Use A Function In Vb Similar To Vlookup In Excel?

Jun 22, 2012

een using excel extensively. In excel I use vlookup function to connect and retrieve data from other workbooks. I want to know how I can do it in VB. So far I have created a form.The form has say three text boxes viz (i) A unique Number (ii) Name (iii) Address. I want that when I write the unique number in the text box for unique number the other two text boxes i.e. of Name and of Address should be auto populated. I have also established and tested the connection with the access database file using ADO.NET. I do not know whether I need to write an SQL or LINQ query for this purpose or I should write some codes. What should i do it and how should i do it?

Interface And Graphics :: Link A Class / Object To An Interface?

Apr 21, 2010

I'm trying to make a .dll that contains a lot of basic functionality that a program can use. Currently i am trying to use interfaces to make a lot of this functionallity independend of the program using it but i hit a snag. The Basic idea is that a programmer will create his own object using the interface discribed in my .DLL file. Then implements those functions as he likes. He can then instanciate a controller (found in the same DLL) and sends his custom object implementing the interface to that Controller. The controller can then be started and will take over all the work. I do not know what type of object is send to the controller and idealy i want to program it in such a fashion that i shouldn't care as long as the object send implements that interface.In code I am trying to achieve the following: (quite simplyfied)

.Dll:
Code:
Public Interface MyInterface '<----Decleration of the interfaceFunction GetData() As Integer
Function SetData(Data As Integer)
end interface

[code]....

this propperly. I know that the second i set the interface adaptor in the Controller VS comes nagging that it can not be converted to a "MyInterface" Class. Obviously i am doing something wrong. I can change the datatype that the controller expects to the "MyController" type but that would completely ruin the whole idea of flexibillity. I am hoping someone sees what i am trying to do and can point out where i made the thinking error.

Make A DataGridView Similar To An Excel Function?

I am trying to essentially convert an Excel spreadsheet into a Windows Form. On the first worksheet I have setup an IF statement to work as a search function =IF(C10="","",VLOOKUP(C10,'Price List'!$A$2:$D$40008,2,FALSE)) to read a price list on a separate worksheet. It works by taking a partnumber then puts the description in the next column (description column) and then the price in the "price each" column then finally totalling the row based of the quantity selected (see below).[code]...

I want to test every property and value of two objects to see if they are similar or not,I can understand we can have say two red Ferrari cars but they can not occupy the same space in the same universe!!However they could look similar / identical in every other aspect. I know two cars don't make one object so they are NOT equal.In a similar fashion at run time we could put two Button1 buttons on a Form but they could have separate locations. I want to test two objects that only have the PROPERTY of color or a set of other similar simple properties.How can I test to see if one object is similar to another without testing each property,[code].....

VS 2008 : Make An Encryption Similar To PHP's Crypt() Function?

If I'm not mistaken PHP crypt() function use DES-based encryption algorithm. So I've search DES Encryption code and all that I found is code that similar to the one in this post http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?t=471798

But with those codes I must enter 8 character lenght salt. Less then that the code wouldn't succeed. In the other hand. The PHP crypt() function only could use 2 character length salt. If you enter more than that, it seems it only use the first 2 character..[URL]

Manage A Large Number Of Similar Controls In A User Interface (such As Button Or TextBox Controls)

Aug 23, 2011

There is newer code in a follow up post. I suggest using the code in the later post rather than the code in this one. You can still read this post though. When designing a user interface, one should be conscious of how many individual controls are required to implement the functionality. In some cases an initial design may begin with many buttons or textboxes (for example) but then further review of
the actual required functionality allows for a reduction in the number of unique controls.

But other times, there isn't a better way (which will still make sense to the user of the application) then to have a series of many repeated controls. So in the cases where one can be certain that the best UI implementation for an application will require the use of multiple copies of a given control, then it often becomes necessary to maintain some method of managing all of those controls at various points
throughout the application. Doing so typically requires that one build up some collection of controls which can then be accessed by index in order to work with any given control; but this can lead to a lot of clutter in the code file which handles these control's events. For instance there will be some kind of collection declaration, some recursive routine to find all of the controls of interest, and then any number of event handler methods with long lists of Handles clauses, or additional code loops to wire up the event handling for each control.

