How best to cancel/kill a recursive folder copy? I am looping through a number of pathnames in a list box and then recursively copying all files and sub-folders to a backup location. Suppose the user wants to cancel for some reason. I have checked that I can detect a click on my "cancel" button in a timely manner (DoEvents sees to that) but how can I stop the recursive file copy without ending the program? [code]

I am using this to copy and directory and all subdirectories and files to removable media (flash drive). Everything copies perfectly fine except for 1 file. this occurs on the same file every time and sometimes the file copies successfully, but other times it does not.The problem file is a 7-zip archive with a .7z file extension.When it does not successfully copy, the file is only 8 bytes on the flash drive.[code]
View 5 RepliesI have an application that re-curses through sub-folders and adds them to a database, I'm running into issues with a folder/path being beyond 255 characters and the code not being able to list the sub-folders for the folder.The code I'm using is below, the program crashes when it reaches the first line upon reaching the folder which is 256 characters long.

The problem is with the destination. The destination is selected by a select folder dialogbox. I want to copy the file from the server to the folder specified in the textbox.

However, the login progess is a long process as there are many things that have to be initialized and checks to be made, I have only put a few on here, as it would make the code to long to post.In the code below I am checking if the CancellationPending if the CancelAsync has been called in my cancel button click event, before doing each check. I'm trying to write a small script that will copy a folder (named .minecraft) to a new folder (doesn't exist, but I want to create a new folder called .minecraft_backups). The current code I have is:

I get an error saying: Could not find directory '%appdata%/.minecraft'. I'm guessing it's because of the %appdata% shortcut. Is there any workaround to do this? The reason for this is because obviously if I don't enter %appdata% and enter the full route to the directory I need to enter the users username for the computer.

I have a VB 2008 Express program that uses a sequence of functions to move a set of image controls randomily until they meet some criteria as returned by a function, named here Passed().The random placements can result in an unsolvable solution, i.e. an infinite loop; So I've implemented a timer check that triggers just longer then the typical solution time (~2 seconds). Assumption being that any attempt longer then typical is likely headed to oblivion.
Upon timer trigger I attempt to reset all the images to a known location and simply recall the preceeding functions to again try placing them until they meet my desired outcome.I believe I am encountering an out of memory type error, due to an apparent corruption of the display (great big white area appears for no apparent reason and program never returns without manual halt). Program does appear to restart properly a couple of times before this 'lock-up' occurs.

Is it possible that the calling of New each time might be filling up the available heap / memory (there are a lot more images then the 5 demonstrated here. I am unsure how to clear it and even if I did would clearing the memory associated with New Point () cause my images to not be displayed?

I am working on networks. My work involves finding out what nodes connected to a specific node (Source node). I have developed a code which does this using a recursive function. The only problem that I have I need to record the path. For example shown in the picture below, my program give me the following results:
