I'm trying to create an inherited version of the ListView control that (among other things) should have a different background image if the listview is empty to if it has items.Obviously you can easily enough test the count of the collection, but I need to be able to react to the event, however there doesn't appear to be any event related to adding/removing items.

I am trying to add the file information of the contents of a folder to a collection. Although I am getting the collection to hold the correct number of items that the folder contains, all of the collection's items are the details of the last file in the folder.
I'm trying to use a loop to go through each item contained in the folder and then adding the item details to a collection with the following line

I have two tables "Person" and "Alias" in a one to many relationship. I have a DGV for "Person" and want to use a combobox for the Aliases. I also have a textbox and a button for the user to type the alias name and click the button to add the alias name to the combobox and update the dataset. I keep getting the "Items collection cannot be modified when the DataSource property is set." Error. But if i use a DGV instead of a combobox for aliases, I have no errors and everything works fine. If I remove the datasource property for the combobox it will not get populated with the data already entered, so how, or can I, set it up where the combobox gets populated when the form loads and able to add items to the combobox????

I've got the collection and the items that the collection holds working ok, and I've got a handle on how I'm going to display the information on the face of the UserControl. However, my problem is how to fire the Method that displays the thumbnail on the face of the UserControl when a new Item is added to the Collection?
View 2 RepliesI have roughly 20 text boxes on my form,When you press tab, it naturally selects all text in the box (highlighted in blue), so you can press any key, and it replaces it with that,That result is what I want, unfortunately, if you click into the text box, and tab back to it, it no longer selects all the text.I'm wondering how I can detect the tab event properly,I've tried adding a 'KeyDown' event to each text box, and then selecting the text, but the sub never runs, also tried detecting the tab event in my Main Form, thinking that perhaps the parent handles it and will receive that event, but.. No.I've thought of using an event like 'Activated' however, it will also run when the mouse is clicked.

I want to retrieve the selected items in a listbox, save them to a collection, and then use that collection later. I thought that was simple enough, but when I clear the selected items in the listbox, my collections (items, indices) change. I found this out by stepping through the code.
Basically what I'm wanting to do is move items in the listbox up or down (up in this case), and still keep them selected.

currently in my application I have a Global Collection that is a Collection of Collections.Currently I am trying to add items/ elements to one of the child collections of the Global Collection but I am unable to use the collections methods of the child.When I assign a variable to the child collection and return the collection it is just an object with the collection inside.
Ex:

Due to the application requirements, I need the Collection and Items to send immediate notice of various changes that occur to the Collection Class and its items. I've already got my events set-up regarding for the Collection Class, but I'm struggling with coming up with a workable solution for raising events for the items.
I've got an event for the DeviceLayer item set-up, but how do you transfer that event through the CollectionClass so that any other class using it will see that there was a change to one of the items in the collection?

I am developing a parental control application containing a feature that logs a user off of the computer after an administratively set period of time. I do not however want the application to continue counting time against the time limit when the user is not active on the computer. EXAMPLE: Child logs on and is active for an hour then leaves computer for 45 minutes to get dinner. The session timer needs to ignore the 45 minutes of inactivity. I have thought of two ways to accomplish this.
1) Use a SystemEvents.SessionSwith event (to detect the Start Menu > Log Off > SwitchUser action), or
2) Use an event which would detect user inactivity in excess of a set time, e.g. 5 minutes (similar to a screensaver).
Either event would call a method which would simulate a pause feature (as StopWatch and Timer have no pause support that I know of). I believe the 2nd option would prove to be more universally affective as 1) some users do not have Fast User Switching enabled, and 2) users would be required to manually switch users in order to prevent their inactive time from counting against them. My problem arises when I attempt to implement one of these methods. According to the IntelliSense error checking engine, I have absolutely no clue how to do either of these tasks in spite of the research I have conducted on the topic. I would prefer to go with the system idle time approach.

What i was trying to do is put text in [COLUMNHEADER3] besides each of the names, so if "Graham's" details exist then put "PASSED" beside the name "Graham" and "FAILED" if it's failed, i'm not sure how to access the 3rd columns details to put that in is it:

Now Here's my confusion. And i spotted at least one other person on here who was asking the same thing about this.But got no real clear answer that i could see. as a test to compare i tried his suggestion and loaded the same listview up in both a vb6 app and a vb.net app..The list i used was quit large so the comparison would be very through..my list was in the 80,000 lines range tho..yeah talk about overkill The vb6 app checked/unchecked the items within a matter of milliseconds..the vb.net took an extremely long time tho..well not extreme but was very noticeably slower about doing the loops.

I have a listview with 5 columns want when i click a button to merge some items into each other, like this:
I have 20 items in it. When i click the button it should look after items with the same text in the 2 column.Say it found 3 items that has the same text in the 2 column. Then it should the integers from the 3 column and add to each other.

However, no errors are shown, the items are not added to the ListView. Also, if i check the values of "artist", it is populated, as are the rest. It just, for some reason, does not add to a listview on another form.

I then edit the items or add new ones, and on form dispose, the file is supposed to be saved containing the listview items, but when I step through this process, mylistview.items.count is said to be zero, which I know is not true because I can see the items right on my screen, I added them myself.[code]I use this same method for saving and loading to and from listboxes, and it works fine.

Each item is specific for each group. The problem I have is that when I maximize the form to full size, and everything expands, the items change positions into something like this:

How can I make the listview keep the items in the "row" view always, instead of the "column" view whether I maximize or not?
I need to loop inside listview and its columns Sub Items. I'm currently using this.
