Probably an easy question to answer...I have 9 buttons on my form

etc. and all do the same thing so how can I merge them into the same sub so i don't have to copy and paste a bunch?

I was wondering if there is a way to remove "private subs" from a form. Many times I double-click the wrong button in the form, and that sub which pops up will stay in the code forever, which is making the code more messy.
Another thing is that if I change the name of a button in the buttons properties, the "Private sub button1_click..." in the code will always have the old name. Is there any way to update this name in the code?

I'm making a program in which there is a form and when opening this form it automatically checks the internet for a csv file and reads the data from it.
the csv file consists of 2 items i need "Provider name , Provider smtp" example:

I've got the part working that when the form loads the online file gets read and the data is shown in a combobox. Only it shows the whole line like 'Chello,smtp.chello.nl'.
What I want (and can't seem to get working) In only the combobox the words before the comma and in a invisible textbox the corresponding smtp line. Ergo when I select option number 4 the right smtp is put into the invisible textbox.

This next program I am working on consists of 3 listbox's. The idea is to have the end user load names in the first and second list box. Then have a button's action when pressed combines the list in listbox1 with listbox2 then gives the output combination in listbox 3.
I also wanted to include some checkbox options such as adding a "_" or "." for every item.

Each project has a starting form , lets call them SF1 , SF2 and SF3 .What I would like to ask you is how can I write code in order to have both the solution and the partial projects , working . I am about to create a tool that draws these sections when they are selected, but as there are 12 different member types, I don't really want to have 12 different Subs for "Draw" that essentially do the same thing.

Can a BackgroundWorker call additional subs? In my program I am connectiong to an OPC Server. I am doing some AsynReads, which in themselves don't take anytime. But Once I get the AsyncReadComplete returned, I want to do the AsyncRead right away. Basically I need to Loop them. The problem now is that while it is doing this, Everything is unresponsive, because it is just going through the loop. So to perhaps rephrase the question, If the BackgroundWorker initiates a process (in this case AsyncRed) would the returned AsyncReadComplete be apart of the BackgroundWorker or seperate Thread?
View 7 RepliesBasicly I have a set of public subs, (not related to a form), inside a public class, and all of them share a variable. One of the subs, the one called for first gives the variable a value.
When the next sub is called, the variable is null. The data in the variable has been erased as the execution of the prior public sub ended I'm guessing.
I'm almost sure that I've seen this somewhere, but I can't find it anymore. Or maybe I'm imagining it, which would'nt be strange either.
When creating a sub or function and adding parameters used when calling it.
-Is it possible to list the parameters that I can enter when using it somewhere in my code?
E.g.
Public Sub MessageMain(ByVal Message As String, ByVal MessageType As String (List of possible values for MessageType)) Same for example as when you have boolean values in a sub/function. As soon as you use that somewhere in your code intellisense will present you with True/False to select.
I'd like the same for parameters in subs or functions I create and calling them from somewhere in my code. Saves me the trouble of remembering which options are available for those parameters.

I'm trying to get a handle on creating my own Interfaces for a project I'm working on. I know the MSDN help shows that all member signatures will become Public when implmented, etc, etc. However, if I implement the IDisposable interface provided by the framework, comments and private members and fields show up! Not only that, but some of the methods have comments and code within!
How did they do that? And can comments, private fields and members, and predetermined code be declared as part of an interface by the average developer?

I want it to check all of the items in the my.settings.ipbank which is a stringcollection. Before it adds and if it already exists in my.settings.ipbank then i want it not to add it. But it just adds when i run it. And then once its added it says: "Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute." But also before i run it. There is a warning saying: Function 'AddTo_IPBank' doesn't return a value on all code paths. A null reference exception could occur at run time when the result is used. Is this something to do with it? I think i have the Next in the wrong place .

For the sake of this thread, what I would like to do is get the name of the label that was clicked which in the code below is already done, convert it to string (not sure if this needs to be done), this is also done in the code below. Next I want to compare the labelnamestring to all the variables in the public class to find out which one it is equal to and then disply that variable which should be my rs232 string in the message box. I have also added "Cmd" to the variable names above so I also need to work out how to add the text "Cmd" to the string to properly compare.

When I develop a Windows Forms app in Visual Studio using C#, every control that I add to my form is by default marked as private, which is what I want.
When using VB.NET, every control is by default marked as Friend (the equivalent of internal in C#), which is not what I want.
Can I just change this default? It seems like surely it's a setting somewhere.
