Which routines in the code are run on the worker thread?
Is the object created on the worker thread?
And are its events run on the worker thread?
How to handle the Cancel. The way I did appears tp work except that
e.Cancelled does not return as true (Done is displayed).
And suppose the object didn't have events how would I handle Cancel?
Is there a better way to handle the basic problem?
I wish the code was shorter but wanted to be sure I prsented the problem.

I'm filling a FlowLayoutPanel with PictureBoxes at runtime, each picturebox has an image from the List(of Image). Depending on the selected folder, loading the images "freezes" the program, so I want to use a BackgroundWorker. I'm having problems with "Cross-thread operation not valid". I want to fill the FlowLayoutPanel with the images from selected folder and a ComboBox with the names of the files.

The problem is that when SendMessage fills the textbox, then clicks "Query" (hWndQuery) my application freezes up until the query is finished running, which sometimes can take up to 20 minutes depending on the query. Any way to force the program to be responsive after it 'clicks' the query button?

We are currently using arrays so we can open multiple chat rooms and at this current time to open a chat room we use

The form opens but freezes.
I have also tried using

Using the above code, the form does not freeze but appears we can not access any of the controls such as (RTB)
What would be causing the form to freeze on .show(), Has anyone else had any similar issues?
I have a program that has multiple tabs, with roughly 100 - 400 controls of varying types on each area. The program takes about...4 seconds to load, which I don't think is right.I did a few memory tests on the program startup, and idling it. At startup, the program uses 100% CPU usage, and 102mb of RAM, but then the form displays, the RAM drops to 20%, and CPU at 0%.Changing a Tab locks the program up for 1 to 2 seconds depending on the tab, and memory fluctuates.Am I doing something wrong here, when a program form has literally over 500 controls of many types, spanning 6 tab pages, or should I be doing something different?

Basically, I follow through the code and I do receive the user list and it is created as needed. But the GUI thread still remains locked up and I don't know why.
I was making a little timer. When the phone is not in standby, my app is working fine. But when i put the phone in standby it stops. When phone is coming out of standby, the timer is going again on the time i put the phone in standby.
I know that other tools keep working, so i there a simple way to do that?

Everything is working fine except for one part. The part where the second foreach loop runs. If I only have one plugin installed it puts 2 entries in the list. The reason is because it has 2 rows and it is adding it twice. I know what the issue is I just am drawing a blank right now.

View 6 RepliesI wrote a simple auto login script to update my IP address on a certain website. Something really strange is happening now though. The first time I run the program, nothing happens. However, the second time I run the program, that instance will work fine. Then I look in task manager, and the first program is still running, using a whopping 50% of my CPU. I believe VB may be blocking off memory or something, as when two instances are running each is using around 25% of CPU. Then after the second one successfully completes, the first starts to use 50% again.

I develop an appliaction which is running a process in the background. This process is "forked" from the application (I'm not using threads). The process may take a few minutes while the 'father' application is waiting to the process output, so I'd like to enhance the application with the following:
a) a "Stop" button (like in IE, FireFox) to stop the process in background
b) A status bar that displays what's going on while the process is running in BG.

The calculation is working but the loading animation isnt moving.MeasurePolygons is the Sub that does the calculations and updates the variables to hold the values of the calculations which works fine. I have some classes right now that I have that I reuse for Client/Server programming. I'm using Thread in these classes though for monitoring for things being written to the network streams and stuff like that. I'm just not sure if I should be using the background worker class instead. I'm also using TCPClient and Listener classes, should I be using sockets directly? I guess it would all depend on the flexibility I would need in a given application's specs.

I am trying to run a database query in a BGW to fill a DataGridView with the data that is returned by the query. The code I came up with works in that it executes the query & fills the DGV but it totally freezes the form & all controls on the form. Successive clicking on the form or any controls causes "Not Responding" to show in the title bar & I have to terminate the program from the IDE. If I run the query in a regular subroutine it works fine. Can somebody please review my code to see where I might be going astray? I've never used a BGW before so maybe I'm doing it all wrong.
