want a very small part of the application to run as the impersonated user - when it is necesary to access and update active directory.
How to do this: I have a webbrowser on a normal form with a listbox undernieth it. I would like the program to get the passwords from IE or FIREFOX so then I could import them into my webbrowser.
View 5 RepliesI recently made a small app for a friend and then made it a public app, in doing so I forgot that it connects to my MS SQL DB and checks for values. Someone used Red Gate .Net Reflector to get my password and destroy it all. I've contacted their ISP and they are looking into it, apparently this person has a static ip with them.So this is a lesson learned at a heavy price for me. How can I prevent this from happening again? How can I get away from the unsafe connection string they were able to use?