Purpose Since most of this functionality could be considered a requirement regardless of the type of control being managed, or its required functionality, it may make sense to wrap all of the control management functionality into a single class. And since our first requirement is a collection of controls, then a base collection class could be the perfect starting point for our control manager. There are a number of existing thread around this topic, with some recent (at the time of this writing) ones being:[URL]..In this, and related, threads I have posted examples of a simple TextBoxManager and ButtonManager control. But again, with so much similar functionality required regardless of the control being managed, it would be technically possible to create a generic ControlManager(Of T As Control) class which can manage any type of control.

[Code]...

So in summary, one can facilitate managing a large number of user interface controls by building a "control manager" class which both encapsulates the list of control instances, and deals with adding and removing defined event handlers for every control it manages. The generic control manager class itself can be inherited and extended into a more specific class on a per-application basis in order to provide more application-specific functionality. .net - Interface Variables (ie Dim X As Iinterface = Object?) And Also If Object Is A Form?

Mar 10, 2010

I've got 3 forms that have exactly the same functions, so I decided to create an interface.

public Interface IExample
public sub Add()
Public sub Edit()

[code]....

At this point, objfrmExample is now instantiated, even though I've not done a "objfrmExpample = new [what-goes-here?] " and I'm curious as to why.I could possibly guess that because you cannot instantiate an interface variable, then vb.net automatically creates an instance. But thats just a guess. The question is , what is meant by declaring a variable of type Interface, and how does it work?

Dim o As List(Of IRequest)
o = New List(Of Request)
Return o

The error below is being given on o = New List(Of Request)

C# - Implementing An Interface Then Calling The Initialize() Function?

Sep 30, 2011

this wont be easy to explain clearly but here goes..i have something that works fine in VB but not in C#.i have 2 classes, each class implements a different interface. each interface exposes an Initialize() function that should get called automatically when the plugin loads. since each class has an Initialize() function, i can watch both functions get called in the log. this works fine in VB.

when i do this same thing in C#, only the Initialize() in the first class gets called. anyone have a clue as to why this might be happening?

[Code]...

as you can see the code is identical in both languages. why does it work in VB and not in C#?

Telling A Generic Function That It Will Use An Interface With A Constructor?

Jan 2, 2011

i've been trying to toy around with generics in vb.net in an example project. At the moment, it looks like this:

I have an interface called IRow (and a class that implements it as a Datarow).

A second interface is ICanGetByRow, which looks like this:

Public Interface ICanGetByRow(Of T)
Function GetByRow(ByVal Row As IRow) As T
End Interface

The function simply takes an IRow and converts it to T. Thats easy enough. Now, for easier access, i want to implement a function in the IRow interface which takes the row and converts it into said ICanGetByRow.

My interface was enhanced by the following function

Function GetObj(Of T As ICanGetByRow(Of T))() As T

You can probably see the problem. If i implemented it like this:

Public Function GetObj(Of T As ICanGetByRow(Of T))() As T Implements IRow.GetObj
Dim foo As New T
foo.GetByRow(Me)
Return foo
End Function

i wouldn't be allowed to construct a new T, and when i tried to make it work by telling the generic function that my interface has a constructor, he wouldn't let me invoke GetByRow anymore.

Public Function GetObj(Of T As New, ICanGetByRow)() As T Implements IRow.GetObj
Dim foo As New T
foo.GetByRow(Me)
Return foo
End Function

how to tell a generic function that it will get a ICanGetByRow(of T) which has a constructor

Interfaces - Is ISomething An Interface Or An Object Or Both

Oct 13, 2011

I'm working on learning VB.Net after having programmed in VB6, VBA, and VBScript for several years. I'm assuming that something that begins with the letter I is an interface. However, a lot of places I see people/documentation referring to what appears to be class objects that begin with I. I guess I'm under the impression that Interfaces are contracts that class objects can agree to.

Drag Drop If Object Implements Interface

Sep 2, 2010

I have an interface, for the sake of argument called MyInterface.I Have a Control Class, lets name it "Parent" that implements MyInterface.I have another Control Class that inherits Parent, called "Child".I have a final Control Class lets call it "Container", that accepts dragging the parent onto it.[code]I want to modify this not to only accept Parent, but to accept ANYthing that implements MyInterface. I can't figure out how the heck to get it to work. Even more confusing, if I drag the child onto Container, with the code as it is above(checking to see if a Parent was dropped), GetDataPresent always returns false. I would figure it would work, since Child inherited parent.[code]But it bombs and GetDataPresent returns false whether I dragged a Parent or a Child. I'm being an idiot somewhere..
