VS 2008 Array Reference - Project With Several Forms And Modules
Dec 9, 2009
I have a project with several forms and modules. The problem which I am mentioning revolves around 3 items : 2 forms (e.g. form1 & form2) and a module. (Using VB.NET 2008, .net 3.5)
Now I have a structure declared in a module. I have a variable of that in form1 and form2.
'Module Code
Structure MScanner
Dim Indicator() As MuseIndStru
Dim FName As String
[CODE]..............
Now what is happening is, I am passing structure variable MScan (Form1) to Form2 (see function of form2 InitFilter) byvalue. Then in form2 I am changing value of a copy of the structure (see variable MS being changed in a private sub). But then when I close form2, form1's variable of MScan also get the value of variable MS (declared in form2).
I don't understand as this is not suppose to happen. I have reloaded my project as well but this problem is there. Why is my form1's variable value MScan being changed by form2.

Yesterday I opened Visual Studio (2008 v 9.0.30729.1) and all the winform classes in my project display with class module icons with the little 'VB', instead of form module icons with the little form icon!
When I double click on a form module, the form designer doesn't open, just the code module.
When I run the project, it runs fine. There are no errors. The project builds fine.
I did Project --> show all files, and I can see the designer and resx files below the form module which doesn't look or act like a form module.
I can't open my forms to design them!

I have a big project in vb.net with over a 400 forms and datasets and 100 reports. I deploy it using clickatonce. I want to split it into modules so each user will use the core project plus the modules his department needs, so when I make an update to a module he will take only this update and not the whole project as I am doing now.

I'm working on a project that is based on modules and plug-ins. Any of these modules might alter some part of a database in various ways. One module might write or edit one table, while another module might write or edit other tables.
The modules all communicate via events raised on a common object. Therefore, when a person using module A enters a certain change that would edit data managed by module A, the module raises a Proposed Edit event such that all other modules that might be affected by the edit will have a chance to accept or reject the edit. If no module rejects the edit, then module A makes its changes and raises an Edit event, at which time all the other modules make any changes they need to make.
That's the basic pattern, but there's a problem. If I don't share a transaction during the edit, then module A can successfully edit their tables, but module B might fail to edit their table. In some cases, the failure by B should rollback the changes made by A. Therefore, it would make sense for module A to share an open transaction for all the other modules to use while making their changes, and this gets either committed or rolled back, depending on whether everyone was successful, or not.
The problem with that design is that a person could write a new module C that had a bug which caused it to fail to update correctly. That would cause it to signal that the transaction failed, such that all the other modules, which had been working up to that point, would no longer work because this new module kept canceling the transactions. In other words, the modularity of the program has now been lost. Every module depends entirely on every other module that even cares about its data.
In most cases, what would be lost if certain modules failed would be minor, whereas what would be lost if other modules failed would be catastrophic, as there would be no way to re-create the lost data with any kind of ease.As long as this explanation is, it may not be sufficient. At least it might start a discussion. Do the actions of all the modules act in the same transaction, or should they be left to succeed or fail on their own?

I declare an array on one form that i'd like to use on another form. I declare it public in the declarations area and edit it later within a Private sub. However, when i reference it from another form it's as if i haven't editted it at all and it is only grabbing the initial declaration.
Public Class form1
Public Array() As Integer
Private Sub button_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As

I have a frm_Main, which starts a thread. The thread then goes and calls a module, which has a thread.sleep() in it. This causes the mouse to freeze up while it sleeps, despite being called by the child thread. I thought this would have be on the thread time-slice? However it is causing my form to freeze for the sleep duration.

I created a class library of useful functions and it compiled successfully into a DLL. It works great but I need to reference the DLL by navigating to my class project.
Can't I just move the DLL into the System32 folder and point to that reference? Do I need to register it with the OS or can I simply drag & drop?

