VS 2008 : Insert And Remove Specific Characters From A Cell?

I have a form with four checkboxs and a textbox for an id number.I also have two tables in a database. The first has a column for the users Id, Name, and a column called Points.The second has a column for Id and one called Letters.What i want to do is, after the user enters the id number, and the user clicks checkboxA it should add a certain number, lets say 5, to the "points" cell for that id#(in the first database), and it should put the letter "a" in the "letters" column (of the second database) for that id number. Also, if a user deselects a checkbox it should remove the "a" from letters and subtract 5 from points.Also there will be different letters in the "letters" cell, so i cant just clear it, but i have to remove the specific letter.

I am having problem setting focus on specific cell in my Datagridview1 . On Form1 when clicking on cell 3 in any row, I am callig a Dialog1. However, when done working with it, and closing the Dialog1, the focus returns to cell 3 in my Datagridview1 . I like to set the focus on the next cell(4) making it the current cell.
I have tryed :
DataGridView1.SelectionMode = DataGridViewSelectionMode.CellSelect
DataGridView1.CurrentCell = DataGridView1.Item(4, e.RowIndex)
DataGridView1.CurrentCell = DataGridView1.CurrentRow.Cells(4)
And few other things, I am always getting this exception: Operation is not valid because it results in a reentrant call to the SetCurrentCellAddressCore function.

In the line below i need to remove the last two characters from a string.
51385_poster2000.jpg_1
53279_poster2000.jpg_2
56049_poster2000.jpg_3
The last charaters can range from 1 to 100 This is the code that i am using to remove unwanted characters which is working how i want it to do but when i pass each file to OrigName to get the original name
i am getting the above and i can not see where the '_1' are getting added. I don't want to mess too much with it incase it stops working the way i need it too. The lines in bold are the ones that write the results to a .tmp text, see below.

How do you remove unwanted characters from filenames?To get my program to run without causing errors it needs to remove characters from filenames like spaces, "." and "_".What it needs to do is to scan a folder which old the files and remove any unwanted characters from them.

I know this will be easy, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. How do you SET the current row in a gridview? I find tons of ways to get data from it, but I what to set a current row or cell programatically. I'm using VB 2008 express. I also find lots of promising properties like Selected... but these are all read only and i can't set them.

how could I get the text of a specific cell in a DataGridView control ? If it matters , in my case , all the cells contain strings or nothing . For example , in order to get the text from the cell on row 2 and column 3 , what code do I have to use ? I have tried the Value property but seems that's not it . I've found some examples on the web ,but they were all for C# ... I guess , though , it has to be easy .

Now want i want .Net to do is filter the the content in a textbox

And the Extra "[quote]" from the end line
As you can see in the example the content has two "Quotes" so i jest want to remove only one from the first line and last line of the content
And note "[quote=randombla13]" the length after the = is Unknown it maybe of 6 characters or less or more

For each character of this string I want a new character out of the string and then remove the character from the list of characters that still maybe used for other characters. It may not get the same character, you could basically just call this encryption, but it's not what I am making. I don't want to waste my time doing this one hour while VB can do this for me in <1 second.

I am retrieving string values from a table and then encode each term to make a httpwebrequest to an api. It works fine and the terms allow for foreign characters like japanese/arabic/chinese etc and these are inserted fine. The problem occurs when some of these terms contain weird characters and that is when the request is bad. The only reason it is bad xml and the template I follow gets invalid are when these characters are present. I use the
system.securityelement.escape
And also
httputility.htmlencode
As part of my cleanup. One of the weird characters ends up appearing as a space but it is not since the trim(term) does not work and when I look at the xml in visual studio it looks like an ' &' with arrow pointing up attached to it. It does not appear after I pasted it here.It appears as a line feed or carriage return and I have tried to remove that too. Anyway is there some way I can ensure that these sort of characters are removed and if I were to use the binary values like <32 invalid, will foreign characters then get excluded.

I'm currently stuck on something I need to have done for my application. I have a listbox where I have a lot of urls in the following format: [URL] With the quotes on it. Now I want only these links to remain in the listbox and to remove the quotes and rl around it. I tried using regex but it didn't worked out for me.

I would like to know how to count specific characters for a proper split value so I can seperate the name of the file from the rest of this address:
C:\Program Files\Folder\Folder\File.file
The reason is so I can combine it with other addresses taken in my code to cuase a proper copy command using the File.Copy with import IO The character I am trying to count is: \ This is so when I command the split, I can choose the split number (starts at 0) so if there are 4 of the "\" characters, then I would subtract one from this number, and use it as the Split index so I can capture the split data at: File.file

I made a batch script using VB.NET which deletes shortcut on my desktop. The problem is that shortcut title contains unicode characters so batch doesn't work. However if I remove that unicode character from the shortcut and batch script it does delete the shortcut. How can I make it delete the shortcut w/o removing that unicode character?
