VS 2008 Chat Server/client - After The Client Clicks Disconnect Or Closes By Task Manager, Looses Connection

Im using the code from [URL] as a starter, most of the code is the same. the chat system works fine but on the client a added a disconnect button "clientSocket.Close()" and as soon as i click that i get errors, on the client, this is the code...

And this line...
serverStream.Read(inStream, 0, buffSize)
gives me "Unable to read data from the transport connection: A blocking operation was interrupted by a call to WSACancelBlockingCall."
Now im talking the server, after the client clicks disconnect or closes by task manager, looses connection, etc the server crashes and gives me.
I am working on a chat client and server, and so far it works well, but when I close the client, the server throws an exception because it continues to try to do processes on the disconnected client. I have tried adding clientSocket.Close() in various places throughout the client and server with no luck. Does someone know how to add the disconnect code to either the server or client with this code?Server:
I am working on a code for a chat client/server and I have it all working, I can connect and chat locally and global. The problem I am having is that when someone just hits the X in the corner to exit it crashes my server as well as the fact that if someone wants to they can make their username the same as someone elses.
I have a small problem with sockets (I'm new to sockets). Below is the code I'm using. The problem is that when the client closes, the server closes aswell. How do I stop it from doing that?
ok i got this from online source the only problem i found with it is it will not disconnect from the server on a regual basis, now i did some mods on it but nutting to change the way it works i am using vb2008 the server side i have no problem with it. here is the code for the client:

Searched quite a bit and am having trouble finding how to have the server catch the client has disconnected. When the server detects the disconmnect it goes bonkers. Would like to Try and Catch ex so I could gracefully handle it.
how to create a client/server... But I couldn't... I don't want anything fancy. Just want the client to send the server 4 numbers, depending on the user's choice; after that, the server would turn off the pc, restart it, etc. It all depends on the number received. Is there a rather "simple" way to do it? If it's not to much trouble you could use Atheist's example. (Btw I don't understand the code and, yes, I've checked on [URL])
We are creating a Who wants to be a millionaire style game in VB. Our server is pulling information such as questions and answers from a Access Database and sending them to the contestants (Clients). All transfer of information is directly from the server to each client. One of the "Life Lines" we want to use is "Ask a friend", where one client is able to Instant message another client for a short time to get help on the question.

Some people say Winsock is the way to go and others say TCP/IP is the way to go. I have little to no experience in either one of them. But how do i go about writing a program with 1 client and server where the client side creates a text file.Once the server sees there is a text file it connects and downloads it to itself or the client pushes the text file to the server.Once on the server i will read the text file and put its info into a sql db.

I am currently working on a messenger client that connects to a server then back to the clients for full chat room support.I have it operational however when you close the client before connecting to server it closes normal, if you close the client after you have connected to the server then the client dissapears but it is still running in processes. i have been working on a chat program Server side and client side i have most of the features i was asked to put in but then once i got most of the bugs out i noticed something the server admin could send whispers and alerts to single users but then when you try do do it on the client side it wont work so i looked through it all and found my issue the user list on the client is only a list of the names in server hash table so i was wondering how do i send the hashtable and all of its data E.G. user connection information to the client so that it can send commands to individual users like the server side can

i tried to send the hashtable over the same method used to send the user names to the client but it cannot convert the hashtable to a string so that wont work so my question is How do i send the hash table to the user from the server then display the username on the client ??
Im working on this one application/chatter. What it does, theres a server, and lots of clients. Client sends data to server, server process's it, and the client receives the data (unless its a command, like /process username). Heres my problem. My client has a login feature, like yahoo. Client sends username/password to server. Server goes through list of usernames. Then sends it to client, wether it matches. But my client doesn't receive the data. Can anybody fix this, with my client code provided? Let me know if you need server code, and the extra script files/vb files. [Code]
