VS 2008 - Change Individual Item Color In DataBound ComboBox

May 8, 2009

I have a combobox called cbMaterialType on a windows form that's bound to a table in SQL - everything loads great and the combobox displays 'Material' items as it should, in that table I have two fields - Material (as mentioned above) which is a char(25) and InStock which is an nchar(1). If the InStock field contains a '1', I'd like the individual material to be green in the combobox, if '0', then red. I have the simple code in the drawitem event of the combobox as follows, but can't seem to get any results at all:

Private Sub cbMaterialType_DrawItem(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DrawItemEventArgs) Handles cbMaterialType.DrawItem
If MaterialTableAdapter1.GetData.Item(cbMaterialType.SelectedIndex).InStock = 1 Then
cbMaterialType.ForeColor = System.Drawing.Color.Green
Else
cbMaterialType.ForeColor = System.Drawing.Color.Red
End If
End Sub

I've never worked with any form of color in comboboxes before and this is my first attempt at the drawitem event.

How To Change Background Color For Individual ComboBox Items

Jun 2, 2010

I have a combo box which will store a list of RGB values generated when the user makes a custom color in the color dialog. The values are stored in the combo box in RRR, GGG, BBB format. I have this working. The code for this is as follows:

dlgChooser.ShowDialog()
Dim colorR As String = dlgChooser.Color.R.ToString()
Dim colorG As String = dlgChooser.Color.G.ToString()
Dim colorB As String = dlgChooser.Color.B.ToString()
lblTitle.ForeColor = dlgChooser.Color()
cmbRecent.Items.Insert(0, colorR & ", " & colorG & ", " & colorB)
cmbRecent.SelectedIndex = 0

The next part is to change each recent color's background color to match whatever color the values represent (so that it's easier to pick from the colors). How do I assign a background color to each item listed in the combo box?

Add New Item To Databound Combobox

May 2, 2012

I have a combobox that is bound to a dataset (via datatable and datatableAdapter). The combobox displays the current data in the table as it should.I have programmatically added the string "ADD..." to the list at the form.shown event:[code]when the user then click on (select) "ADD...", i open a new form to allow the user to add a new item to the list.The code i have behind the "ACCEPT" button on the new form stores the NEW value to the DATASET. I have verified this by previewing the data in the dataset.My problem is getting the combobox to reflect the changes to datatable to which it is bound.[code]

Forms :: Add Item To Databound ComboBox?

Sep 7, 2009

I started a Windows app using all code for database connection and validation. However, it was always losing the formatting that I had set at run time. So I thought I would use the long tedious process of using all of the studios objects with minimum code.

I am now at the position where I am mostly happy with the layout and how this operates. However, I want to be able to add a non-databound value to a databound combo box. I have set the properties for the combo box in the combo box tasks.

Also, I want to add the ability for the user to update that table that is bound to this control, when a value is not in the list. I know that there is a NotInList event in Access, but I can not find it in VB.Net. I did get so far with updating from the combo box using the Leave event. However, when the database was updated the control could not find the ID in the Clients table to save to the Quotes table.

Programmatically Change Foreground Color And Make Bold Text In Individual Cell Location On DataGridView Control?

May 5, 2010

How to programmatically change foreground color and make bold text in individual cell location on DataGridView control (Visual Basic)?

I use "dgMatrix.Rows(r).Cells(c).Value = x" to assign individual numeric values to individual cells in a DataGridView control. My question; is there a similar way to change foreground color and make bold the text in this cell, by specifying the individual row/column cell location?

For example; for cell (row 3, col 5) in the DataGridView make text in cell say red and bold or blue and bold so as to highlight and distinguish individual cell contents. As needed, I will also need to reset these properties (foreground back to automatic/black and font from bold back to regular); the reset could be done globally to the whole DataGridView as opposed to indiviaually by cell.

Change List Of Combobox A Based On Item Chosen From Combobox B?

Jun 17, 2011

I am new to vb.net and I am using visual studio 2010. I have two comboboxes on a form, each combobox is set to DropDownList so that a list of items can show in the combobox, but no text is allowed to be entered.

For combobox A, if user chooses item 1, the list of combobox B should be updated accordingly. I think this is quite common on a lot of applications. But I do not know to implement it. I even do not know the keyword to search for the relevant property or event handler.

Change Color Of One Item In Listbox?

Sep 17, 2011

The code below is from your forum and it gives the error: missingmemberexception?

For x3 = 0 To lstStock.Items.Count - 1
If lstStock.Items(x3) = LastStockCode1 Then
lstStock.Items(x3).attributes.add("style", "color:red")
Exit For
End If
Next x3

I have a list box display on a form. I want to change the forground color of one item using item index. The code "lststock.item(x3).attributes.add("style", "color:red")" does not work. One solution was two pages of code! This s/b simple. I have the INDEX of the list item. I just want to change the words in that item from the color at list build time to red to highlite it!

Change Color Of One ListBox Item

Mar 9, 2011

I'm making a small program in VB.NET. I have a listBox and a button. I'd like to be able to press the button and have the selected listBox item change it's foreColor to green. I've tried many ways of doing this, ranging from overriding the draw method to using a listView (listBox is much better for what I'm doing, please don't recommend that I use a listView, I've already tried it.)At first I thought this would be simple, but it's the exact opposite and I'm very frustrated that such a simple task should be so difficult. I don't want to use any third-party controls, as I'd have to completely re-write my application.

Change Background Color Of Item In Listbox / When Its String Value Is Equal To Something?

Oct 14, 2011

i have a listbox that contains the words "week1", "week2",all the way up to "week52" and when i select a week from the listbox it will retrieve a value from a mysql database that will represent a progress bar value. my progress bar has a range of 0-120 and i would like to have all the weeks that have values higher than 100 to be highlighted or marked somehow, in the listbox. so my question is, "is there a way to set the background color of certain weeks in the listbox to orange based on the value that they represent on the database?

for example for "week1", the value is 114, so when the listbox loads, i want the background color of the item "week1" in the list to be orange (indicating that it's current value is higher than 100)? i know that this requires me to implement a user defined drawing function for the listbox items but i dont know where i would even start. i would like this to be somewhat automatic so that it checks the values and changes the background colors of any value higher than 100, instead of me specifying a name of the item.
