I have pairs of controls: immagebox + textbox = one pair.I want these to show up in a single column grid/tabular format.Each cell contains one image/text pair.I want this grid to scroll because the number of pairs is dynamic depending on a user selection.I suppose I will be adding these controls in code at runtime when the user makes his/her selection.

I am trying to group various controls (of the same type, e.g., labels together, buttons together, etc.) on a form using a tag or a name of some sort so I can identify all those that belong to tag 'A' and those in tag 'B'. In the end I will have on a form a number of labels grouped as tag 'A' and some labels as tag 'B' so I can change their visible properties on/off.
View 4 RepliesI have a query about dynamically added controls to a form. I have a series of buttons which are created and added at run time. I have a two drop down lists and two buttons which are created at design time. Button 1 creates a series of buttons called "Test 1.x" based upon the selection of the two drop down lists. This works fine and am happy with the logic.However.... Button two should remove all the dynamically created buttons from the form.This does not happen. What does happen is that 50% of the buttons are removed starting with the first one. WHen checking the loop it only enters the loop half the amount of times that there are buttons. Very strange. When the loop is run repeatability it will remove all controls. Why will my logic not remove all the dynamically created controls at once? What is wrong with my logic?

I am creating a windows application which required Dynamic Connection String in the app starting (user need to provide db credentials through a form), After entering the connection credentials user redirected to new win form Everything is working fine but how can I pass my dynamic connection to another form.I tried to save it to App variable but I couldn't (I think its read only) Also I tried save it to registry but can't retrieve values.Is there any other option available ? like writing & retrieving ConString to a text file or XML.

I am trying to develop unit tests for the GUI forms using NUnit and the NUnit Forms extension. (I've been looking at c# examples that are fairly easy to port over if you have a solution but don't know VB syntax as long as it uses NUnit classes)
I will try and explain what I am doing but first a brief description of the program. It basically monitors server activity. You need to connect to a server via a modal form with IP and Port fields(amongst others). Once you have connected to a server other parts of the program unlock and become usable (such as configuration of the server).
Desired process: Load program > click connect button > modal connect form loads > enter details > click OK to connect > main form updates to logged-in state > other functionality
The problem is that I cannot test the functionality of the connect form and then the logged-in functionality of the program. I can test that it loads the modal connect form correctly; enters the details and clicks OK (all fine so-far) but it does not appear to logically progress the program. The modal form just closes again seemingly without running the connect code from the program back-end and I'm back at the main menu not logged in to anything.
I have a feeling that I've either missed something really obvious or that it's simply not doable in NUnit.I have trawled the internet in search of anything similar but the closest was another SO thread that was really generic. Without being able to actually test the logged-in version of the program, I'm at a major hurdle.Another issue is handling message boxes that don't have unique identifiers (e.g. "are you sure you want to exit?"); these also seem to be a major pain in the arse with NUnit (If it makes any difference, I'm running the tests as a stand-alone project using a reference to the executable file of the built project, not the actual source)

I'm using the following code to validate the text entered by user. It works perfectly fine. But I want to add the backspace feature so as to allow the user to delete the wrongly entered number.I have tried a couple of things and they worked but before last digit (after the decimal point) i.e. it does not allows to delete after the number has been completely entered.number is being entered in the format: 12313213.45

I would like to write a LINQ query which will have the following result:
Headers: Lorem, IpsumName1, IpsumName2, ..., IpsumNamen
Values: Loremi, count(IpsumName1), ..., count(IpsumNamen)
Each row represents a group of Lorem value and the number of each possible IpsumID in the group. New rows can be added to the IpsumTypes table, rows can be deleted too, so I need dynamically generated columns, because at the time of writing the code I'm not aware of the possible values of Ipsum. How can I achieve this? Is there a magical Linq query which solves this problem, or should I get the values from the database and parse them separately, if speed counts?