I have two projects
a.sln and b.sln they have their own classes, modules and forms.
As I work on solution 'A' I devise a class and save it in solution A's folder. As the class develops, I now find a need for it in solution B.
How can I move it from solution A's folder to my Common folder then link it into solution A and B.
Currently I am doing this manually, Moving then linking to it. Is there a way to do this withing the IDE

I was a VB6 programmer. And back in the day global variables, functions and subroutines were put in a module. The program started in the module using a sub named Main(). Now in vb2010 it looks like using sub Main() is possible only for console apps, which is not what I want, I'm still trying to write a windows app but it looks like everything has to go at the top of the starting form?? How is this good coding practice? Shouldn't public vars and functions be in their own module? What is considered best practice? Are there any links that would walk me through the differences between vb6 and vb2010?

I just tried to convert some of my Projects from VB2008 to VB2010 RC, but got compiling Errors while compiling the resX Files. Seems like the reason are ImageLists/Icons, since if I remove them the files compile fine. I already tried to edit the Forms witch are showing the Errors with the Designer. The Designer changed the Content of the resX file lightly, but the error was still present Here the Error(German Version): 'FormsfrmUserTmpBUTable.resx : error RG0000: Der Objektverweis wurde nicht auf eine Objektinstanz festgelegt.' I recall a similar error in the Beta, but since I can't find it anymore, I guessed it was fixed.

I'm developing application that is plugable. The plugins are loaded via Assembly.LoadFrom(). In my solution I have 4 projects. A WPF, 2 DLL and another DLL that is a plugin for the app. The plugin project references one of the other DLLs. When I build the Solution and run I was getting an error trying to use the plugin dll because it was expecting an older version of the referenced project. I had to clean and rebuild the plugin project to get it to run correctly.

I have a project that I have created, it something like a contact database. It is complete with its own sql server database, and controls and forms.I kinda of understand that I can include this project into another project. This is the tricky part,Can I include my contact project into another project and add more items to the database and forms in a new project? What I'm after is like using classes. My contact database would be like the base class, and the new project would be adding more features to that project.

I would like to use 3 forms on which there will be various controls. I want the user of the program to complete first the stuff on Form1 then click to Button 1 in order to go to the second form (which is "next" button). On second form, there will be two buttons (Back and Next) and these will navigate it next or previous form. My aim is to have a single window at all times (the user should not see several windows and have the feeling that all these different windows are in fact a unique window with navigation buttons on it).
I know how to make forms visible/invisible or determine manually the location on the screen. But my question is if there is a conventional way of arranging these forms and their navigation. I used codes like "Form2.show" but I am not sure if it is the correct way to show form2 and make Form1 invisible or disabled.

I am doing a VB.NET course, there is a question in one of my assignments - "How many modules can you have in one program?" This seems like something that should be easy to find, but I have not been able to find it anywhere. Can anyone direct me to a resource that would have this? My initial thought is unlimited, although in practical terms, if you have an excess number of modules, then you probably need to re-think your workflows.

The problem is that when i have defined a function in one module with "coord" as type and try to assign a value in the other module with coord type i get error message "Value of type Main.Interfacing.Coord cannot be converted to Main.Espec.Coord", so basically how could i pass that structure?

I want to use certain functionality of VB.NET into C#.NET and hence I have added the dll file of VB.NET solution into C#.NET as a reference by browsing the dll from my system. Say dll name for VB.NET is myData.dll. In my C#.NET project I am trying to declare it as a namespace i.e. "using myData;" and its giving me an error of "Type or namespace name could not be found"

Public Class aaMyForm Inherits Windows.Forms.Form Added some controls. Build it, add the .DLL as reference to my other project.
In my other project:
Imports MyLib
Public Class XForm
Inherits aaMyForm
The events from aaMyForm execute correctly but the controls added to it are not shown on XForm. I have found some info about set Modifiers Protected in order to be able to change the functionality of the controls but havent found anything about why the controls aren display on the XForm.

For reasons that are beyond my control, I have three Projects. Projects A and B reference project C. Project A references project B so that it can open a large form in project B. I now need to open that large form from project C, but VB won't allow me to add a reference from C to B because that would create a circular dependency. I found a way around it, though. I created a Timer in A, and when I opened C from A, I passed in that timer. When the user performs a certain action, I enable the Timer from A, and this causes C to open B for me.
