VS 2008 : Make An Encryption Similar To PHP's Crypt() Function?

If I'm not mistaken PHP crypt() function use DES-based encryption algorithm. So I've search DES Encryption code and all that I found is code that similar to the one in this post http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?t=471798
But with those codes I must enter 8 character lenght salt. Less then that the code wouldn't succeed. In the other hand. The PHP crypt() function only could use 2 character length salt. If you enter more than that, it seems it only use the first 2 character..[URL]

I am trying to essentially convert an Excel spreadsheet into a Windows Form. On the first worksheet I have setup an IF statement to work as a search function =IF(C10="","",VLOOKUP(C10,'Price List'!$A$2:$D$40008,2,FALSE)) to read a price list on a separate worksheet. een using excel extensively. In excel I use vlookup function to connect and retrieve data from other workbooks. I want to know how I can do it in VB. So far I have created a form.The form has say three text boxes viz (i) A unique Number (ii) Name (iii) Address. I want that when I write the unique number in the text box for unique number the other two text boxes i.e. of Name and of Address should be auto populated. I have also established and tested the connection with the access database file using ADO.NET. I do not know whether I need to write an SQL or LINQ query for this purpose or I should write some codes. What should i do it and how should i do it?

I have data from an Informix database that has a column with data encrypted using the Informix function ENCRYPT_TDES. The data was imported into SQL SERVER 2008 and I no longer have access to a running instance of Informix. I need to write a C# or VB.NET function for decrypting that data. Basically I'm trying to make a file browser similar to what XBMC has, a file browser that you navigate with your arrow keys.This is the custom UserControl I made:
The small box on the left will be an icon, I will have a custom icon for directories/files. The label box that says title will be the name of the directory/file.

I am trying to make a key that will be used in file encryption/decryption for my application. However, there is no user data involved with this application (As i would usually use the user's password to generate the encryption key), so i have to turn to another method.
I am thinking that maybe it is possible to generate a completely random key the first time the program runs, then save this key inside the program so that it is inaccessible by the user. The user will not be shown this key, but the key MUST be randomly generated for each application, and it also must stay constant once it is created.

I'm making a seat booking system in vb.net (WinForms) and I need the user to be able to select the seat they wish to use and for it to change colour (so they can tell that it selected).
I began to try using buttons, but 480 buttons seriously slowed down the load time for the form. I then tried a data grid view with buttons in the rows/columns, but couldnt make that work properly.
Would it be worth trying to use 480 picture boxes and change their background colour? Or would that just slow the form down the same way as 480 buttons?

I give a file as parameter it crypts it with anything I don't really care if its safe or not I just want to person to not understand anything if he try's to read the file directly.so something like

I want it to open the file, rechange it to the uncrypted value then close the file. I'm using serialization so it has to be able to crypt and decrypt anything serialization does.
Reason:
When I open the file the file serialized I can still see some text.I can still see some text. =]

I want to pass a List of T where T is an object I've created that has about ten properties (strings, dates and integers).The lst passes to the function successfully. I am also passing an New T of the Object (itm as T).I can see all the values (see image below), but because it's generic I cannot seem to retrieve the property values and I cannot figure out how to iterate through the properties of each itm as they are retrieved in the For Each.[code]

I have a function that I use quite a bit that I wrote more than 2 years ago. It works fine but recently I saw how it can use up a good deal of time under certain condition. Here's some code that uses the function SelectValue The function works so that if you had N which you plug into the function rising continuously while SelectLimit was set to 255 then SelectValue would match N until N reached 256. SelectValue would start to descend to 0 until it reached 0 and then it would again ascend to 255 and the process would repeat. So SelectValue(255, 255) would return 255 and SelectValue(256, 255) would return 254. SelectValue(257, 255) would return 253.

I have a function called DieRoll. In the function I have the following setup.

Everything works as expected as far as generating a random number (1 - 6) is concerned, except for one problem. If I have a series of calls to the function one after another, the numbers come up the same. Is there a way to make sure that each call to the function is much more random?

I have set up a method in vb.net and in xcode for encrypting a string using as far as i can tell the same parameters for an AES encryption.I've looked all over the place but cannot find information on whether they use the same encryption algorithm and settings.
