VS 2008 : Client Freezes Up For No Apparent Reason?
Jan 31, 2010
I have created an authentication system in the Server that verifies the user exists and password is valid. Here's the code I use for checking a Connect:
vb.net
Private Sub messageReceived(ByVal sender As ConnectedClient, ByVal message As String) If message <> String.Empty Then Me.Invoke(New WriteLog(AddressOf WriteMessage), String.Format("Message: {0}", message)) Me.Invoke(New WriteLog(AddressOf WriteMessage), String.Empty) Me.Invoke(New WriteLog(AddressOf WriteMessage), String.Empty) 'A message has
[code]....
Basically, I follow through the code and I do receive the user list and it is created as needed. But the GUI thread still remains locked up and I don't know why.
I have a problem where a form is closing when it shouldn't be. I just don't see why this is happening so I hope someone can see the obvious error that I'm missing. The user is on a form called frmPersonalAddress. If he clicks on a button labled "Add Children", he will open a new form, using the .showdialogue method called frmChildren.FrmChildren contains several text fields that may be filled and a single CLOSE button. When closing, the program will examine the fields. If it finds an error, a Messagebox will display with the error and the form should remain open. If there are no errors, the form will close
So I am trying to change the directory where the files are beeing saved. I've made a file where the location is saved. But for some reason, when I have saved the new location and restart the application, the file is is cleared, leaving it empty.
Show Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Is there any way I can find the exact reason a form is closing ? To be more specific , I'd like to find when a form is closing :1) because the user pressed the X button on the upper right corner2) due to code (Me.Close , MyForm.Close etc)I know I can use the FormClosing event and use this code :If e.CloseReason = CloseReason.UserClosing Thenhowever it seems that the CloseReason.UserClosing catches both cases (closed by te X button or by code) . So , is there any way I can find exactly the reason a form is closing ?Back in VB6 , the correspondent UnloadMode variable of the Form_Unload event could be "vbFormCode" which indicated specifically that the form was closed by code
I am using VS2010 and .NET 4. My form has a DataGridView (dgvTest), and a checkbox (CheckBox1). I am selecting 2 or 3 fields from a table, depending on whether the checkbox is checked (which it is initially). My possible SQL statements are "SELECT ID,strForenames, strSurname FROM tblAlumni" and "SELECT strForenames, strSurname FROM tblAlumni".
I have used SQL Profiler to confirm that these are the queries sent to the DB. All seems well when I load the form (I see 3 fields, in the order I expect), and when I uncheck the box (I see 2 fields, in the order I expect). However, when I check it again, the ID field appears THIRD in the columns of the DataGridView, not first! I have found a couple of reports of something similar to this (mis)behaviour on the Net, but folks just seem to find some other way to do the job rather than ask is this a problem with DataGridView that needs fixed.
Imports System.Data.SqlClient Imports System.Windows.Forms Imports System

do your experts agree this is a bug? The "fix" is to wipe the DataGridView between repopulations, but I'm not sure I should have to?
I have an application that uses SendMessage to send a list of numbers one at a time to a query window in the database we use. The problem is that when SendMessage fills the textbox, then clicks "Query" (hWndQuery) my application freezes up until the query is finished running, which sometimes can take up to 20 minutes depending on the query. Any way to force the program to be responsive after it 'clicks' the query button?
Below is my code - I commented where the program freezes (15 lines up from the bottom):Private Sub Query() Dim hWndQQ, hWndTextBox, hWndQuery, i, iResult As Integer Dim sTemp As String sTemp = "" bCancel = False [Code] .......
I'm downloading a file using this y.Computer.Network.DownloadFileplication reezes while the file isd ownloading, I read that I should use threads to fix this problem but I dont really understand how I should do,
Of course, it's nice enough to unfreeze itself when the task is completed. I have must at looked at this code for 2 hours, and still can't find the bug.
Imports System.Threading Public Class Form1 Dim PathAmount As Integer = 0
I have a program that has multiple tabs, with roughly 100 - 400 controls of varying types on each area. The program takes about...4 seconds to load, which I don't think is right.I did a few memory tests on the program startup, and idling it. At startup, the program uses 100% CPU usage, and 102mb of RAM, but then the form displays, the RAM drops to 20%, and CPU at 0%.Changing a Tab locks the program up for 1 to 2 seconds depending on the tab, and memory fluctuates.Am I doing something wrong here, when a program form has literally over 500 controls of many types, spanning 6 tab pages, or should I be doing something different?
the hex convert code seems to work etc but it freezes but it does its job eventually I read that backgroundworkers can be used to fix this issue but I have no idea how to use it for my script
Im using the code from [URL] as a starter, most of the code is the same. the chat system works fine but on the client a added a disconnect button "clientSocket.Close()" and as soon as i click that i get errors, on the client, this is the code...
Private Sub getMessage() For infiniteCounter = 1 To 2
[CODE]...
