Make A Large Grid Of Buttons (24x20 Or Similar) Using Winforms?

I'm making a seat booking system in vb.net (WinForms) and I need the user to be able to select the seat they wish to use and for it to change colour (so they can tell that it selected).
I began to try using buttons, but 480 buttons seriously slowed down the load time for the form. I then tried a data grid view with buttons in the rows/columns, but couldnt make that work properly.
Would it be worth trying to use 480 picture boxes and change their background colour? Or would that just slow the form down the same way as 480 buttons?

My VB application is behaving strangley. I have form with fairly large number of controls. I am using case against radio buttons. after curtain number of buttons, it stops responding to more radio buttons.
Then I tried to split controls in to 2 form but now my form.showdialog() too now working properly. It takes new from names but show the old form when running.

I have a lot of such buttons in my main form. They all do the same thing like this. get the text and pass to some other routine. If i have 20 buttons, then i will have 20 such subroutines. Is there a better (or standard way) to do this without creating that many subroutines?

In VB6 I could set up code to loop through say 10 option buttons to check their values. The code would be something likie this:[code]But in VB .NET it seems that if I use the Controls command as above I cannot use/check the Checked property as Control does not take that as a property of Control. It seems also that I may have to use the Find property of Control as in "Controls.Find" etc.How can I do this in VB .NET? I have a very control intensive application and I must be able to easily loop through controls and check their values without writing out 10 x the code required.

I am currently helping to write a Visual Basics program that was originally writing with access.The Original Access program has been used and modified over the past 5 years, During that time the database has gotten pretty big.The problem I am having is If I add the entire database to my data sources it creates data tables for every Table and Stored procedure even when they are not currently used in the program resulting in a 20+ minute build time just to debug.I am currently only adding Tables and Stored Procedures as i need them, so its not that much of a problem now, but as I continue to work and add tables the build time is going to go back up, and Id hate to have to wait 20+ minutes to test a small tweak I made.

There is newer code in a follow up post. I suggest using the code in the later post rather than the code in this one. You can still read this post though. When designing a user interface, one should be conscious of how many individual controls are required to implement the functionality. In some cases an initial design may begin with many buttons or textboxes (for example) but then further review of
the actual required functionality allows for a reduction in the number of unique controls.
But other times, there isn't a better way (which will still make sense to the user of the application) then to have a series of many repeated controls. So in the cases where one can be certain that the best UI implementation for an application will require the use of multiple copies of a given control, then it often becomes necessary to maintain some method of managing all of those controls at various points
throughout the application. Doing so typically requires that one build up some collection of controls which can then be accessed by index in order to work with any given control; but this can lead to a lot of clutter in the code file which handles these control's events. For instance there will be some kind of collection declaration, some recursive routine to find all of the controls of interest, and then any number of event handler methods with long lists of Handles clauses, or additional code loops to wire up the event handling for each control.
Purpose Since most of this functionality could be considered a requirement regardless of the type of control being managed, or its required functionality, it may make sense to wrap all of the control management functionality into a single class. And since our first requirement is a collection of controls, then a base collection class could be the perfect starting point for our control manager. There are a number of existing thread around this topic, with some recent (at the time of this writing) ones being:[URL]..In this, and related, threads I have posted examples of a simple TextBoxManager and ButtonManager control. But again, with so much similar functionality required regardless of the control being managed, it would be technically possible to create a generic ControlManager(Of T As Control) class which can manage any type of control.

So in summary, one can facilitate managing a large number of user interface controls by building a "control manager" class which both encapsulates the list of control instances, and deals with adding and removing defined event handlers for every control it manages. The generic control manager class itself can be inherited and extended into a more specific class on a per-application basis in order to provide more application-specific functionality. You have a pseudo-table class and a pseudo-row class. The row is somewhat generic and has no strongly-typed fields. It follows the typical dictionary interface

All these buttons are having background images. Now what i want is these buttons be shown as inactive when actions corresponding to them are not available so I am making them cmd.enable = false but still on UI there is no visual effect of this disabling them on these buttons.

