Test To See If One Object Is Similar To Another Without Testing Each Property?

Jun 9, 2011

Object.Equals I can understand but has anyone got or written an Object.Similar function? I want to test every property and value of two objects to see if they are similar or not,I can understand we can have say two red Ferrari cars but they can not occupy the same space in the same universe!!However they could look similar / identical in every other aspect. I know two cars don't make one object so they are NOT equal.In a similar fashion at run time we could put two Button1 buttons on a Form but they could have separate locations. I want to test two objects that only have the PROPERTY of color or a set of other similar simple properties.How can I test to see if one object is similar to another without testing each property,[code].....

Asp.net - Swapping A Connection String To Access A Test Database For Unit Testing?

Jun 22, 2009

I've set up a test database to begin unit-testing an app that I've recently been added to. It is a 3-tier design (presentation layer, BOL and DAL) and this is my first time writing unit tests. I've decided to start at the BOL and I figure the best way is to swap out the ConnectionString (which has been passed along as a Shared String) with one that points to my new test database. However, I don't wish to change any production code. I simply wish to somehow redirect the app to the test database during unit tests.

Unit Testing - Should Each And Every Property Of Entity Be Tested

May 20, 2010

I have been reading some articles on unit testing but I still have some questions.

- What should be tested if we want to test if an entity can be saved or not?
- Should we test each and every property of the entity?
- If I have a solution consisting or 3 projects, will the unit test go become the 4th project?

Error: Option Strict On Disallows Operands Of Type Object For Operator '='. Use The 'Is' Operator To Test For Object Identity

Jan 27, 2010

I am tightening up my coding with the Option Strict set to ON. It has now produced alot of errors. An example of this is:

If AllocatedDGV.Rows(i).Cells("RoomNumber").Value = RoomsAvailableDGV.Rows(j).Cells("RoomName").Value Then

It gives me the following error: Option Strict On disallows operands of type Object for operator '='. Use the 'Is' operator to test for object identity.

Option Strict On Disallows Operands Of Type Object For Operator Use The 'Is' Operator To Test For Object Identity

Apr 6, 2012

I need to write an interface to get data to/from our data files.

We have a low level class that holds field values for each record read from the files.

This just holds two values, the value read from the file (DBValue) and the updated value that may need to be written back to the file (CurrentValue).

These values may be any of the standard value types (integer, date etc) or a string.

Either value (DBValue or CurrentValue) may be null if not defined.

I have written the class to manage this data which works fine while option strict is NOT on.

But we have an office policy of having option strict on all the time.

When I put option strict on, my object value comparisons fail with the error: "Option Strict On disallows operands of type Object for operator '='. Use the 'Is' operator to test for object identity."

Question, how should I change the following code to handle option strict on ...

This is all running on Visual Studio 2010

Sql - Unit Testing The Data Access Layer - Testing Update Methods?

May 15, 2009

I'm looking into adding some unit tests for some classes in my data access layer and I'm looking at an update routine that has no return value.It simply updates a row based on the id you provide at whichever column name you provide.Inside of this method, we collect the parameters and pass them to a helper routine which calls the stored procedure to update the table.Is there a recommended approach for how to do unit testing in such a scenario?

Reflection - Find From A Property Info Object If That Property Has A Non Public (Private / Protected) Setter?

Aug 27, 2009

I searched on the forum / Internet for the solution how a PropetryInfo object (of a Public property) can reveal if it has a Private Protected Setter ... it was all in vain .... all help I found was about how to "Set" value of a public property having a Private Setter.I would like to know if I have a PropertyInfo object of a public property, how would I know if its Setter is Non Public?

I tried, in a exception handling block, where I did a GetValue of the PropertyInfo object and then called SetValue by setting the same value back... but to my surprise it worked well and didn error out.

.net - Unit Testing C# InternalsVisibleTo() Attribute For NET 2.0 While Testing?

May 13, 2010

I'm building an Active Directory wrapper in VBNET 2.0 (can't use later .NET) in which I have the following:

IUtilisateur
IGroupe
IUniteOrganisation

These interfaces are implemented in internal classes (Friend in VBNET), so that I want to implement a façade in order to instiate each of the interfaces with their internal classes. This will allow the architecture a better flexibility, etc.Now, I want to test these classes (Utilisateur, Groupe, UniteOrganisation) in a different project within the same solution. However, these classes are internal. I would like to be able to instantiate them without going through my façade, but only for these tests, nothing more.

Handle An Object's Object Property Changed Event In .NET Windows Forms?

Jun 7, 2012

I know how to handle a single objects property changed event very easily. I want to handle a objects property changed event that is part of another object.

Given Object:

[ObjectY = Y]
+ Public WithEvents X As ObjectX

I would like to do something like:

Private Sub XPropertyChanged() Handles Y.X.PropertyChanged

Right now I need to create a object that equals the object inside that object and then handle this variable pointers property changed, but that is just annoying.

.net - Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object: Child Property?

Nov 21, 2011

I'm checking If a border's child property is not set to nothing or equal to a given element, but whenever I run the program, it says that it's set to nothing and crashes. Here's my code:

If Not Me.Child.Equals(Nothing) Then ...
If Me.Child.Equals(value) Then ...

Both gives an error. What should I do to pass these lines? Also in C# it would look like this:

if(this.Child != null) ...
if (this.Child != value) ...

But this time it doesn't give an error.

Class Property Specifying An Object?

Mar 9, 2012

I'm currently writing a HMI for an automated machine in VB.Net 2010. I have a custom class that turns a Border green or red depending on the value of an input on a remote I/O module.

The connection to the remote I/O module is through a COM object provided by the manufacturer. I have three remote connections, lets' call them g1, g2, and g3. They're of type Manufacturer.ConnectionObject.

I would like to specify, using a property that I can set in XAML, that instances of MyCustomBorder use g1, g2, or g3. Unfortunately, setting up a Property called g and typing 'g1' into the property field results in the message "Property value is not valid. Details: Property 'g' does not support String to Value conversion."

[code...]

I need to implement a converter between String and the custom class, Manufacturer.ConnectionObject, but I have no idea how to accomplish this, especially since Manufacturer.ConnectionObject is part of a closed-to-me COM object.