And this line...
serverStream.Read(inStream, 0, buffSize) gives me "Unable to read data from the transport connection: A blocking operation was interrupted by a call to WSACancelBlockingCall."
Now im talking the server, after the client clicks disconnect or closes by task manager, looses connection, etc the server crashes and gives me.
Is there any way I can get around of the apparent issues of using the basic file saving dialog to at least allow another way to save files from my program? What I am talking about is possibly a way to be able to drag something from the program to somewhere on the PC saving it there. I know of a few possible ways to get this done already but the ones I know of aren't exactly great, I could stick with the basic save file dialog but it's a bit slower than you could likely do with simple drag & drop file saving, while then I have to do my own code so files that are allowed to be named to have the special characters like "?" which aren't allowed in filenames in windows will be replaced with different characters instead.
I was making a little timer. When the phone is not in standby, my app is working fine. But when i put the phone in standby it stops. When phone is coming out of standby, the timer is going again on the time i put the phone in standby.
I know that other tools keep working, so i there a simple way to do that?
Using the following If GeBrowse.DownloadString("URL GOES HERE").Contains("CHECKS FOR TEXT HERE.") Then Something goes here If there is no apparent internet connection, how would i create an error handling Message box or something of the sort?
this is probably easier than I think it is.I would like a client-to-client messenging system without using Winsock if possible. At the moment an IP based connection system would be okay.
how to create a client/server... But I couldn't... I don't want anything fancy. Just want the client to send the server 4 numbers, depending on the user's choice; after that, the server would turn off the pc, restart it, etc. It all depends on the number received. Is there a rather "simple" way to do it? If it's not to much trouble you could use Atheist's example. (Btw I don't understand the code and, yes, I've checked on [URL])
We are creating a Who wants to be a millionaire style game in VB. Our server is pulling information such as questions and answers from a Access Database and sending them to the contestants (Clients). All transfer of information is directly from the server to each client. One of the "Life Lines" we want to use is "Ask a friend", where one client is able to Instant message another client for a short time to get help on the question.
i have been working on a chat program Server side and client side i have most of the features i was asked to put in but then once i got most of the bugs out i noticed something the server admin could send whispers and alerts to single users but then when you try do do it on the client side it wont work so i looked through it all and found my issue the user list on the client is only a list of the names in server hash table so i was wondering how do i send the hashtable and all of its data E.G. user connection information to the client so that it can send commands to individual users like the server side can
vb Public clients As New Hashtable() ' This subroutine checks to see if username already exists in the clients ' Hashtable. If it does, send a REFUSE message, otherwise confirm with a JOIN.
[code]....
i tried to send the hashtable over the same method used to send the user names to the client but it cannot convert the hashtable to a string so that wont work so my question is How do i send the hash table to the user from the server then display the username on the client ??
I have seen in Debugging .net 2.0 Applications the following code [code] Is there any reason to use the #if directive? I mean, from what I understand the method will only be called if the DEBUG is defined, so I don't see a point in having the #if in the method body.
I was asked by an employer to sort a hash table. I always thought that the usage of a hash table was in a way non-sort friendly. Am I wrong in thinking this, and if not can you point me to a good VB.Net(Yes Kill me now, but it's an old system) method of sorting a hash table.
I have inherited some code with a function that looks to Deserialize a Byte array that does not work with even simple arrays eg {1,2,3,4}it error out with "End of Stream encountered before parsing was completed"..Apart from the fact that it should work, I don't see how this does anything useful since all it seems to do is turn a byte array into an object. [code]
I'm having problems with my VS2005 .Net2.0 VB.Net Windows forms application. When I start the application and work with it for a while it somehow disappears from the taskbar. To get the Application button back on the taskbar I use Alt+Tab to switch to the application and voila,.. the taskbar button is back.In my code and form I can't seem to find anything strange.ShowInTaskbar is set to trueFormborderstule = SizableIt is an MDI application that is used for administrative purposes on sql databases.
We have a legacy setup that creates pdf's on the fly based on client info. I can follow everything through where the process gathers the info and everything runs normally, until it gets to the doc.Form.FlattenFormFields then it goes in to limbo. I've captured the base64binary string and it tried to use that to convert to a pdf with no luck also.
I have an application in VB 2008 Express that uses a DataGridView to display rows of information. I have a DataGridViewCheckboxCell on each row for selecting the row so the user can mass delete the selected rows. For some reason, whenever I try to select a row via checkbox it adds another row to the DataGridView, is there anyway to disable this?
i am trying to find the sin (any number *Pi) but for some reason its not working. the result i am getting is the answer of (sin(any number)) * pi here is an example of my
I have been programming for almost a year now, and I still havent found a real reason to use the Panel control. Is there some kind of use for the panel that I dont know of? It must be here for a reason, but I just cant figure out why? Does anyone use this control?