I want my DataGridView to update when a change has been made to the List i.e. if the objects are resorted, added to or deleted from etc.Currently my DataGridView only displays the first object I add to the List, if I add more the DataGridView doesn't update to display the new objects added.This is a basic overview of how im coding it:

I have to design a custom "log grid" control to use in another of my projects.Up front, I am new to vb.net 2008. I have used VB6 for years and I am trying to learn how to resove the differences as I go. But I need help.
This log grid contains 96 columns and 4 rows.I tried using the TableLayoutPanel and a Panel per cell but found the control to slow to paint. That's 384 discreet controls.I am now trying a usercontrol with a panel and GDI+ to create the grid. I've created a collection for the columns and a collection for the rows. So far so good. My mouse clicks raise the correct events per cell.
I now need to indicate which column the mouse is over. This is the problem. The column must be highlighted by a vertical bar from the top of the column to the bottom. It must also be transparent. I need to see the gridlines under the highlight. I've tried using region using the following code. (myRegion is declared Private MyRegion as Region at module level for persistance)

In C# Windows Forms, a user control's InitializeComponent is called from the form's/control's constructor. When I create same scenario in VB.NET I don't get a constructor, and I can't locate a place where InitializeComponent is called.I need to call my code between InitializeComponent and when the control's Load event is raised, preferably still in the control's constructor. I can RIGHT click anywhere in the grid without disturbing an existing highlight, but I want it to work more like windows explorer would in terms of file selection..
i.e. if I right click inside the range, the range stays, if I right click outside the range, the range moves to a new single cell that I just right flicked.
Try it now on this page. Select some text, right click on the selection and it stays. Right click outside the selection and it goes. In datagrid (for example), the selection can only be modified with a left click.
How can we change this so the selection behaviour of a datagrid/list is more like this text pane?
On a related note. If I left click in a textbox I can drag a selection out. If i wanted to right click and drag the selection out, would it be the same process? (It's for a custom string manipulation picker control..)
trying to load a string that's in xaml format (to preserver formating) from an sql server db into the Windows.Controls.RichTextBox. I'll also be wanting to save to the db. I'm able to save and load to file by using a filestream and textrange but I'm having trouble figuring out how (and finding online samples) of how to go to and from a db. I've also tried using the .text property of the RTB but here i see the raw xaml text; the rtb didn't render the xaml.

I'm building an app that list information. It will have list of each object going vertically, with the information about the object going horz across that line. My issue is I need to scroll through these lines, however each line will contain text, images, scroll bar, button, etc. Just common control items. I first started off grouping them in a panel (panel being everything needed in that one line of information). I was thinking I could spawn more identical panels, one for each object listed. I also tried this using a UserControl (not sure if this is the right thing to do). I just need a simple panel or area that I can layout my controls as need, then create identical panels as needed for each line. Then I can just scroll through then using some script to mod there location. Panel? UserControl? I've tried the usercontrol, however I coudlnt get it to show on the form.
View 5 RepliesI vaguely remember something about a hotkey or menu that would group controls together at design time so you could drag 2 or more controls around and they would remain relative to eachother. You could work on something else and come back and the controls would still be grouped.

With several forms of mine, I occasionally run into the following issue: I edit the form using the designer (Visual Studio 2008, Windows Forms, .NET 2.0, VB.NET) to add components, only to find out later that some minor adjustments were made (e.g. the form's size is suddenly changed by a few pixels), and controls get deleted. This happens silently — event-handling methods automatically have their Handles suffix removed, too, so they never get called, and there's no compiler error. I only notice much later or not at all, because I'm working on a different area in the form.
As an example, I have a form with a SplitContainer containing an Infragistics UltraListView to the left, and an UltraTabControl to the right. I added a new tab, and controls within, and they worked fine. I later on found out that the list view's scrollbar was suddenly invisible, due to its size being off, and at least one control was removed from a different tab that I hadn't been working on.
Is this a known issue with the WinForms Designer, or with Infragistics? I use version control, of course, so I can compare the changes and merge the deleted code back in, but it's a tedious process that shouldn't be necessary. Are there ways to avoid this? Is there a good reason for this to occur?
One clue is that the control that was removed may have code (such as a Load event handler) that expects to be run in run time, not design time, and may be throwing an exception. Could this cause Visual Studio to remove the control?
