View 6 RepliesImagine a small application, myApp.exe, that contains one button and a textbox. You drop the application into any folder anywhere on your hard drive, run it, click the button and the textbox says something like this: The full path to the location of this application is:
C:Documents and SettingsColinMy DocumentsDownloadsmyApp.exe
How can the application discover the path to its own location?
I've been doing a lot of coding latley and I'm interested in some things that vb can do. I was wondering if vb has the ability to search a directory for a file or mutipule files within a folder. Like in dos I can do C:user*.* and I can get all files that have . in them. Is there a similer way to do this in VB, I don't think VB has a wildcard or I've not heard that it does so I'm comfused on how I would find a file if I didn't know the path.
View 2 RepliesI have researched the Internet and found more than a few potential solutions, but I keep getting errors on a Windows 7 machine. Here's the scoop. I have an application written in VB.NET that launches a console application. The console application will run independently of my VB.NET app, so the user can close and restart the VB.NET app and potentially start a second session of the console app from the same installation.

I suppose technically this isn't .NET specific but I suspect this is something to do with the registry and I'm using .NET!I'm trying to find out how to get the fully qualified path relating to a file type.For example, the system knows that to open a PDF file it needs to launch C:Program FilesAdobeAdobe Reader 10.0Readeracrord32.exe
I've had a good long search through the registry and found a lot of references to the adobe path probably too many - and I've edited them to try and "break" the process so I can identify which one is used to discover the path but with no luck. I'm assuming this has something to do with HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT?
I need to have the webbrowser on the selected tab dimmed, so like Dim foundbrowser = TabControl1.SelectedTab.Controls.Find("WebBrowser", False)i know thats totally wrong but its just to show you what i kind of need, how do i do this? View 3 RepliesSo basically, I am running through my selected path recursively and returning the results to an array.. I think.
vb.net
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Dim path As New FolderBrowserDialog
If path.ShowDialog = Windows.Forms.DialogResult.OK Then
Me.TextBox1.Text = path.SelectedPath

I was told that to return the search to an array, I add the return toarray() at the end.
Now obviously Im not getting errors, but I am also not polling the results that are in fileslist.toarray(). I've looked at arrays quite a bit, I see their functionality if they are defined like myarray(4) with 5 declared array values... its an array with 5 value places. And to read from any one of the 5, you'd say something like msgbox(myarray(3)) to call the 3rd place in the array.
Well, as you can tell from the code, I am putting a variable amount of information into the array, How can I call that information? If I scanned a folder with 300 files, how can I call the results of that array and put them in a text file, or console, or messagebox through them? And assume I am doing it through a button click event. So, button click to read all input in the array to console or something like that.
I have a simple Windows application, it list all Directories from a specified path in a liestview. My Listview have 2 column. First one show only icons and second one is the name of the Directory. View 7 RepliesIs there a better way of finding the path of a file that was opened with the open file dialogue? This is what I did. It works, but it seems like there should be a way to get the path through one of the open dialogue options.
Code:

'm_PicSource is a global var
Dim strCnt As Integer = m_PicSource.Length - 1

Here is my snippet:
private void btnBrowseCInv_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
ofdBrowseVInv.Title = "Locate Customer Invoice File";
ofdBrowseVInv.Filter = "Portable Document Format (*.pdf)|*.pdf|All Files (*.*)|*.*";

As you see below, once a user pick a file and click open. I want the selected path to show on the pointed text box which is named "txtInvoicePathCInv".
How would I split Folderbrowserdialog1.selectedpath to remove the selected folder but keep the path to it, e.g C:Folder1Folder2Selectedfolder becomes C:Folder1Folder2
