VS 2008 Encryption (OP - Kleinma)

The key or iv for the encryption (which is a series of bytes) could be generated from a user defined password, making it so the key used to decrypt is never stored even in the compiled application. Only providing the main password would provide the key to decrypt the data, limiting the attack surface to pretty much just brute force dictionary attacks.
I think that is probably a bit beyond the scope of this question though, he probably needs to start just saving and recalling data properly.
How would one go about doing this? I've read a little about encryption and I even have a demo program, I just don't understand the overall process of this. (I included the OP in the topic's title because it was his idea, and he might be able to explain it the best).

I based a lot of my project on your Codebank submission for navigating web pages. I have ran into the problem a few times where it would stop navigating. You had recommended deleting the Interop files and rebuilding the solution. I have done this and it used to work just great afterwards (I was deleting all Interops and AxInterops in the Bin/Debug and Obj folders)I now have a strange case where it compiles and builds and navigates as expected on the computer I coded it on, but when I install it on another machine, it fails to navigate again. I made certain it worked directly before building and that I used the correct setup file but nothing I seem to do now cna make it navigate on the second machine. What else should I check?

I was using AxSHDocVw in my program then one day I noticed Navigate2 stopped functioning. Same code worked one day, but then it stopped.
So I found kleinma's Extended WebBrowser control, which I was able to implement nicely. Then I noticed a couple of issues with that.
First Javascript close doesn't close: That is ok, No big deal there.
But the part that I just realized breaks a fairly significant feature in my program.
Before I could execute Javascript with a line of code like: WebBrowser1.parentWindow.execScript(Script, "JavaScript"), but this doesn't work now.
I used this to run ieSpell to spell check in the browser window.[code]...

I have set up a method in vb.net and in xcode for encrypting a string using as far as i can tell the same parameters for an AES encryption.I've looked all over the place but cannot find information on whether they use the same encryption algorithm and settings.
this is the vb.net code:
Dim encryptAES As New AesCryptoServiceProvider()
Dim encoding As New UTF8Encoding()
Dim encryptor As ICryptoTransform
encryptAES.Key = encoding.GetBytes("12345678901234567890123456789032")
encryptAES.IV = encoding.GetBytes("1234567890123416")
encryptAES.Mode = CipherMode.CBC

I am making a Gmail notification program that handles multiple accounts.The user will, obviously, have to input their authentication information for each email account so that the program can save it to login to Gmail with.
What is the best way to encrypt something like that since this information will have to be saved in their harddisk?

I want to try and use the new encryption algorithms provided with .NET 3.5. Any links or examples for how to use one of them to encrypt xml content?
As written on msdn site is:
The following algorithms are included:
Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) with key sizes of 128 and 256 bits for encryption.
Secure Hash Algorithm (SHA-256 and SHA-384) for hashing.
Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) using curves of 256-bit and 384-bit prime moduli for signing. This algorithm is provided by the ECDsaCng class. It allows you to sign with a private key and verify with a public key.
Elliptic Curve Diffie-Hellman (ECDH) using curves of 256 and 384-bit prime moduli for key exchange/secret agreement. This algorithm is provided by the ECDiffieHellmanCng class.

Alright I am trying to make a little login system with encryption. I am trying to see if the user entered in there encryption key, if they did then they can input there account. Same thing with the password textbox. If they already entered in there encryption key then let them type in there password. I am trying to make it so if there text in encryption key then let them type in there account or if they didn't then let them put it in then let them type in there account.
Dim AccountInfo As String
Dim PasswordInfo As String
Dim EncryptionKey As String

I am currently working on a simple data encryption program in VB 2008 express. Basically, I want the user to be able to select any file type and the program will read the data and store it in a text box. The user would then input a key, push the encrypt button and the program would XOR each byte of data with each character from the key and store the data in the third text box. I have written a program that has similar functionality only, it will not read from files, it simply reads data from a text box, so I have a encryption algorithm that works.Here is my

I'm a complete beginner to programming alone, let alone VB.net. What I need to do is encrypt a block of text inputted by a user using a keyword that will also be inputted by the user. This is all to be done using ciphertext, so naturally the user would be informed the keyword can not have any repeating characters. I figure the English alphabet will be predefined in capitals and lowercase, then the keyword will be read character by character, removing those characters from the alphabet array and then appending them to the end of it (to create the new encrypted alphabet). How to read the keyword character by character, and then removing the corresponding letter from the alphabet. The best I can think is to check each character of the keyword against each character of the array which I'm sure is much more work than I need to do.

