VS 2008 Creating Folder Structure In User's Application Data?
Mar 16, 2010
I want to store my log files in the user's Application Data folder (to avoid all the hassle with Windows 7/Vista UAC permissions). By default, though, the app creates the folder structure like thisAppData/CompanyName/AssemblyName/AssemblyVersion/I just want a single folder without the AssemblyName and AssemblyVersion. Other than removing that info from the project, is there any other to just create a single

I want to copy files with a specific extension (for example .config or .exe). It should create a structure of nested directories, and then insert each file into a specified place in the directory hierarchy. Ideally I would just specify a parent directory for each file and a parent directory for each directory and it would build it.
I need any existing utility or batch file or power-shell script or C#/VB .Net code to perform this activity.

The company require an application that displays coffee usage information for the managers of CostaB Coffee. Sample data has been provided for last years (2011) monthly usage amounts in kilos and is as follows: 400.5, 450, 475.5, 336.5, 457, 325, 220.5, 276, 300, 320.5, 400.5 and 415.
Requirements: The main form will allow the user to enter and store monthly amounts in an appropriate data structure. It will enable the users to calculate the total usage for the 12 month period and average monthly usage. A further requirement for the application is for the users to be able to display the monthly totals in ascending (smallest to highest) and descending (highest to lowest) order of the monthly usage amounts. Utilise appropriate formatting for input/output and include appropriate error trapping and data validation in the application.

I'm looking for a windows "special folder" where user data can be stored and changed PC wide, not only per user.Up to now I've picked the so called COMMONAPPDATAFOLDER, but that doesn't work with a setup project, because the files copied there on installation (like a config file) are not changeable in Vista with a program used by a restricted user (probably because the Windows Installer performs with admin credencials).

I'm working on creating a web application which is going to allow the user to upload a video file to the server. Once the file is uploaded to the server, it's going to be converted to .flv and copied to another folder in the same directory. Since I'm doing this from a web app, I don't want to tie up the app with the conversion process. That is when I figured this might be a good time to try threading the conversion process... what do you think?
Currently, my process logic is this:
1) User presses the upload button.
2) A dummy record is created in the database for the file being uploaded.
3) Folders are created on the server to house the original video file and the converted video file.
4) The original is copied to the server.
5) Once the original is finished being copied, the app converts the original to .flv and saves it in another folder.
6) Information about the conversion process is stored in a .xml file
7) The dummy record is updated with real data
8) There is a redirect to a page that lets the user view the .flv file on the web

I am designing a fairly small application to manage a waiting area for a clinical department. There will be a receptionist who books appointments and updates exisiting appointments to say that a patient has "Arrived". In seperate rooms will be nurses who call patients who have "Arrived" and update the appointment as "In Session" and finally as "Discharged". The appointments are viewed in a flexgrid with nurses across the top and time down the left, patient names are displayed at the relevant times and the cells are shaded a colour to represent the current appointment status ("Booked", "Arrived", "In Session" and "Discharged").
I am using SQL Server as the back-end and Visual Basic 6 (I know) as my front-end.I have been told that there will be 2 or 3 nurses plus the receptionist logged in to the system but I would like to cater for growth. My question is what is the best mechanism to use in order to reflect the status change made by one user on the screens of the other users currently logged in?
I have been thinking about using a timer to refresh the data at a set interval but I do not want to keep hitting the server excessively (although what is considered excessive? we would be talking about a call for data every 60 secs per user). Plus the server could be serving data for many other applications so this is another consideration.Alternatively I have been thinking about sending some kind of message via Winsock to the other users notifying them of data changes as they happen. I don't have a lot of experience with this and am concerned about clients not receiving messages and users seeing old data. It also seems strange to me that once the days appointments have been retrieved from the database that "in theory" a client could go the whole day without having to query the database again to pick up changes - kind of scary. Some information on the data:We would probably be looking at around 100 appointments per day We capture patient name, date of birth, date and time of appointment and appointment status. What is the standard approach / best practice for this kind of scenario?

I have following code somewhere in my VB.NET 2008 program to create an array of files found in a folder:
Dim objFolder As New IO.DirectoryInfo(strXMLImportPath)
Dim arrXMLFiles2Import As IO.FileInfo() = objFolder.GetFiles("*.xml")
...
UpdateFileQ(arrXMLFiles2Import)
[Code] .....
When setting "option strict" to on, I'm getting following error on the line:
lbFileQ.Items.AddRange(dirlist)
Overload resolution failed because no accessible 'AddRange' can be called with these arguments:
'Public Sub AddRange(items() As Object)': Option Strict On disallows implicit conversions from 'System.Array' to '1-dimensional array of Object'.
'Public Sub AddRange(value As System.Windows.Forms.ListBox.ObjectCollection)': Value of type 'System.Array' cannot be converted to 'System.Windows.Forms.ListBox.ObjectCollection'.
Although everything works fine with option strict set to off, I'd like to correct this problem. Also note that array "arrXMLFiles2Import" is used later on in the program, so I can't change anything on that.

I have set paths in my program to look for files in the "c:/Documents and Settings/User/ Local Settings/Application Data/".How do I add the "Documents and Settings/User/Local Settings/Application Data/" folder in the setup program? Everyone tells me to use the Local Settings path for my application data but I can't add this folder in the File System Editor. I have read many different help files concerning special folders but none of them explain how to add the local application data folder.
