Probably an easy question to answer...I have 9 buttons on my form
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Private Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click
etc. and all do the same thing so how can I merge them into the same sub so i don't have to copy and paste a bunch?

I have a form named FrmDrvouchers. It contains some public subprocedures.I call these subs from another form which opens from a form which is opened from FrmDrVouchers as a dialog. When I open FrmDrvouchers directly, everything works. But when I call FrmDrvouchers from another project which is also part of this solution, its public subs don't work when I call them from another (dialog) form.
Here is the code of the Button Click from which I open FrmDrvouchers:
Dim FrmDrv As FrmDrVouchers = New FrmDrVouchers()
FrmDrv.Show()
This works, but those public subs don't. Why?It just skip what i want to do, but not throws any Exceptions,Now I m posting my Code,,, plz have a look on that,,Here is my Main form's MenuStrip Button Click code :
Private Sub CashPaymentToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles CashPaymentToolStripMenuItem.Click
Dim DrVouchers As Transactions.FrmDebitVouchers = Transactions.New FrmDebitVouchers()
[code]....

I am trying to write some unit tests on a class that looks like this, using Moq [code] the parameterized constructor is private or internal one of the two methods relies on the result of the other.I want to check that when GetThisOrThat is called with a value, it actually calls GetThis. But I also want to mock GetThis so that it returns a specific well-known value. To me this is an example of Partial Mocking, where we create a Mock based on a class, passing the parameters for the constructor. The problem here is that there is no public constructor, and therefore, Moq can not call it..I tried using the Accessors generated by Visual Studio for MSTest, and use those accessors for the mocking, and this is what I came up with [code]

I don't know if this has been asked before, but we're having a discussion about it today at my job. Should private variables (that are shared/static) be instantiated when they are dimensioned/defined, or is it a better practice to do this inside of a constructor?
Public Class IpCam
Private Const HOST As String = "http://test.com/url/example"
Private Shared _Example As New OurClass(HOST)which one to use?

comparing C# code and VB.NET and the results between the seemingly identical code were entirely different.(Why C# is always winning over VB.NET?)The explanation given is that C# will initialize the class fields, then call the base constructor, but VB.NET does the exact opposite. Is there a technical reason for the languages to be different? At first glance, it seems that either approach is equally valid, but I can't fathom why they wouldn't have selected the SAME approach.
EDIT: As 'Jeffrey L Whitledge' has pointed out, VB6 did not have inheritance, so I don't think we can say 'to keep VB.NET and VB6 more closely related'.

Basicly I have a set of public subs, (not related to a form), inside a public class, and all of them share a variable. One of the subs, the one called for first gives the variable a value.
When the next sub is called, the variable is null. The data in the variable has been erased as the execution of the prior public sub ended I'm guessing.

I have a class that looks like the following:
Public Class Utilities
Public Shared Function blah(userCode As String) As String
'doing some stuff
End Function
End Class
I'm running FxCop 10 on it and it says:"Because type 'Utilities' contains only 'static' Shared' in Visual Basic) members, add a default private constructor to prevent the compiler from adding a default public constructor."

I have a class inside a class.I need to expose the properties of the 2nd class to other classes, therefore it is public. However, I do not wish other classes to be able to create instances of this 2nd class, it should only be instantitated from its parent class.I thought I could resolve this issue by making the constructor of the 2nd class private, but this even prevents the parent class from instantiating its child class! How can I work around this, do I have to make the constructor public and allow anybody to create an instance of the class?

I have a base class, "B", which has two constructors, one with no paremeters and the other that accepts one param, an integer. I have a subclass, "S", which inherits from "B" and does not define any constructors in it. I create an instance of S, attempting to pass to the constructor an integer.
I get the error: Error 1 Too many arguments to 'Public Sub New()"
This surprises me because I thought that if a constructor is not defined in the subclass, S, that the base class constructor method, specifically, the one with the single integer param would be invoked w/o an error. why I am getting this error? Are constructors a special case?

I'm new to C#.Till this moment I used to make every global variable - public static. All my methods are public static so I can access them from other classes. I read on SO that the less public static methods I have, the better. So I rewrote my applications by putting all the code in one class - the form class. Now all my methods are private and there's no static method.
My question: What should I do,keeping everything in the form class is dump in my opinion. When should I use public, when private and when static private/public? I get the public methods as a 'cons' ,because they can be decompiled, but I doubt that.My public methods can be decompiled too. What is so 'private' in a private method? EDIT: I'm not asking how to prevent my program to be decompiled,I'm asking whether I should use static, private and public. And also : Is there are problem in putting all the code in the form class so I dont have to use public methods?

I have a public variable which seems to be going out of scope. I am confused as it has been dimensioned as a public variable: Public xlCell as As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Range
I originally had all my code in the same module in the same project and it was wrapped within a For/Next Loop (Example 1). I decided to clean up my code and make it more modular (Example 2). All the code is still in the same module in the same project.
Upon doing so, my public variable is not recognized in any of the private subs that I have created. I keep getting the following error: Message="Object reference not set to an instance of an object." When I test the variable using ?IsNothing(xlCell) in the Main Sub I get False in the main sub. this tells me te variable is recognized. However as soon as the Call SelectCaseSub() is triggered, I get a True value for ?IsNothing(xlCell). Why is this? Shouldn't this variable be in scope regardless?

I have a situation where I need to make some data available for reading by anyone from a specific device, where the data is pre-loaded on the device, but I cannot allow anyone to create their own device and populate it with their own data in the same format.I know this sounds a little crazy, but there is a good reason!I was planning to use Public Key cryptography, encrypting the data with a public key, but then publishing the private key to anyone who wants to read the data.

I'm relatively new to .NET and am wondering how people handle naming their private variables and the public properties that access them. Like if you want to be able to just read it, but not write to it.
[Code]...
So far I've taken to putting a 'l' (for local) in front of the all the private variables so as to be able to use the full name for the property. Is there a better way around this, or do you just always have to have different names for private variable/public properties? If so, what sort of conventions do people use?
Its not a huge deal, its just a minor annoyance and I was wondering if I was missing something.
