View 1 RepliesI've set up a basic loop to delete all the files in a particular folder. I've set the loop in a Try block so it doesn't crash the application when it gets to a file it can't delete. I'd like for the app to just pass over these type of files. At the moment, my loop stops completely when it gets to that exception.

Then I get an IOException The directory is not empty. - clicking OK dismisses this and then the folder structure is not deleted. I would like to create a build event to do that, but I do not see a "Build Events" folder on the property page. Is there a setting where I can get this folder? View 4 RepliesI have copied a folder with a project renaming the folder. I have then browsed and opened the project in the VB.Net 2005 IDE. I have then renamed the Assembly, root namespace, solution and project, searched and replaced all instances of original name, cleaned, rebuilt, tried deleting the bin and obj folders and rebuilt. But every time I run the newly named exe, when I try and start the original exe along side it nothing happens. it still thinks that the old exe is the same process? Both solutions are single instance applications. Why does it still think they are the same. I want the renamed copy to have slightly different functionality to cater for a different type of user but can't get both exe's to run at the same time which some users need. I can't see anywhere I have not changed the name for the new version.

I created a program which was deleting a particular directory for me. The program was compiled and working. Today I run the same program...did not do any system updates and now it won't delete my specified directory. I ran tests to make sure the directory is there when testing...I keep getting access/permission errors.
I rebooted system, ran my application...still gave me error. I turned off Windows Defender...still got error. If I manually delete the directory...no problem.
Is there a way to get system permission to delete the directory? I am being given an 'access denied' error...I do not have permission. I tried running my application as administrator...no good. - VB 2008 Express - VISTA OS
I am trying to rid my team's Visual Studio projects of "My Project" folders. None of my team is using custom settings or anything that would need to be stored in the "My Project" folder for any of our projects.
I have edited our .vbproj files with a text editor to remove any reference to "My Project", deleted "My Project" from disk, and ensured that no one has checked "My Project" or any of its files into version control. But when any of these projects is compiled, Visual Studio insists on autogenerating "My Project", re-creating the folder (just the folder, without any files inside) on disk and inserting a reference to that folder into the project.
(To clarify, when I say "a reference to that folder into the project", I mean that the .vbproj file contains the following text:
<ItemGroup>
<Folder Include="My Project" />
</ItemGroup>
and that text will not die no matter how many times I kill it.)I suspect that the chain of events is that VS modifies the project to include the reference to the folder; then after the project is compiled the folder is generated because it is referenced. How then can I prevent Visual Studio from modifying project files to refer to this infernal folder?

View 2 RepliesI have a VB.NET project in Visual Studio 2010 for an Excel Add-In.I use the "My" namespace,and in general it seems that the "My Project" folder contains configuration information about the project.My problem is that I need to change the name of this folder, because my version manager system won't accept spaces in file or folder names.Edit: There is a hacky way to do it, by renaming the folder and changing all references in the .vbproj file.However, the may work for a command line generation, but it won't work the next time the project will be opened in Visual Studio. The IDE will create a new "My Project" folder, and complain that it can't find the settings in it.

For reasons that are beyond my control, I have three Projects. Projects A and B reference project C. Project A references project B so that it can open a large form in project B. I now need to open that large form from project C, but VB won't allow me to add a reference from C to B because that would create a circular dependency. I found a way around it, though. I created a Timer in A, and when I opened C from A, I passed in that timer. When the user performs a certain action, I enable the Timer from A, and this causes C to open B for me.

View 4 RepliesMy program takes screen shots and saves them but i want to incoorporate a function that allows a user to delete all the images in the file they choose to save them into [code] And its not working the program names each image after the frame that it was taken, ie the first frame is called 1 the second two etc..I want to delete all of the files and the folder that they were saved in but this way doesnt work and is not horribly efficient.filedir is a textbox on the form that the user inputs a save location so thats what i am using to determin files to delete.