I have a custom collection, lets says COL, that derives from ObjectModel.Collection. I have my own collection editor that works fine when a property, of type COL, is Read and Write enabled. However, if I change the property to ReadOnly, the open editor button stops showing in the property grid. As a test, I override my custom editor with the CollectionEditor, and that worked fine. So, my question is, what check is the property grid making, that CollectionEditor passes but my collection editor fails?

I have a class that has a readonly collection property - Its a list of extender providers that have been applied to the control.I've implemented a simple property descriptor for the collection so that the property can be expanded in the property grid to examine each entry.
When I select an extender provider and set it to false, I remove it from the collection. The GetProperties method of the type converter is requeried and the property grid refreshes.However, when I set an extender provider to true, and thus add it to the collection, GetProperties is not requeried.
Somehow, the property grid is making a distinction between adding to and removing from the collection. Or alternativly, its refreshing when an extender provider is added, but not when one is removed.

I had a strange problem editing a class in the property grid whereby the property grid would refresh incorrectly.I managed to reduce the problem down to a class with just two properties. I've included the code at the end to ease explanation.It basically boils down to a class with two properties. The first of which is expandable (a font)The class itself is expandable and also implements the CreateInstance method in the type converter.To see the problem, expand the font, edit, say 'Bold', and tab away. Two problems happen:
(1) The second property jumps up and ends up in the expanded font property.
(2) The '-' sign of the expanded font changes to a '+'.
The problem goes away by attaching ResfreshProperties(RefreshProperties.All) to the class. That's great, but I'd like to understand how it fixed the problem. I've had a look in reflector and can't find any examples of RefreshProperties being attached at the class level.

I want to color the high priority rows red, low ones blue, etc. I'd like to set the shade based on a mathmatically calculated gradient rather than arbitrarily assigning colors to specific priorities. I have pairs of controls: immagebox + textbox = one pair.I want these to show up in a single column grid/tabular format.Each cell contains one image/text pair.I want this grid to scroll because the number of pairs is dynamic depending on a user selection.I suppose I will be adding these controls in code at runtime when the user makes his/her selection.

I am trying to essentially convert an Excel spreadsheet into a Windows Form. On the first worksheet I have setup an IF statement to work as a search function =IF(C10="","",VLOOKUP(C10,'Price List'!$A$2:$D$40008,2,FALSE)) to read a price list on a separate worksheet. Basically I'm trying to make a file browser similar to what XBMC has, a file browser that you navigate with your arrow keys.This is the custom UserControl I made:
The small box on the left will be an icon, I will have a custom icon for directories/files. The label box that says title will be the name of the directory/file.

If I'm not mistaken PHP crypt() function use DES-based encryption algorithm. So I've search DES Encryption code and all that I found is code that similar to the one in this post http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?t=471798
But with those codes I must enter 8 character lenght salt. Less then that the code wouldn't succeed. In the other hand. The PHP crypt() function only could use 2 character length salt. If you enter more than that, it seems it only use the first 2 character..[URL]

I have used VB (versions 2 - 6) through many years; however, I am crash-course training myself into the VB2008 / VB2010 world kicking a screaming. I would like suggestions as to what SQL database access method should I focus more on in my learning process without making me feel that I'm a million years behind. I know I have WinForms where I can create a datasourse and drag / drop fields or tables on a form to create a grid (not really what I'm looking for).
My trouble isn't so much designing the form but in how I access the database. Theres XML, LINQ to SQL, ADO.NET, and many other methods. Not only do I need to grasp these methods quickly but I also need to know what type of projects I should create. What I mean is...I was thinking that I would design a WinForm app; however, I see that there are WPF apps and others to chose from. This is getting deep. I know it depends on the project that I'm working on. My plans are to write an app based off of either an SQL Express 2008 or SQL Server 2008 database. This first app will be standalone for now but may later become multi-user. I know I'm far behind on my learning curve coming from VB6. I have read a bit on VB2005 / 2008 / 2010. I own
both VB2008 and VB2010. I use VB2008 at work. I know ADO.NET is still alive but by what I read online, it's a dying method and is only kept for backward compatibility. XML and LINQ to SQL and other methods are all pretty new to me.
