VS 2008 Cannot Publish Because A Project Failed To Build

Dec 14, 2010

I am getting two errors

1) Cannot publish because a project failed to build.

2) An error occurred while signing: SignTool.exe not found.

Regarding #1, I can manually build and rebuild the application without error. I only get this error when I try to Publish.

Regarding #2, I looked in my SDKv3.5Bin directory and indeed the signtool was not there. In fact I only had 3 files (genasm.exe, genasm.exe.config, and hidpi.res). I copied the signtool.exe from the Visual Studio 2005, (file dated 10/26/2006), but I still get the same error saying it can not find the file.

I am using Visual Studio 2008 Professional to build a VB.NET console application. I have a text file that I want to copy to the output directory after a build. I would like to create a build event to do that, but I do not see a "Build Events" folder on the property page. Is there a setting where I can get this folder? Or, is there another way I can set up a post-build event to copy a file to the output directory? The folders I see on the Properties page:

Inheritance A Classic React Class Into A User Control To Add The Hight And Width Properties To The Control?

Feb 28, 2011

I tried it and get an error but maybe I'm tring the wrong way. Can a usercontrol inherate an application defined class ie.. could you inheritance a classic rect class into a user control to add the hight and width properties to the control without having to do all the coding all over again? Currently I just declair a private instance of the class within the control and then encapsalate. It would be nice if I could just inherit all the functionality of my classes into controls designed to implament the classes.

Revert The Project To The Last Good Build To Avoid Project Lose?

I made a change to a project and hve induced a major problem. I have warnings and errors now, but I can still debug the project with the "last successful build" Iwould like to just revert everything to that build but I can't find a way to eliminate the problems I induced or find a way to go to a earlier build. Hopefully I can get back to an earlier version or I will loose the entire project as I can no longer get to the designer.

Visual Inheritance From User Control?

Oct 23, 2011

I'm developing a VB app, part of which has a 'diary page' metaphor. The page is a panel and I want to put be able to put several different kinds of events on the panel. I've used a User Control for the first type, which works well, and it occurs to me that this and the other events have many properties and methods in common.

So I am wondering if it is possible or desirable to create a 'base' user control with the common properties and methods and have the other events inherit from that? (I am using the word event in the sense of a meeting or workshop rather than a Windows event).

I know one can do Visual Inheritance from a form and I've made a first attempt at applying the same process to my User Control, but when I open the 'inherited' control in the designer, all the properties are disabled and child controls are locked, even though the access modifier is 'Protected'. But I am still feeling my way with inheritance and I'm probably doing something dumb ...

Another approach would be to use MDI, but that feels a bit 'heavyweight' for this app ....

VS 2008 Make A Release Build Instead Of A Debug Build?

May 3, 2010

I am using 2008 Express Edition. I am trying to make a Release build instead of a Debug build.Under Tools->Options, Projects and Solutions->General - I checked Show advanced build configurations. The option to switch configurations does not show up in the IDE.

After this, I went to the Project Properties->Compile and switched the Configuration from Active(Debug) to Release. After building, I looked in my project directory, however only in the Debug sub-directory was the .exe and nothing in the Release sub-directory.I have used Visual C++ Express Edition, where I noticed that if you do not change to Release in the IDE than after changing to Release in properties, resets the project to the last configuration setting which is usually Debug.how to make the Debug/Release box available in the IDE, since Tools/Options does not make it show up?

Inheritance (Private Overrides Function) - Create A Class And All Other Classes Inherit From It And Modify It A Bit

Oct 15, 2011

I am cleaning up some code and I have multiple classes that are 99% exactly the same. So my understanding is that my options are...

1. Create a class and all other classes inherit from it and modify it a bit

2. Create an abstract class and all classes inherit from it and modify a bit ** I took this route

3. Create an interface and all classes Implement that interface.

Here is my 'original' class below (the one that all of them look 99% identical). This class is used in an arraylist so I have a listing of all my images from a folder I have searched.