This seems like it would be so simple and fast, but I cannot figure out how to accomplish it in VB since there aren't many bit functions. I want to take a file and append 5 junk bits at the beginning and 3 junk bits at the end. In essence, just add 1 byte to the file, but in the process offset all the current bits so the file is no longer readable.
I just need a very simple encryption/decryption, but it needs to be very fast as well. I try XORing the bytes, but it gets slow with just a 1MB file. Some of the files are going to be close to 10MB.

If I'm not mistaken PHP crypt() function use DES-based encryption algorithm. So I've search DES Encryption code and all that I found is code that similar to the one in this post http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?t=471798
But with those codes I must enter 8 character lenght salt. Less then that the code wouldn't succeed. In the other hand. The PHP crypt() function only could use 2 character length salt. If you enter more than that, it seems it only use the first 2 character..[URL]

I have been trying to create an app that will do xor encryption. I have tried a few different functions but none of them seem to give me what I want. I need it to put the coded text into a 7 bit ascii string. For example if the key was a - 1100001 and the text to be encrypted was s - 1110011 then it would return 0010010 as the encryption. One of the pieces of code I tried to use
Public Function XOREncryption(ByVal CodeKey As String, ByVal DataIn As String) As String
Dim lonDataPtr As Long
Dim strDataOut As String
Dim temp As Integer
[code]....
This returns a hex digit though which will not work for what I want.

I am attempting to create a program that can do raw RSA encryption (performing the encryption without using 'Encrypt' and 'Decrypt') of a user's message that can contain a-z, A-Z, 0-9, and [,.;:'"()]. I've attached a screen shot of the application form.
Basically, the user will pick from a list of prime numbers from the first box and input them into p and q. They will type their message in the designated textbox and then hit <encrypt> which will encrypt using p and q and then show the encrypted message below. I'll leave out the Key box since that deals with the math behind the encryption.
The part I am stuck on right now is assigning a number to each one of the characters so that it can be encrypted. These numbers need to remain the same so that the message can be decrypted as well.

I'm looking to use RSA Asymmetric encryption to encrypt some data. I've read this article on the forums with a similar title, but it did not answer my question. What I would like to do is use the private key of an RSA key combination to encrypt (sign?) the data and use the public key to decrypt (verify?), as per this wikipedia article . I would like to use this method because I want people to be able to read the data, but not create it themselves. I've copied the code from Peter Bromberg's article RSA Encryption in .NET Demystified , but always get an exception with the "Bad Key" message. If I use the public key for decryption, it works fine (the opposite of what I want). use the public key for encryption.

i have in php two functions, one to encrypt and one to decrypt.
PHP
function Encrypt($message) {$Method = "AES-256-CBC";$passPhrase = "key";$iVector = 1234567890123456;$encryptedMessage = openssl_encrypt($message, $Method, $passPhrase, $iVector);return $encryptedMessage;}function Decrypt($message) {$Method = "AES-256-CBC";$passPhrase = "key";$iVector = 1234567890123456;$decryptedMessage = openssl_decrypt($message, $Method, $passPhrase, $iVector);return $decryptedMessage;}
what i want to do, is encrypt a message, using the same method in vb.net as i do in php, how would i go about doing this?

I've seen a lot of threads on the web discussing about which encryption algorithm is better.According to what I've read, AES encryption algorithm is based on Rijndael's algorithm, and the first is the one being implemented by the US's government to secure TOP SECRET files.From what I've tried RijndaelManaged only supports 128bit long keys (that would be a byte array with 16 byte values, right?) and not 256 as I had first thought; however, AES seems to support 256bit keys (or is it all the way around?), I haven't personally tried DES nor TripleDES.
So, which one is better or more secure? And what's up with asymmetrical encryption? What's the difference? Can both symmetrical and asymmetrical encryption be used for the same thing?

I would like to read the contents of an existing Outlook 2007 PST file by VB.Net. I find already the file and record structure, this is not a problem. But I have a problem with the compressible encryption how is used. Now I have read that this encryption is based on a simple byte-substitution cipher with a fixed substitution table. But unfortunately I can't find this table. Maybe someone can help me where to find this table or where I to find all the necessary information about compressible encryption.
